He was so wild with his throws last night I couldn't believe it. Too amped up? Maybe. But he never settled down.I had high hopes for him but this was discerning.Hoping it's just this one game.
Agree although against lower tier guys, looked better. Quite frankly there is really no excuse for what we saw from Webb given his time in our system. I will keep saying it, he was bouncing around in college for a reason.
While Webb was "amped" up, he is supposed to be a professional football player. He needs to stop talking about how hard he works and EXECUTE. His performance was so bad, the Giants have to think about getting a veteran backup for Eli.
And will certainly give him a chance to redeem himself.
I just wanted to point out that what we have seen and heard about his play has been pretty spot on to what our resident scout said and his draft profile says.
but it's the first pre-season game. The over reaction from many of you must be a result of 8 months without football. Let's see how he responds next week.
so I think we should write him off forever and shit on his grave.
Or just call a bad night a bad night and deal with it. If we're gonna make threads everytime he posts a video of how hard he's working off the field, we can also point out where he was dismal.
I have watched him plenty at Cal, and I think most scouting reports Â
read pretty similarly, that he's got a strong arm, but accuracy was a question mark.
I think what seems to happen every year in training camp, some guys are great practice players, Webb, and some are gamers, hopefully Kyle Lauletta. Admittedly, Lauletta didn't play against the first team defense, but neither did Webb.

That's the thing Shula even said he has been eratic in practices.
Q: What do you think of Davis Webb’s camp?
A: Davis has done a nice job, we’ve talked about him in our staff meetings. He’s like a lot of guys, striving for consistency. When you watch practice, you see big plays by him or on the other side you see interceptions and it’s like one extreme or the other, but there’s a lot of things that he’s done since day one of the OTAs where he’s working and has gotten the negative plays minimized. He’s still got some work to do there but he’s more consistent in making sound decisions.
A couple passes were dropped, Adams dropped what would have been 15 yards and a first down. And one of the receivers Raymond? looked like he lost one in the lights that would have been a 35-40 yard TD. Neither were great throws but both should have been caught.

That said, I was very disappointed.
Raymond, at first glance looked like he made a business decision at fist. Didn't want to get crushed by the safety. After watching the replay it looked like he just lost the ball. He definitely should have been able to locate that one. He was wide open.

AGreed on this, the WRs did him no favors. That Raymond pass looked like a TD.
Webb looked bad, but he should have looked better.
This is exactly what I was thinking while watching Webb, reminds me Brock Osweiler. Which is a terrible thought considering I always believed Osweiler never should have been starting in the NFL.
I know, I know, it’s only his first preseason game but still a scary comparison. Strong arm or not, we will be drafting another QB next year if he doesn’t improve dramatically in these next few games. You can’t really teach accuracy.
Why wasn't Mayfield too "amped up" to play well? Could it be because Mayfield is a super-confident QB who believes he can succeed at any level?

Mayfield last played in a football game in Jan - he has not been sitting on the bench for an entire year
