Hopefully this is Vargas's

last start... There was talk with Matz returning this week Vargas might be headed to the pen. Option B would likely be that they just go to a 6 man rotation (also not the worst idea with Wheeler's innings get out of control. )
I have been out for awhile,

Who is Jack Reinheimer and when did he arrive?

Mets claimed him off waivers... because he's on the 40 man he was called up for IF depth.

Dare I say it?

But the last 7 or 8 games the Mets have actually looked like a good team

That’s cause Rosario and McNeil are getting on base
Addison Reed has quietly been atrocious this year...
ZGiants98 : 8/14/2018 9:40 pm : link
In a sea of not much going right this year, at least we didn't sign Reed. And a two year deal? Yikes.

He has struggled but relievers can be volatile he could bounce back next season for all we know. He would have been a better choice than Swarzak though.

Reed is cooked. Collins abused him. Swarzak has been pitching very well lately and hasn't pitched half as many innings as Reed this year. Disagree.
That’s because he was hurt for a good portion of the year

Went to the game tonight.

Lots of Mets fans in Baltimore tonight. Big group from D.C. going tomorrow.

Vargas looked serviceable, pitched fine for 6 innings, just doesn't miss many bats. Defense is scary for a guy that has to pitch to contact. Wahl and Sewald did not look good. 0-3 against the worst team in baseball. The Mets made Cashner looked like a better pitcher than he really is. go get 'em tomorrow, I guess.
I'm still

trying to decide whether to go tonight or not. Camden Yards is just a short Uber ride from my house but I'm not exactly enthused about the Mets recently. It's free t-shirt night which is a plus! I nice bright orange oversized Orioles shirt to wear on laundry day!

Wheeler has been throwing great lately. Tickets are probably cheap. You don't have to stay for the entire game. Might as well see him throw gas for a few hours and see if Conforto, Nimmo, McNiel or Rosario can do anything to give some optimism for next year.

I still have a Wieters t-shirt from 2011 when I went to a work event at Camden for a Red Sox Orioles game and it was Wieters t-shirt night and I use it for mowing the lawn. 7 years that shirt has lasted.

The shirt is more durable than Wieters himself

Swarzak is on the DL with a bum shoulder and had a 9.00 era over his last 9 appearances... am I missing something?

If you were watching the games he had a nice stretch before getting bombed in a game which blew up his numbers again. It was literally all they talked about. Overall, of course he’s been bad but he hasn’t had the largest of samples either. Seemed like he was pitching better before that appearance.
Actually...
ZGiants98 : 8/15/2018 7:05 pm : link
Last 5.1 innings.. 1.69 ERA, 0.53 FIP, 11.81 K/9, zero walks. Obviously, a small sample but the biggest positive (on top of his velocity being there), he seemed to regain control of his pitches again. He was wild as hell earlier in the year. Not sure if it was from his ST getting screwed up or the injuries but it was certainly a positive IMO.
