Shurmur is very candid at times

joeinpa : 8/14/2018 10:26 am
It s kind of refreshing. His pressers have often been laced with observations that are anything but guarded coach speech.

Just read the transcript from yesterday. In response to the question regarding Webb and Lauletta reps with the first team, he answered, it s always a good thing to get back ups those types of reps.

He quickly followed Up with, "But it s the quarterback s job to complete passes no matter who he s playing with.

His demeanor instils confidence in this fan who views things from afar, but the games haven t begun yet.

Curious to see how it tranlsates with the players

When I listen to him speak, it translates to me rather clearly. When I played the game, it wasn't always a given the coach(es) would be clear and confident communicators, not every coach gets through to the players. Suspect BM had problems in this area, while Shurmur may do well.
He's human, candid and not adversarial in his media relations

that alone is a quantum leap forward from where we were last season. It doesn't say everything about his coaching ability, but he gets solid marks as a communicator, and that's clearly an important part of it.
He actually speaks like a real person

after BM it's incredibly refreshing.
Yeah I think most still have the memory of BM

the last two years fresh in their minds.

Also when TC was here, he came from the Parcells school of being annoyed at anything the press asks.

Definitely a change from how it has been.
Both he and Gettleman

Give you more than you ever got from Reese and Coughlin/McAdon't.
At least a guy like TC had a pretty huge Resume

He was Definitely crabby Never understood by Reese was such an arrogant type. So many issues w his drafts and cap mamgment. He was never even remotely on the hot seat
And never talked to the media. They fired the DC OC and the head coach and he was never Forced to change anything.

"This is a job for a grown-up" said Dave Gettleman upon hiring Shurmur.
If Shurmur crashes and burns as HC

it will be amusing to read in a couple years how people hate the way he runs press conferences.

"He talks too much."

"Blah blah blah."

"Where does he get off being that candid?"
Funny thing is that after a while, we'd all agree with TC
Moondawg : 8/14/2018 8:09 pm : link
that most press questions are dumb.

With Parcells, Accorsi, and TC you can point to an anecdote or interview where you can see they have some insight and philosophy about the game of football. Never ever with Reese and his basketball in cleats wtf?
