In Eli Manning's first preseason game as a rookie in 2004.
He completed just 4 out of 14 passes, 28% comp percentage, for 20 yards and 2 interceptions.
Eli was the #1 pick that year, people were panicking, saying he was a bust and this guy is terrible. They were passing judgement on him too soon, and look at how he turned out.
I know Davis Webb was not sharp last night, but he at least completed 9 of 22 passes for 70 yards.
In my opinion Davis was nervous, which made him rigid, and not calm in the pocket to allow his natural talents to come out. That comes with game reps.
On a 3rd and 7 play, he made the right read, he just overthrew the receiver, not enough air under it. If he hit him that is a 60 yard TD.
Lets all relax for a bit, and lets see how he plays over these next few games. When he's more calm in the pocket and processing faster, if he is still playing terrible, then that is time for concern, but until then lets not panic just yet.

Plenty of rookie QBs don't see the field their first year then start in their 2nd year. He spent a year in an NFL program, in NFL practices. We all were subjected to article upon article about how hard he worked and how he was the first one in the building picking Eli's brain and how it's night and day from last season to this season for him. He's not a rookie.

Don't overreact to one bad pre-season performance, but I think it's also important to be a listed about expectations for Webb. Having a strong arm and great work ethic is not enough to succeed in the NFL and right now he has not really shown anything beyond those two traits.

Webb barely played in the preseason last year. McAdoo was more concerned about seeing who was better between Josh Johnson and Geno. They pretty much red shirted Webb.
At one point Mayfield and Webb had close to the same stats, but the difference between them was still very stark. It was very clear who was a #1 pick and who was the third round pick.
And the comparisons aren't fair to Webb. People before the draft claiming the Giants didn't draft a QB because Webb was considered the future replacement for Eli ... just ridiculous pressure and unfair expectations placed on Webb.

FMIC, this is typical. The remnants of the Josh Rosen draft fan club continue to treat anyone who thinks Eli has at least another good year or two in him like they are morons. Sir this isn't correct, if you rewatched the game, you would have seen he overthrew him by 3 yards, not 10. As I've said all he needed to do was put more air under it and he has a 60 yard TD. Give him some time, it was his first taste of live action in over a year.
