He quite literally ALWAYS SUCKS.

Because 4 guys who are ahead of him are hurt - Montgomery, Sabathia, German, and Loaisiga.

Incorrect. They optioned Cessa up ahead of German

Lasagna just started his rehab assignment I believe - so we should have him available again before long.
German hasn't pitched since July 26

And, in any case, his numbers are worse than Cessa's, so I'm not sure what difference it makes.

Not sure why Cessa was given the start over Sheffield, either.

Thats really not true. If you look at Cessas shitty numbers he only pitched 5 or more twice while DG pitched at least 5 8 times and he kept us in the game the whole time. He is a far more preferable option than Cessa.

Not sure how you can use this game with Cessa pitching as a barometer for that.

They're on pace to win over 100 games and there's still 6+ weeks left in the season. They just need to get healthy, and then I'd take my chances with this team against anyone.
That pitch was too close to take

had a good year offensively.

But he's been absolutely awful defensively. Everyone thinks he's a good defensive catcher, but he isn't. He can't throw for shit. Severino's numbers with him catching are significantly worse than they are with Sanchez/Hagishioka.

The Yankees helped that narrative that he's a good defensive catcher when they for some unknown reason catered to Sonny Gray when Gray's problems had nothing to do with who was catching and everything to do with Sonny Gray being a mental midget who can't pitch in New York.

he's out

needs to go on the DL with a mysterious injury and traded in the off-season. He's just a horrible pitcher in this market. Take whatever you can get in the off-season and move on.

Didn't they give Chance Adams the start. He already was added to the 40 man roster and didn't pitch too bad against Boston?

Weird. I flipped for a second and it showed 4-3 Boston. My guess is a run scored and Philly challenged and won?

I don't know but figured it must've been something like that.

Phils up 4-3 now after six.

I have no explanation for Boones incessant use of proven losers Like Shreve, Gray, Cessa and Robinson. He has or had alternatives. Sheffield, Carrol, Mckinney Frazier (Before injuriy) and even Mcbroom. Using the excuse "at least Cessa has some experience" is lame, his experience is failure.

Yep - that right there is the reason we won't win the ALE which is a fucking bummer.

The Judge updates aren't sounding promising either. He might not even be 100% when he does return? Ugh...

If you want to criticize Boone there's plenty of things you can question and debate. The 25 man roster is not one of them. Those decisions are made above his head. I'm sure he gets to have his say and opinion but the final call is not his.
The Yankees are 27-25 vs the AL East

Sheffield had a rough game last night. He only lasted 1 and two thirds of an inning, walking 5(!) and giving up 4 hits, and let up 4 runs. He also threw 72 pitches- with 41 strikes- while not getting out of the second inning.

Ouch.

If he had just been able to step it up, he probably would have been called up to replace Cessa, IMO. Unfortunately, he's now going to have to show better command before he gets the call. Not throwing strikes- or failing to throw quality pitches outside the zone- isn't going to get you to NY.

What is really sad is that Happ and Lynn have been upgrades as SP, and Tanaka has generally been solid in his lat 14 starts- but Sevy has taken a BIG step back- and none of the 5th SP fill-ins have been worth anything.

I think when CC comes back, it might be worth the Yanks time to let Sevy sit for 10 days for mental and physical rest. They won't win the AL East, but they will be a Wild Card team. Better to go into the playoffs looking to be as healthy as possible as opposed to limping in injured and struggling- and going home early.
Hope Johnny Lasagna can make it back soon
