I wanted a quarterback, not because I believed Eli was done, but because of the importance of that position going forward.
Wanting a quarterback even as a Penn State fan, I was disappointed in the Giants pick.
I rationalized by accepting the premise that the quarterbacks coming out, just weren't worth that value, although Mayfield was pretty impressive last night.
I also believed the Giants wouldn't pass on a quarterback out of loyalty to Eli, and that maybe they believed Webb was just as good a prospect.
Last night being his first extended action, I don t think it s an overreaction for fans to watch and think, "What the hell?"
Regardless of what shills like Paul Dottino say, you need more than a great attitude and work ethic to be an NFL quarterback.
Hopefully it was first game jitters. But the speed of a game is much different than practice, and last night he looked overwhelmed.
And yes, I m one of those guys that will be upset, if Darnold flashes tonight like Mayfield did.
And if you re honest it will bother some of you too.

When a fan expresses a concern it s not right or wrong, it just is. I m not creating a narrative, just stating I was disappointed in Webbs performance last night and if Darnold plays well it will increase the sting
Barkley looked legit. I just want an excellent player at #2 regardless oft he position. I don't get the hand wringing watching the other QB's play.
I wanted a quarterback over even a great running back, because of the Simms and Eli eras in contrast to in between their eras.
I think they will have made a colossal mistake if Darnold is the next Simms or Eli, if they themselves are in quarterback hell.
If Darnold is the next Sanchez, quarterback hell will still stink, but at least for me easier to accept.
Guess I m more of a what if guy than you. Not a good quality, but it s who I am
In any event hope the Giants made the correct move. I would take no satisfaction in being correct on thinking quarterback was the way to go
And that just sounds ridiculous. One poster actually said that if both players become HoF guys, Gettleman's legacy will be one where he was "schooled".
That's how fucked up some of the takes are.
Basically how players perform is out of our control, as is what is going to happen 2-3 years down the line, so worrying about how a guy not on my team will look in an opening preseason game just seems pointless.
You know who actually impressed me the most last night? Barkley. Everyone knew he was getting the first touch and he took it 40 yards.
Not sure how Darnold plays would take away from that, but I'm never ceased to be amazed by what narratives people create.
The othdr thing is the laser like focus on how Webb looks. Again who cares? They have 2 young QBs. As long as one looks good and promising we are good. It doesn't matter which one that turns out to be.
Hopefully he can get some Xanax or whatever and relax; have fun. Gotta get past those yips.

This take is probably just as silly as those that put too much emphasis on Webb's bad game.
I guess we can use all 6 draft picks next year on QBs and it will help the odds on finding our next guy.
you know, so that way we are good...

Yeah, that's who I want as my QB to replace Eli who played his best in the big games, a QB who gets the "jitters" when he plays a Wk 1 pre-season game against a team that went 0-16 the year before.
The pressure must have been unbearable.
Simms was from a small school in 1979. But Simms was poised and confident his rookie year (he became the starter his rookie year around game 5 or so). Simms never looked the way Webb looked last night - completely lost (presumably because he was seeing defensive looks he never saw before).
While the Giants are improving Lauletta's arm strength, maybe they can also coach him to run faster and grow taller!
Perhaps Lauletta overcomes his arm strength limitation, but expecting him to somehow improve it significantly just doesn't make sense.
It's not something you coach. He is what he is.

If Lauletta can improve his arm strength a bit then the Giants might actually have something here.

That’s simply not true, a 22 year old can definitely improve his arm strength. Significantly? Probably not. Noticeably? Yes, along with improving his mechanics.
Man must you be disappointed!

You claim that a QB CAN improve his arm strength and then you admit that he really can't when you say "Significantly? Probably not."
The fact that Lauletta can't improve "significantly" improve his arm strength was the whole point of my post. What does it matter if he makes insignificant improvements in arm strength?
Well, you certainly didn't get the result you wanted, but at least you came up with a witty (albeit very strange) nickname!
Both factors involve many parts of the body, muscle memory, footwork, and years of repetition.
Both guys have all the goods to be successful NFL QBs -- except throwing the ball well enough. And until that's not the primary function of a QB I don't see either guy winning in the NFL.
The Giants can have Bridgewater right now if they wanted. He's on the trade block. It's up to us and no be unreasonable in asking for a return.

Why are you still here?
Sorry wrong thread.
