NFT: Knicks Chat - Big Hypothetical

GMEN46 : 8/12/2018 11:21 am
I keep reading about Jimmy Butler and Kyrie wanting to join forces and knicks being on the list of teams. Let’s assume knicks can rid themselves of Lee and Hardaway’s contracts and they end up stretching Noah. I know this is not going to be an easy task and I am not saying I even want Butler and Kyrie, but let’s assume this is the knicks plan.

Where would you rank a team with this team in the east and what about overall NBA (again huge hypothetical):

Assumed starting 5:

PG - Kyrie
SG - Frank
SF - Butler
PF - Knox
C - Porzingis

Bench
2019 lottery pick
MLE
Robinson
Dotson
Burke - assuming he is resigned
Dotson
Veteran SG

IDefensively really good at 3 of the positions, weak at PG and Knox is an unknown. Im guessing this would be a top 8 team in NBA and top 3 in th east. But def short if the top tier. Obviously knox and Robinson are unknowns and so is Frank.
Can we bump everybody down one?
robbieballs2003 : 8/12/2018 11:24 am : link
Robinson
Porzingis
Knox
Butler
Irving

?
Shouldn’t the goal be to win a championship?

That’s a solid hypothetical roster but likely not a title contender. Maybe that’s a 2nd round ceiling sort of roster. Still delusional hoping the Knicks land Durant.
How about this in 2019
larryflower37 : 8/12/2018 12:52 pm : link
Kristaps Porzingis PF
Frank Ntilikina PG
Kevin Knox SF
R.J. Barrett SG
Mitchell Robinson C

And stop bring in injury plagued or old talent.
Let them devlop together first before we spend on talent?

Last year was a big man draft, the year before was a point guard draft
bceagle05 : 8/12/2018 1:20 pm : link
and this year's is looking like a shooting guard draft, at least at the top. It'd be nice to get one of them. I don't see how Kyrie/Butler is realistic here as a package deal.

I agree, I don’t really want butler or Kyrie. I would rather go with the young nucleus with the exception being you can get Durant, Kawhi (assuming he is healthy) or even Klay Thompson. I think I would pass on everyone else
We definitely need a PG to drive this offense
robbieballs2003 : 8/12/2018 1:32 pm : link
but I do like Frank as a defensive guy off the bench. I just don't see him being dynamic enough on offense at PG or SG to count on him as a starter. Hopefully he continues to develop and prove everybody wrong. Having a true PG for the Knicks has been like trying to find the holy grail.

You are in a better position if you wait another year and go after Giannis Antetokounmpo.

More like Durant in 2019 and Davis in 2020. That would be some big fucking men in our lineup...
I love how early the NBA season starts now.
bceagle05 : 8/12/2018 3:14 pm : link
Used to be early November, now it's mid-October. Pre-season games start early October. Be here before ya know it.
I say no to Kyrie and Butler
Earl the goat : 8/12/2018 3:17 pm : link
Yes to Durant in 2019 and if he doesn’t come than Anthony Davis in 2020
If Frank fails to work out in 2018 then you draft a point guard with the lottery pick we get in 2019
If Durant says no and Kyrie wants to sign here
bceagle05 : 8/12/2018 3:25 pm : link
I can't fathom the Knicks passing him up. I share the concerns of many about his durability, but I doubt we'll have the discipline to say no. That's a pretty big fish, assuming he gets through this season healthy.

Especially since he fits a need and is still relatively young.
Yeah, Kyrie + a top 10 pick next summer
bceagle05 : 8/12/2018 3:37 pm : link
added to KP, Knox, Frankie and Robinson is a pretty damn good foundation. Could also move Timmy to a sixth man role, for which he is best suited. I really think we're gonna be excited about the Knicks roster this time next year. Feels like things are finally changing.
Lets just come out of this year
robbieballs2003 : 8/12/2018 3:43 pm : link
with developing the young guys and getting a top pick in this draft. It would be great to have KP as the number 2 guy instead of the guy. So, regardless of FA which we can get one if not 2 guys we can also have a solid core while also getting a potential franchise changing player in the draft.
Melo signing today with Hou

I like Kyrie, but his injury history really worries me. I'd still try to land him obviously.
