The good, the bad, and the ugly

Reale01 : 8/10/2018 10:11 am
Good
Saquon's run
Kicker was 2 for 2
Wheeler looked good
OL was not horrible
Very few penalties
Reserve RBs
No turnovers
Stopped the run
Tackling was good
Pressured the passer
Collins looked good
The reserve DBs did better than expected
The reserve OL did better than expected

Bad
Stewart was not into it
Still dropping passes
Still cannot run a screen
Still cannot cover TE
Kickoff coverage
Kickoff returns
Poor contain on pass rush
Starters had trouble with back shoulder passes
DBs do not locate the ball as well as you would want

The Ugly
Webb

Overall grade: C-
when
Eric from BBI : Admin : 8/10/2018 10:15 am : link
a QB is so dysfunctional as Webb was last night, it really affects everyone else around him.
Add this to bad

Saquon’s other four runs

Add this to good- Lauletta gives us hope we have our Eli replacement
Shaky QB play
Jimmy Googs : 8/10/2018 10:19 am : link
dropped passes, cannot complete a simple screen, poor special teams and continued nonsense against the opposing Tight Ends.

like sands thru the hourglass....
Eric: good reminder to all who panic about everything
Ivan15 : 8/10/2018 10:23 am : link
Remember too that the passing offense is still built around OBJ
Wow
bigbb : 8/10/2018 10:35 am : link
You want to put saquon other 4 runs in the bad.. Im speechless
Its the first game with a new coach, I wouldn't take too much of it

Good
Saquon!
Bad
Secondary finding balls in the air
Ugly
Webb
Saquon
Pete44 : 8/10/2018 10:52 am : link
Saquon can be pro-bowler for the next 5 seasons, but if any of the 1st round QBs picked after Barkley end up being studs, the Front Office failed the franchise terribly.

The performance of Webb only enforced that theory that many of us felt around the draft.

Barkley only had four runs. Even on giants.com they show a run of his but it's stewarts carry they credited to him

That is too funny. I guess 26 could look like 28.

I tend to agree with this line of thinking, although the only potential stud I think NYG passed up was Rosen. We’ll never know if Mayfield would have been selected if available at #2
Lauletta

Threw with nice touch and accuracy... Overall first preseason game was not bad..... A lot of positives....

IMO that's dumb and short-sighted because if that does come to pass and we still, as we likely will, have OBJ on the team, then you've just pissed on 5 playoff appearances as if such things have no meaning. But yeah, we missed out on 2 years of a decent QB.

Chris in San Diego : 8/10/2018 11:34 am : link
no turnovers and very few penalties. Now just play on both sides of the ball and find an identity. That's a solid start when you are coming from 3 and 13.
Giants ran well last night...
M.S. : 8/10/2018 11:35 am : link

...and stoned the run last night.

How many times have we been able to say that over the last 5 seasons?

And I love Eli back under the Center. What a novel idea... force the defense to guess whether a run or a pass is coming.
Depth WRs
mittenedman : 8/10/2018 11:42 am : link
Russell Sheppard can play. The other guys - Hunter Sharp and Khalif Raymond - aren't NFL football players.
Camp is funny
ZogZerg : 8/10/2018 11:58 am : link
After 2+ weeks of camp Webb was the clear #2 an Lauletta had a noodle arm.
After a few quarters in first preseason game Webb is garbage and KL looks promissing

LOL
Saquon had 3 other carries that went for 4 yards
BestFeature : 8/10/2018 12:07 pm : link
Every fucking RB in the history of time has had 3 carries that went for 4 yards. This isn't a 20 carries for 20 yards game where I'm telling people everyone has a bad game. It was 3 fucking carries. And people are nitpicking this. Did he have to bust out a 40 yarder on every carry? It's fucking preposterous. "Add the other 4 (really 3) carries". Get the fuck out of here.

It'll be a long season if he gets scrutinized every time he has a 3 yard run. Ironically that's what he's been criticized for not being able to do.

Barry Sanders lead the league in tackles behind the LOS
I don't know what the hell was with Webb last night.
Dave on the UWS : 8/10/2018 1:38 pm : link
but that was NOT the guy I watched last Thursday. He was so bad Shurmur had to have thought "what the hell is going on here". He'll get more chances this preseason but he better get it together quick.

To me its like he never adjusted in his head to game speed, which is faster than practice. I was very disappointed.
Maybe Mac should have started Webb,
Doomster : 8/10/2018 2:54 pm : link
those last three games.....

Of course that means we would not have SB....

This is about the stupidest post I’ve seen on here in along time and that’s saying something
Saquon had a total of 4 runs, not 5, and I thought all looked fine...
Knee of Theismann : 8/10/2018 5:42 pm : link
-39 yards right out of the gate, showed a little bit of everything on that run, awesome.

-Ran a sweep and had literally nowhere to go, but once he saw that he put his head down and tried to push upfield making sure it was only a loss of 2

-Ran off-tackle and Ward did a nice job of getting in a position to make the play at the LOS. Barkley bounced it outside and Ward followed, but Barkley still got 3 yards. Carl Banks criticized him for trying to bounce it outside saying he wasn't going to able to do that in the NFL the way he did in college, but honestly to me it looked like if he didn't bounce it outside and pick up 3 yards he would have been stopped there for no gain or maybe 1 yard. I disagreed with Banks' criticism.

- Ran up the middle and picked up 3-4 yards, looked like he did a decent job taking what the defense gave him without getting too fancy.

Overall I thought he showed great instincts and awareness, as well as the explosiveness on the first run. I was at first a little worried he would try to do too much and end up losing yardage on plays trying to make too many moves, but really I didn't see that at all. I don't agree with what some people have said about him trying to bounce things outside when he shouldn't. I actually saw the opposite, especially with him putting his head down on that one sweep and losing only 2 yards instead of stringing it out even further and losing 4-5 yards.

While it seems rare, it's always nice to come across a post made from someone with logic and intelligence, instead of the ridiculous hyperbole most seem to post with on this site. Thank you!
