Now it's Didi's turn to bat cleanup. Hicks back in the leadoff spot. Bird getting another night off against the lefty. Now Gardy is in the 7 hole, and Miggy is in the 5 hole.
I feel like Boone just puts the names in a hat and puts the lineup together that way. But hey, if it works, it works.
Probably won't be on to post much, but after 4 in a row I'd feel irresponsible not at least getting the thread up.
Let's make it 5!
How is Voit playing over a really hot Walker? You know the guy who hit TWO homers last night? I don't want to hear any of Boone's rest guys bullshit anymore.
We're at the point in the season where they should've been rested in the months leading up to the home stretch and now it's time to ride the hot guys as long as possible.
I can see sitting Bird as he's slumping really bad but there's no reason Walker shouldn't be playing. In fact he shouldn't even have had to look at the lineup card to see if he was. It should be a no brainier. Either at 1st for Bird or Stanton in RF with Walker at DH.
The Yanks can't be sitting hot guys in favor of having both Voit and Robinson starting.
Ok, rant over and apologies for seemingly posting this every night but Boone has me irked and this one tonight with Walker is one I can't accept or figure out.

Makes me a little nauseated

Signed.i am over Boone in general.
You have Neil Walker swinging a hot bat right now - he can play 1B and is a switch hitter. Why not have him play over Voit? Voit sucks. I get that Walker isn't hitting as well from the right side of the plate, but still... it's Luke Voit.
Funny - when Walker wasn't producing most of us didn't understand why he was constantly getting PT over some potentially better options. Now that he is, he gets an inexplicable day off.
Oh well!

Inexplicable is a good word for it. I just saw Boone on the pre game addressing sitting Walker tonight saying he imagines Walker's not happy about it and expected to play.
He then rambled his usual nonsense about resting guys and a stretch of games in a row blah, blah fucking blah.
What I don't get is plans change, but change them when their play dictates it. Walker's play says he doesn't need a rest, in fact it says the opposite to me. It says he's locked in, comfortable, and in a zone. Something that shouldn't be messed with IMO. Just ride him til he shows he needs a day off.
I'm not going to compare him to Cora as a mananger overall but in a similar instance Cora played Pearce against a tough righty vs the Yanks the night after he hit three homers. He had planned to sit him and play the lefty Moreland but rode the hot bat of Pearce and it paid off early with another big homer.

I usually don't quibble over lineup stuff that much but there just seems to be no rhyme or reason behind Boone's construction. I am on record really liking Hicks in the leadoff spot - but other than that, most of this lineup makes little sense to me.

Yuo - I think Curry actually touched on that before re: Cora/Pearce - and made some pretty good points in general on the pregame on this.
Hate to say it, but Alex Cora looks like an excellent manager.
Hard to say Boone has been "bad" given where the team is at right now. That, and it's only been about 3/4 of one season, so the sample size is sort of small. Definitely a lot of head scratching decisions lineup-wise, though.
Lol. It's funny because it's true.
It's like he played him so much because he needed to get him going with regular reps, but now that he is going it's time to sit him. Brilliant move to cool him off by sitting him instead of riding him when he's hot.
The second Voit comes up in the lineup against a RHP, Walker will hit.
You could say that you try to ride the hot bat, but maybe you sit him so he doesn't put himself back into a slump after hitting from the right side of the plate.
Voit probably gets 2AB's tonight and then is out. It's not a no brainer to play Voit but I think some of you need to look at how horrible Walker has been against LHP.
Maybe he has been but he still hit one right handed last night and is pretty locked in.
I don't know about you but regardless of what he's done in the past vs lefties, I'd still take him every day over Voit. A guy who I don't believe should even be in the major leagues.
I am not going to go crazy about it considering how bad Walker has been this year against LHP.
Walker will play at some point tonight
Boone has done enough head scratching things this year to go crazy about. lineup construction has been odd at times but I'm not sure how much of that is on him or how much is on cashman.
I don't believe that for a minute.

Yeah those are good points Mook.
I guess it wouldn't bug me as much if Walker wasn't hot right now, even if it's been mostly as a lefty bat. I just have more confidence in Walker with him being locked in now, than I do in Voit.
If they had a good alternative I'd understand and accept it, but Voit?
I'm an optimist and think maybe him being locked in will help him batting from the right side. It seemed like maybe it was starting to last night with the HR.
Well he shouldn't be on the roster anyways, but if he is and he doesn't start tonight then he's never going to play.
Cashman traded for him, he must see something we don't. I doubt Boone was banging down Cashmans door to trade for Luke Voit.

don't believe that Boone has total control over lineup construction. Cashman likely has a say in it as well.
I don't believe that for a minute.
You don't believe what for a minute? Cashman clearly wanted someone he could control a bit as manager. He wanted things to be even more analytics based than they were.
I have no idea how much Cashman is influencing the lineup, but I would be absolutely shocked if he had no say in the daily lineup

Agreed it's not a really big deal but it's something Boone has done several times before to guys with hot bats. This is just the latest one, and one I don't see the upside to, given the alternative.
Boone's bullpen management is where I think he has done some really weird things.

I don't believe Cashman says anything about the lineup, and if he did it would be very rare. Cashman is not the manager. I wouldn't be shocked if he asked Boone to play somebody for a specific reason or ask to see somebody for evaluation. But I don't think he tells Boone who plays.
If he did as much as you imply, you don't think the players would know? How long would it take for that to get out anonymously? Mike Axisa would have written about it by now.
You really think Cashman has zero say into the daily lineup? I didn't say that Cashman is writing out the lineup card himself. But I absolutely think he helps with it.
He hired a guy who has zero managing experience after firing a guy who got them 1 game away from the world series with a very young team. You don't actually think Cashman was going to hand Boone the keys to a rollys royce while he still only has his learners permit, do you?
Aaron Boone had as much managing experience before this year as you did. I would be shocked if Cashman didn't help write out the lineup card each day.
Girardi got fired because Cashman didn't see eye to eye with him. You think he's firing Girardi and then giving 100% control to someone else?
That may be a little strong, but there is no fricking way Cashman handed him the keys and gave him 100% control.
A trend we've been seeing too much of lately. It's like they forgot about that without Judge in there working counts and showing them how it's done.
Plenty of time left to put up some runs tonight but it would be nice to see them working pitchers again.

Yes, I do not think Cashman tells Boone how to make up the card. Do I think Boone might discuss stuff with Cash? Yes I do. But you are implying and arguing Cash tells Boone what the lineup is, often. I think Cash probably likes to discuss the use of the metrics with Boone.
Yeah, I know Cash and Girardi didn't see eye to eye. Getting rid of Girardi was dubious at best. I think he wanted more of the new metrics used and Girardi would not use it as much as Cashman wanted.
Rest him then if he needed it. No reason IMO a half day off in one of these two wouldn't be enough rest, while also taking advantage of his hot bat in both games.
He could've DH'd one and played 1st in the other. Neither would be all that strenuous on him IMO. It's not like he's a CF chasing balls all over the OF.
More bummed with how they're playing and hoping they wake up. So far another lifeless game from them.
Man you called it earlier. Gardy hits the HR and then they make the next two outs on two friggin pitches to end the inning!
Can someone take a pitch there and see if he was rattled even a little by the HR?
He's rested!
Lol, couldn't resist.
One pitch too late, and not sure why he came out and started this inning. Sure looked to me like he had nothing and was done after the last inning.
The Warren trade continues to really bother me as well as it was clearly motivated by money. There’s no reason the Yankees should be pinching pennies
