Eli Manning and play action

McNally's_Nuts : 8/10/2018 9:15 am
In the handful plays he was in I was THRILLED at the fact that Eli was UNDER CENTER for the large majority of the plays.

It really feels like we stopped doing that when Gilbride was fired/resigned back in 2013. Of course that is hyperbole but after 2 full seasons of Big Mac's Aaron Rodges only offense....this feels like a breath of fresh air.

It was nice to see that play in the Browns side of the 50 where the PA sucked up the linebackers and Ellison didn't bother to turn around, would have been a nice 15-18 yard gain.

Might seem silly to see a positive in that play, but that was it.
It's one of his strongest attributes, I agree.

You knew it..
FatMan in Charlotte : 8/10/2018 9:20 am : link
was preseason when Eli was laughing with Ellison about that instead of reaming him.

I thought Eli made some very crisp throws and good decisions. He was sharp to the sideline on two passes. The OL pass pro was shaky though. Way too much pressure from the front 4 D.
I think you are talking about 2 different things.
robbieballs2003 : 8/10/2018 9:25 am : link
He was mostly in the shotgun with McAdoo but under McAdoo we still ran a lot of playaction believe it or not.

Yes, but dont you think playaction is better when the QB is under center? easier to hide the ball and the RB is running downhill.

that playaction out of the shotgun fooled no one

I guess I do not remember much of Mac's playaction under center. I remember alot of it being in the shotgun and almost 90 percent of it not being efficient.
Britt..

LOL.

Technically they had a debate whether it was hospital ball or medicine ball:)

We should ask Les in TO, NYSports1 and the other doofus about that, they should know. They've been talking about it for months on end.

Hey, BBI is an inclusive place, right?

There are morons of all orientations and walks of life, here.
Yes even I must agree that Eli look really sharp like he was in 2011

Yes, I do. But playaction is playaction no matter where the QB starts hence starting a thread about playaction but then talking about Eli being under center. Those are 2 different things.

I never said playaction from under center. Again, playaction is playaction regardless of where the QB is lined up.

I told people before the season that excuses are over
NYSports1 : 8/10/2018 9:56 am : link
Eric even said it in his game preview. I saw the usual suspects last night already making excuses like it was pre season and Eli always sucks in pre season and it was the receivers fault

Eli to me loss the give him the benefit of the doubt 3 years ago. This is a results based business and his contract is super high to accept it and make excuses. He is a 2 time SB champ and that will never be taken away. But he cant live off that at least not to me and many giants fans.

The excuses are already starting from many here

The oline is terrible

Receivers stink

No OBJ

And if the best thing you can say about Manning last night is how his PA motion was then we have a problem

Awww... a guy who judges whats going to happen on 2 drives. One of which was a scoring drive. Those 3 incompletions which included a drop, a throw away, and Ellison not looking for the ball - is surely enough for your expertise to repeat the same thing for the millionth time.

Such a bore.
People are..
FatMan in Charlotte : 8/10/2018 9:59 am : link
making excuses??

Eli had two drives and didn't even look bad!

What are we supposed to be excusing? By the way, you are the fucking moron who said Barkley had 1 "nice" run and all the others were shitty.

And you are actually saying others are making excuses?

One-topic troll.

I wonder if he even enjoys watching the Giants. I mean we have holes and areas to get better. But we ran the ball and stopped the run and scored on a drive.

But Baker Mayfield was beating our 7th, 8th, and 9th string corners - so obviously its time to panic!!!!!! NO MORE EXCUSES!!!!!!
Data on the last three years of playaction.

Scroll down.

Yes, I believe playaction is more effective in a better offense. Playaction can be very effective out of the gun if teams are worried about the run, you have threats in the pass game, you run a variety of routes, you run multiple formations, etc. There were many reasons why our offense sucked over the last couple of years.

been thrown to the target on the left that was wide open running down the seam to endzone (Engram maybe?).

Ellison was wide open. Come on now. It would have been good for 15-20 yards if he was looking.

Well you can’t nitpick. Maybe Ellison was initial read or maybe he saw him first. I think we should be happy the play actually worked and we had guys open!!!

But Ellison has to look for the ball. My god he was WIDE open.
Yes that's quite a nitpick

Yes it’s the exact definition of a nitpick. Your complaining that Eli missed an open receiver by throwing it an open receiver. Lol.

Ellison was runing free on the one play-action that Eli

don't forget, my personal favourite Eli excuse that was trotted out this week in respect of the 2006 wild card game shutout debacle against Carolina, "we had street guys playing at linebacker"!

instead of Eli taking responsibility for ensuring the offense sustained drives, keeping the injury-depleted defense rested and putting points on the board, he turned the ball over 4 times, putting even more pressure on the already disadvantaged defense. but even though Eli admitted he played like crap after the game, to the Eli apologists, it's not his fault because our defense stunk so he didn't get as many possessions as he would if they were at full strength.

Do you really have to be told the stats from that game again? That the Panthers had the ball for nearly 50 minutes (mainly because we couldn't stop them in the middle) and the had more rushing attempts than we had total plays??

We had 31 total plays!

You call people "fanboys", yet can't even comprehend what the fuck happened in a playoff game.

I won't even ask again why you were pointing that game out, mainly because you don't really seem to fucking understand much.

as to Eli and play action last night?

And certainly not sure why his 4 turnovers in that game has anything to do with the Panthers running all over our patchwork defense that day.

Eli under center
Bluesbreaker : 8/11/2018 2:38 pm : link
I think allows Eli's smarts to come into play more and using
audibles knowing he has a legit HR hitter in Barkley .
Once Eli gets this offense down and with the good play of
the O-line being able to run the ball and avoid the constant 3rd and longs .
