Can Webb or Stewart play themselves off the roster? If Lauletta shows to be the better QB do we need to carry 3 QB on the roster? If Martin and Simmons look to be better does Stewart's contract keep him on the team?
to start unless forced to. He’s here to give breathers and for some goal line situations. He doesn’t need to be 5-10 years younger to fit what Shurmur wants to do. We picked up Ottis in ‘86 primarily to spell Morris and situationally. Obviously with Morris gone and Hampton injured in ‘90, that all changed.

D”S”G knows what he’s doing
But OJ turned out to be out of this world... if only Stewart could come close to what Anderson did for the Giants!!

Webb is a developmental QB. He could easily lose his position as injury fill-in for Eli this year, but not his current slot of projected permanent future replacement.
Unless, and until, injuries thin the RB corps, Stewart is the short yardage specialist RB only. Not only does he have a history of success doing this, but this is a pounding we s/b happy for SB to avoid.
Stewart's play in the 1st preseason game, he was asked to run two plays he likely won't ever see in the regular season. He'll be primarily a short yardage and goalline guy.
My biggest complaint was him whiffing on a blitz pickup as he will be called on to do that and he's been solid in that regard in his career.
In the preseason game, he converted a 3rd and short. That was a good sign. He lost yardage on a pitch out, a play he won't be running and he had no gain on a sweep, another type of run he won't be used for.
Gallman will likely be the primary backup and we'll keep Stewart and one other RB on the roster outside of Barkley.
If Stewart can't convert short runs and shows a propensity to fumble in the next couple of games, then he'd be at risk, but even then, it will be dead $$ against the cap.

From your mouth.....

Of course I put very little credence in anything Dottino says about the Giants.
I was curious to hear his take on Webb s performance, he is Webb s biggest fan"
His take was pure Dottino. He implies it was because he did not play with the 1 s.
Drawing conclusions about Webb based on the Browns game, is silly. But suggesting the performance was due to playing with the 2s is even more silly.
BBK is actually a pretty good podcast for Giants news. Most of the guys are as objective as they can be, considering they work for the team.
Dottino obvious bias I believe is based on his relationships with the players, his input is mostly very slanted.
He was waived injured - his injury meant he'd miss half the season at least. He's still a Giant, and will get a chance next season.
Move on and bring in a veteran at #3.

Come to think of it, some of Webb's throws were closer to the #1's on the sidelines then the actual guys on the field so maybe Dottino had a point.
