Last night playing at home against the Mariners they had an attendance of 10,400. Plus, during the game they are advertising 15 dollar tickets for lower level seats. I know the stadium is old and they need to move. However, here your team is fighting for a playoff spot and playing the team your competing against and only 10,400 show up. Pretty sad.
You read this web site there are people who defend the Mara's to the death under any circumstances. Hell there are Knick fans who think Jim Dolan is a good good guy who "spends". It explains a lot about human behavior and how autocrats maintain their positions.
Also, when your team has traded away every star it's had for the past two decades, it's hard to create brand loyalty. They (sometimes) win, and they do so on a modest budget...that's great. But the lag time between success and fan buy-in is going to be longer where these factors are at play.
On that I would disagree. The SF Giants play in the same weather and have been Top 5 in attendance for 8 years and haven't dropped lower than 11th (usually much higher) since the park opened in 2000.

The Rams didn't get shit last year either. Neither did the Chargers. Florida teams don't do well.

That also correlates to the new stadium. I guess I'm old school. W would go to old Y.S. and have to sit with a pole obstructing our view . But, we still went. Unfortunatly its more about the stadium and the ameneties than what's on the field. This goes for all teams.
There is definite merit in this. The LA Dodgers do well, but football teams traditionally haven't, and no Florida baseball teams have ever killed it for attendance. Arizona has a good team and a nice park and is middle of the pack most of the time. I just don't think that applies as much to the Bay Area.
Agree. However, if you can get seats behind homeplate on the first 2 levels they are very good. However, seats down the base lines are horrible. I couldn't believe the first time I went to the bathroom and seen the troughs. WOW.
Kids. Any place that does fireworks will see attendance spike.
I think a lot more are thinking the same way. Still to only have only 10,00 when you fighting for a playoff spot is crazy.
It's not a matter of affording it, nobody in my house will go hungry, but simply put - fuck that. A poorly made sweatshop garment of substandard materials gets $75 because of team licensing? If that means I'm a bad fan, well, so be it. If not wanting to dump more money into the pockets of overpaid billionaire owners and players makes me the bad guy, I'm OK with that. Real wages in this country have been stagnant forever but somehow the price of sports seems to be going up exponentially with no end in sight.

and probably won’t until the WC comes to the US in 2026. The commute, cost, and decreased ability to watch the game effectively as opposed to on TV are all massive turn offs.

The Chargers were fighting for a playoff spot last year and had a league low 25,000 fans per game. There are only 8 regular season games per year compared to 81 for baseball.
Yes, I understand the Chargers moved from SD to LA and they want a new stadium but they moved because SD wasn't cutting it. The Rams had issues with attendance as well and they were one of the more exciting teams to watch last year.
This. I could go to $20 Wiz games after work. It's right on the Metro, and I still don't go because the prices for food and drink and to be honest, it's easier/better to watch from the comfort of my own home.
Movie theaters have started to recognize this and are now offering reclining more comfortable seats, etc. I expect that newer stadiums will need to adopt these trends as well.

Don't the Rams play in the Coliseum? The capacity there is 93K.
Mount Davis was the worst thing they ever did. I thought the closing of the upper deck was from the previous ownership. You have to admit if you do drive, getting out of the parking lot and getting on the highway is a breeze.
There could be more, but don't count on it.
ESPN shows the A's average 18,409 per game, and that's probably an overcount.
To put things in perspective, Miami averages 9,677 per night. That team ruined baseball in two towns now.
[quote] If there are only 12,000 baseball fans in the area, then over 80% of them showed up. That would be very impressive.

I heard that Miami is announcing the fans that show up. Not the paid attendance. I think a lot are missing my point. The A's are in a pennant race and playing their completion for the playoff spot. Sorry, I expect more than 10 thousand to show up.
They announce paid attendance. But they stopped including unpaid promo tickets in the count.

The structure near the Lucas Oil "ad" looks like the sort of thing you might be forced to march through as a victim of genocide:
It's going to take more than a wild card chase to re-engage a fan base that is primed to support a team. You put together the spector of a good team for a few consecutive years and let's talk.
Knocking Oakland fans is kind of a joke. At the nearest sign of being competitive the Radiers fill that shithole, and let's not even get started of the Warriors and Oracle.
So when 2/3 teams can get huge draws to those two buildings that are feet apart, I'd wager it's more the A's than East Bay fans.
I love the trough. It gets lots of people in and out in the fastest time. It's a can't miss, wish more stadiums had them.
They really are the biggest losers in the world
