Am enjoying myself like nowhere else. This city is amazing and more cultural in many ways than cities I’ve visited in Europe. Bourbon St is mind numbing.
Having said that, the homeless situation here is appalling. Its very sad.... many many homeless vets and others. The shelters here charge $8 a night?
At any rate if you’re thinking of a place to go, I promise NOLA won’t disappoint. Coming back for sure.
And like 1PM one night while you are there got to F&M Patio bar. It's a place that gets real wild at night (Patrons dancing on pool tables) It's a local spot that will not disappoint.
Also grab a handgernade at Tropical Isle, but be forewarned you will be blacked out shortly after you finish it.

Commander's palace I highly recommend, as well as grand isle cafe and cochon for lunch if you're near the warehouse district. Frenchmen st is better than bourbon st IMO. Mother's restaurant has the best gumbo I've ever eaten.
It is definitely on my list of places to get back to soon. Maybe the next Giants game down there.
Totally agree, Really enjoyed that museum
I have actually never had an oyster in my life.
Drago's good too, probably a ton of places in New Orleans that have great char grilled oysters.
it's maybe the only food in my life I've ever craved. I had a customer meeting in baton rouge and I booked my travel into and out of New Orleans for no reason other than so I could spend a night there and eat/drink.
Absolutely fantastic! I've been hooked on having them at least once everytime I'm in NO.

same here. So good. It's one of those things I wonder why they can't make them as good elsewhere. maybe like lobster in New England or salmon in the northwest I guess with the freshest ingredients maybe things are just better. and I love the rest of the New Orleans cuisine too, gumbo, jambalaya, etouffe, red beans and rice, etc..
I wasn't a smoked salmon fan, in fact grew up in New England and never even tried it until a work trip to Seattle and they had an appetizer at this pub we were at of smoked salmon and capers, and holy shit it was awesome. Never quite as good anywhere else since. In fact I got my smoker because I wanted to do smoked salmon (though I've still never tried that on there, I heard it's pretty hard to do)
Did you happen to visit Confederate Memorial Hall? It is located on the NW corner of the rear of the WWII museum. Fantastic museum regardless of one's Union/Confederate allegiance.
Yes
Fun to party, but been there done that, including Mardi Gras in the Quarter, Beignets at 7am. LSU vs OU National Championship in the Sugar Bowl!! Funny truth is that I've been a DIE HARD Giants fan since I first saw a football game (Super Bowl 21). I had tickets purchased for Giants vs Saints at the Dome in 2004. It would've been my first time seeing the Giants play live. Unfortunately, Katrina hit!! Til this day I haven't seen them play, fortunately I'm going to see them here against the Texans!!! I cant wait!! But, yeah Ill pass on going back to live in NOLA lol
Not going to lie though, I truly miss a beer and a shrimp Po Boy at 3am!!
Cockroaches
Humidity and heat
Occasional hurricane
Crime
Sub par Italian food despite being an otherwise strong food city
Mufaletta at the grocery spot, forget the name, google it!
I second commander's palace, be prepared to eat, and order a lot.
Can't forget Beignets too, if you're not gluten free... I am, and just fell on the sword for many dishes in NOLA for the experience.
Two fat cats I believe it's called... Great little jazz club you'll find most of the authentic jazz on Frederick street, and the frat party on Bourbon.
And WWII museum was incredible, wish I wasn't so hungover for it lol, but we just stepped off a cruise (that ported from NOLA).
Almost died eating and drinking so much, but definitely my favorite US City, by a long shot! The spirit there is unlike anything. Enjoy!
I was there for the 1980 Sugar Bowl between PS and Bama. What a game!!!
Central Grocery on Decatur St.
The food and the music. Just walk around the city and listen. Must keep your wallet in your front pocket at all times though!
I had never eaten oysters before, and couldn't do them raw. I saw some folks here raving about the char grilled, so I stopped in an Oyster bar and ordered.....My God were they good!....buttery charred, just delicious....
Ruby Slipper café was good for breakfast....
I did go to Central Grocery on Decatur. Muffaletta so good, I went back the next day for another. My family, even the picky one, enjoyed them.
Bourbon St is a fun place...it's absolutely disgusting, but fun. The whole place would be condemned if it was in NJ, or a lot of states for that matter, but I guess that's part of what defines it.
Beignets were good. My wife liked them better at Café Du Monde than at Café Beignet. The open beignet cafés result in little diabetic birdies....
Street performers are awesome...
The homeless situation is bad, but enhanced by "gutter punks". Look it up.
Great experience and it's definitely on my list of places to re-visit
