I think people are getting carried away. He was playing against second and third stringers. I was more impressed with Taylor.
He finally has weapons to throw to. The Bills are still looking for WR options.
He had Sammy Watkins, Charles Clay and Robert Woods in Buffalo. He is who he is.
Sammy Watkins was hurt practically the entire time he was there. Robert Woods? Yeah they are setting the world on fire. Laundry is legit.
Watkins played in 37 out of the 48 games in Buffalo. Woods had his career year when he went to Goff. McCoy was the foundation of that offense and Tyrod was the benefactor. He isn't a franchise guy at this stage and all he's doing is holding the chair for when Baker moves in. He'll go somewhere, put up a nice QB rating while people marvel and he still goes 8-8 and goes for 190 yards per game passing. That's been his career. It won't change.
But our 3rd and 4th string corners were out and he was going up against guys who will be cut. So if I were a browns fans I’d be stoked but cautiously optimistic.
The stage isn’t big for him whatsoever tho.
The one thing I don’t like is he extends almost every play. That’s going to cause more hits and that’s never good.
Yes, but he was also playing with a backup OL. There was a lot of pressure on him, but he was so elusive that he just danced around those guys. It's not like he was playing with a great group of WR's either.
I really liked Callaway. But his off field actions were too troubling
on the field by far. Were never intrerersted in him as i recall, so no harm done if he turns out to be the top QB in the 18 draft. Have to congratulate Cleveland on the pick. Looks like they got this one right.
is going to stick in the league for a very long time. Mayfields td to Callaway was an absolute thing of beauty. I really liked his presence and finding his 2nd and third options.
Russel Wilson or Drew Brees. He proved it on the field these past years but many did not believe the results and evidence. All about his size and athleticism i guess.

agree with Greg, him being good in Cleveland is good for us. I wanted Mayfield just not at 2.
You misunderstand me. I'm glad he went #1 overall because if we had picked a goddamned running back over the QB I expect him to be, I would have been furious for a very long time.
No I understood. I just added that although I wanted him, I wouldn’t have at 2.
We only wished our 2nd string QB looked as good as him against Â

It's not only that we played CB's, we played them pretty much constantly in man from what I could see, which makes sense if you want to see what they can do.

sorry meant to say we played 5th, 6th and 7th string CB's
Always have to be careful in pre season. Bryce Petty is a pre season Hall of Famer. Nathan Peterman looked incredible yesterday. Brandon Weeden looked great.
Callaway pretty much made Mayfield look better than he was.
Overall, decent performance. About average. He made some pretty bad throws as well. 11/20 is not exactly wowing anybody
Tough for me to project exactly what he'll be, but it won't be Brees. But he is gutsy.
thought Taylor looked better. I saw better things from Baker personally.
Taylor's sample size was much smaller, but he was close to flawless. His already impressive stat line would have been even better if a perfect 30 yard completion weren't undone by penalty.

I think thats a dead ball penalty. I believe the play counted towards his stat line.

Higgins wasn't bad either. Seemed to catch a bunch of balls from both Qbs

Oh yeah, you're probably right. I was wondering where the hell he came up with the additional 65-ish yards beyond the Njoku throw!
Weak secondary and lack of pass rush. He had plenty of time and protection for any QB to be successful. I want to see him against a actual good defense before I a make a judgment. I will say this though I thought he would be the best Qb in his class, just because of his amazing accuracy..
...in Oklahoma: one cool, calm, deadly gun slinger. When things get crazy in the pocket, that's when this guy's blood pressure goes to zero-over-zero. He's a playmaker and I'm sure glad he ain't in our division!
You just can't teach what this guy does on the field. He's in TOTAL control.
I imagine we'll see him starting this seasons at some point. The leash on Taylor will likely be very short, and though it's certainly possibly Mayfield puts in a poor performance or too that slow his momentum, I have a feeling the good will outweigh the bad.
a bit more compact but probably a better arm than either Tony Romo or Drew Brees and seems accurate on the move. That plus his temperament will make take him a long way in the NFL.
I thought his personality would be an awful match with NYC.
He’s probably in the right place.
This line of thinking is as pathetic as you cant get good marketing in any other place but LA and NY....
If Baker was on the Giants instead of Barkley and last night happened in reverse the BBI forum would be imploding with fans claiming we found the new future.
Agree, the "not in NYC" for a player is utter bullshit.

Lol, sometimes I just can't understand what people see. How did Callaway make Mayfield look better than he was?? Also, its different than having good stats. If it was only about stats, then I'd agree, Tyrod Taylor was better. However, I saw things from Baker Mayfield that showed me it will transalte to regular season games. Unlike what someone else above said, Mayfield did have a rush to escape and multiple times he was able to step up in the pocket and into space while keeping his eyes down the field.
The Browns appear to have a nice problem at QB, finally. I don't see a point in getting Mayfield out there ASAP.
Taylor looked, Baker looked better. Both are new to the system and learning on the job, Baker is the future at QB for the Browns. If he keeps playing like last night, he should be the starter.
RE: RE: Tyrod Taylor was 5/5 for 100 yards and a TD Â

after watching him, it's pretty clear how he beat out Webb....
Mahomes beat out Webb, Webb beat out Mayfield.
Webb NEVER beat out Mayfield EVER. Mayfield beat out webb to start their freshman seasons.
Yeah the succession plan went Webb, got beat out by Baker, Baker got hurt and Mahomes took over, and Baker transferred to Oklahoma, because Mahomes wasn't going to be dethroned.

You were right. I was wrong:
Quote:
After being affected by injury and losing the starting job to fellow true freshman Davis Webb, Mayfield finished the season with 2,315 yards on 218-of-340 completions with 12 touchdowns and 9 interceptions.
Davis got beat out by Mahomes in an open competition the next season.
Love Baker, thought he played great. Hopefully he can stay healthy behind that O-line. As hard as it is to say something nice about the Cowboys, they did a great job investing in their O-line and it paid off. Made it possible for Dak and Zeke to come in as rookies and perform like elite vets.
that loyal fan base deserves someone and something to root for. We all know that pre season is just a meaningless scrimmage but Browns fans have reason to hope.
