BREAKING: David Wright will begin a minor league rehab assignment tomorrow, playing five innings at third base for Class A St. Lucie. Wright last appeared in a minor league game on Aug. 26, 2017. A huge step in his rehab from back and shoulder issues.

Really hoping they are trying to get Wright on the field

For his farewell tour in September. This is unbearable. They should have a Reyes/Wright night... celebrate all their achievements and be done.
what

is Wright's role moving forward if he is healthy?

Lord I dont even know. I saw some pics of him rehabbing at 3B the other day. He's put on a ton of muscle and almost looks back up to typical Wright "body weight". Also, that he is playing 3B for St. Lucie is also interesting. I guess he/organization thinks he can still play 3B which is surprising.
Wright's competitiveness is impressive but he should just let it go

really hope he doesn't seriously hurt himself.

Bruce slated rehab games next week in Florida.
not really anything to do with today's game

but 1 of my top trade targets in the offseason would be Salvador Perez. He's not having his best year so his market shouldn't be as competitive as Realmuto or Ramos/Grandal as FA. The Royals should be rebuilding and he's 1 of the last remnants of the WS team but he's only 28 and has a very reasonable 3 years $36m left. Still 1 of the best defensive catchers in the game, 4 straight years of 20 homers so he'd bring the lineup much needed RH power and doesn't strike out too much. He's a similar age/contract to Dee Gordon when he was traded last year, so he will probably cost you at least 1 good prospect + Plawecki, but I think a trade like that would be worth it to stabilize the C position for multiple seasons. They have nothing at 1B so that might even be a way to cash in Dom Smith for whatever value he has left (along with other pieces).

I will believe it when I see it.
Like the way you think Eric

For a Marlins game, they might actually draw a decent crowd tonight...

Did you breeze over the part where I suggested trading plawecki?
Lol -Plawecki deserves to go where hes appreciated...
Shecky : 8/11/2018 5:40 pm : link
Also. Could be wrong, but I dont see Wright playing tomorrow.

That would be really weird. They just announced him playing 5 innings at St. Lucie tomorrow. I guess that would be very Mets though. Lol
Salvador Perez is a good call - a nice piece for the overall puzzle

If Perez is available the Braves will pounce. It was just reported that they went hard for catchers at the deadline. They reportedly made a huge offer for JT Realmuto. Perez is a damn good catcher and although he is having a down year for his standards there will still be a sizeable market for his services.
Theres a lot Im still rooting for this season
ZGiants98 : 8/11/2018 6:51 pm : link
Oswalt finishing strong would be excellent and basically completely eliminate a need to go out and get any SP for next year.

Obviously, some of our hitters and young relievers finishing strong would go a long way as well.
and when was the last time atl got outpounced for a C by a div rival?
Eric on Li : 8/11/2018 6:58 pm : link
it's been at least 2 weeks.

Wilson is a FA at the end of the season. They are looking for a long term answer not a rental with both of their catchers also hitting free agency. Philadelphia has clearly been more aggressive.
Grandal is who the Mets should target
Jay on the Island : 8/11/2018 7:12 pm : link
He won't cost them any prospects just cash. The dodgers will likely let him walk since they are loaded at catcher in the minors with two of the top 5 catcher prospects in baseball to go along with Austin Barnes.

The Yankees, Cubs, Giants are all set at catcher also so they won't bid on him.
Perez
BigBlueShock : 8/11/2018 7:46 pm : link
Is one of the best two way catchers in baseball and would cost a fortune. Dom Smith and parts isnt getting it done
nice job by Frazier
jpkmets : 8/11/2018 8:06 pm : link
Marlins pitcher got hosed on the 3-2 prior, but Todd made him pay.

Oswalt super efficient so far.
Peterson tossed a gem
pjcas18 : 8/11/2018 8:36 pm : link
6 IP 1H 0 ER 0 BB 9 K's.

best start in STL?
Everyone costs a fortune until they actually get traded
Eric on Li : 8/11/2018 9:53 pm : link
but either way doesn't matter, hypotheticals tend to be that way.

Nice to see a good start by Peterson. If he can start figuring things out all of sudden next year the upper level SP looks pretty good. Looks like Dunn also had a good start tonight, starting the 7th of a 2-2 game now with 7 k's, 2 ER.

Also another 2 walk game for Toffey. I don't recall too many prospects with an elite ability to walk but that seems like the type of thing that translates to some degree.

I'd have no issues with them signing Grandal and just as soon prefer not losing prospects, they just tend to not bid on higher end FA. But I guess there will be a new regime so who knows.
Wright went 0-3 today

The Mets optioned Jacob Rhame to Triple-A Las Vegas. Not sure yet who is coming up to replace him.
I'd guess Peterson but hope Alonso.
Eric on Li : 8/12/2018 4:55 pm : link
Could be Bautista or Hanhold also I guess, but not sure they'd want to yo-yo either of those guys.
Could be wrong
Shecky : 8/12/2018 5:48 pm : link
But assume its Peterson. Def not Alonso

madhatter9382 : 8/12/2018 9:53 pm : link
this might be a stupid question but what is Jeff Mcneil's status after this season? is he a free agent?
mcneil
CMicks3110 : 8/12/2018 11:00 pm : link
won't be a free agent for 6 years. He's the Mets property for the foreseeable future.

Yup. Alonso was too busy hitting another homer in vegas tonight. No reason to mess with that hot streak.
