him once. My HS was hosting a wrestling event and our lacrosse team just got back from a game. It was a little surreal being in the same locker room next to these big WWF dudes.

back in 1995, maybe he wasnt having a good day but he was a jerk to everyone who wanted an autograph. One guy wanted his Anvil Hasbro figure still in package signed and they had a printed autograph already on all of the packages back in the day and he had refused to sign it for the guy as he said it was already signed. The guy was like its not really on there and he is like yes it is and I wont sign it.
Feel bad for Nattie though.

and probably more....
All dead before 65, most before 50.
a few years ago somebody did the football players vs wrestlers wrestlemania battle royal match in 1986 and most wrestler were dead and all the NFL players were alive but one.
Anyway, The Anvil was legendary for his non-stop partying and crack smoking. No other wrestler could keep up with him except maybe the iron sheik. Amazing he lasted to 63.
wonder if Natty is going to wrestle tonight, though I think the show already started? But he had long and well-documented history of drug abuse, been in rehab more than once. There were also signs that he had dementia the past few years. All that plus the physical trauma from wrestling... The stories from those guy's histories are really sad, too.
I saw a pic of him with his Daughter Natalia enjoying a smashing pumpkins show. He looked really good also. In great shape. Prolly was a heart issue or something out of the blue.
While watching WWE network yesterday I was explaining to my gf that Natty's dad was part of one of my favorite tag teams of all time. RIP to the big man.
Calm down. I loved Owen's fued with Bret in 1994 Â
I am not saying he sucked or anything by that belief but with the Rock Austin DX emerging as top guys I couldn't give a fuck less about him prior to him dying.
Of course what happened to him was horrific but dare I say I wouldn't have missed anything. Then when he passed, and how he was being used I didn't notice his absence.
He was a curtain jerker and his death was out of the blue. It kind of put a damper on things but life goes on. Fuck the program in 1999 went on without him the night he died. Vinny boy only cares about one thing (money)
they aren't doing anything interesting anyway. Funny how this is seen as this big step forward and they're giving them more exposure but the women that wrestled before them were far more entertaining (and better looking)
RE: RE: I know it sucks he died but I hate to say it Â
Overrated? If anything, he was underrated. He was never world champion and was only IC champion twice.
I am saying after Owen died, he was looked at as if he was this big component and wasted. I dont think he was. Just because you weren't a WWF champion doesnt mean you werent a part of the show.
Didn't he say he DIDN'T want to be WWF champion time and time again? Again, he kind of faded off to a tag team with JJ because the rest of the company was way too top heavy with talent

Alright? I think I see what you mean, but I think Owen was underrated. He didn't have the in-ring technical skills as Bret (not many do), but he definitely was a better talker and way more charismatic than Bret. They simply had no idea what to do with him. Owen also was absolutely hilarious, as demonstrated below, and everyone in the back loved him. Bret was way more uptight and not as well-liked by the guys in the back.
They kind of did the same thing with Eddie Guerrero. Everyone canonized him after death and don't get me wrong, Eddie was awesome, but he wasn't a main-eventer. He wasn't a legend that changed the industry. He was fantastic and had a great, great career in pro wrestling. He had a memorable feud with Rey Mysterio, won a belt in the most spectacular of fashions (obviously they omit it because it was the same night that Chris Benoit won the other belt) and had a program with Chyna (Latino Heat and all that), but he was mostly an afterthought in the WWE. And in WCW, he was simply a jobber.
but it is kind of hard since a "main eventer" means something completely different in the split brand Ruthless aggression era than it did during Owen's time before his death (Attitude Era). I thought Eddie did well under the spotlight.
Owen was a great midcarder and that's as far as it goes for me. Austin was way too big for me to care at all about Owen and the Rock in comparison was a young guy who was the obvious next new star in 1998 and onward.
I remember thinking the blue blazer thing was his final thing before being cut by the company. It sadly was, what a stupid way for a man in his 30s with kids to die.
My brothers and sisters woke up to that news when I told them in the morning (only PPV we ever missed during the AE) Owen passed. They were in tears and didn't know what to do, the innocence behind that day is what I long for.
These guys are more messed up than retired football players. So many of them have never even seen 50

Yep. He had to be around 450 pounds too.
What does that tell you what?

He was 70 though. Like Jimmy Superfly (73)
young, by average life expectancy, but not young for a wrestler, sad to say.
though I think it's pretty clear Jimmy had CTE.

Neidhart was on the Raiders & the Cowboys, although I'm not sure if he ever played any regular season games.

Well, the Rock was, but Owen definitely put a twist in the group
In the middle of Bret’s book was an old school WWF media photo of The Hart Foundation with Jimmy Hart. Made me feel like a little kid again.
