Arguing that it's all about his slider, which has been flatter and straighter lately. Link - ( New Window )
It's weird, it seems like it's flat early in games and gets laced - but then sometimes later on in a start, it will begin to bite again and have that movement we've seen when he's at his best. He doesn't seem to have a good feel for it lately. Just have to hope they can get him fixed up. I'd really love to see him just get like 2 weeks off and reset but I don't know if they'll do it.
Don't know about that. Their production is pretty even aside from average and Torres isn t the butcher Andujar is in the field. It's advantage Andujar at the moment, but let's see what happens when Torres starts hitting again.
Torres is going to have to get white hot for a bit to get back ahead of Andujar, methinks. Miggy is 1st among rookies in basically every category. His defense sucks but the voters probably aren't going to weigh that much.
Andujar has been quite a bit better over the last few weeks especially.
Torres is batting .145/.250/.290/.540 since his DL stint with 3 HR's, 10 RBI's and 1 double in that span of 69 AB's.
Andujar during that same span is batting .307/.333/.587/.920 with 6 HR, 17 RBI's, and 3 doubles in 75 AB's.
It was Torres by a little bit when he hit the DL, I think - but since he's come off, Andujar has been much, much better.
Of course, Andujar can (and probably will) cool a bit and Torres will hopefully get back on track. But It think the gap is starting to widen by the day the longer this keeps up. To me, Andujar would absolutely be the guy if the season ended right now.
Then again, if you're a big WAR guy, they're both @ 1.7 bWAR - mostly because Torres is much better in the field.
And, in any case, his numbers are worse than Cessa's, so I'm not sure what difference it makes.
Thats really not true. If you look at Cessas shitty numbers he only pitched 5 or more twice while DG pitched at least 5 8 times and he kept us in the game the whole time. He is a far more preferable option than Cessa.
Not sure how you can use this game with Cessa pitching as a barometer for that.
They're on pace to win over 100 games and there's still 6+ weeks left in the season. They just need to get healthy, and then I'd take my chances with this team against anyone.
But he's been absolutely awful defensively. Everyone thinks he's a good defensive catcher, but he isn't. He can't throw for shit. Severino's numbers with him catching are significantly worse than they are with Sanchez/Hagishioka.
The Yankees helped that narrative that he's a good defensive catcher when they for some unknown reason catered to Sonny Gray when Gray's problems had nothing to do with who was catching and everything to do with Sonny Gray being a mental midget who can't pitch in New York.
needs to go on the DL with a mysterious injury and traded in the off-season. He's just a horrible pitcher in this market. Take whatever you can get in the off-season and move on.
It might not be worth rushing Sheffield's development for the needs of the big league club that's almost certainly going to make the 'offs. (But yeah I wanna see him from a fan's perspective.)
Guy stinks. Even the outs were super loud right from the get go. Gray was in a mop-up role and gave us 1-run (so far) and some innings. Not the villain tonight, gents.
Still very much struggling with bad to mediocre teams Â
But again no offense. 1 run off a bunch of garbage relievers how many times has this rays bullpen shut down this offense it’s happen like 8 times this year can the Yankee offense ever comeback and win a game?

I have no explanation for Boones incessant use of proven losers Like Shreve, Gray, Cessa and Robinson. He has or had alternatives. Sheffield, Carrol, Mckinney Frazier (Before injuriy) and even Mcbroom. Using the excuse "at least Cessa has some experience" is lame, his experience is failure.
If you want to criticize Boone there's plenty of things you can question and debate. The 25 man roster is not one of them. Those decisions are made above his head. I'm sure he gets to have his say and opinion but the final call is not his.

Sheffield had a rough game last night. He only lasted 1 and two thirds of an inning, walking 5(!) and giving up 4 hits, and let up 4 runs. He also threw 72 pitches- with 41 strikes- while not getting out of the second inning.
Ouch.
If he had just been able to step it up, he probably would have been called up to replace Cessa, IMO. Unfortunately, he's now going to have to show better command before he gets the call. Not throwing strikes- or failing to throw quality pitches outside the zone- isn't going to get you to NY.
What is really sad is that Happ and Lynn have been upgrades as SP, and Tanaka has generally been solid in his lat 14 starts- but Sevy has taken a BIG step back- and none of the 5th SP fill-ins have been worth anything.
I think when CC comes back, it might be worth the Yanks time to let Sevy sit for 10 days for mental and physical rest. They won't win the AL East, but they will be a Wild Card team. Better to go into the playoffs looking to be as healthy as possible as opposed to limping in injured and struggling- and going home early.
Or not
Or maybe they were just happy because they were winning, and they were winning because they were healthy.
We'll see.

I was going to suggest him last week when Cashman Jr. started like 8 out of 10 games or something wild like that.
I don't think Curtis has much left, but I'd sure as hell rather have him.

Heck of a grab for a guy who's only played a couple of games in the outfield. Actually that's a good grab for anyone but especially a guy in his spot.
Not really. Neither of the two hits was hit particularly hard.
Glad we didn't move him at the deadline. He's fucking awesome.

Because 4 guys who are ahead of him are hurt - Montgomery, Sabathia, German, and Loaisiga.

He quite literally ALWAYS SUCKS.

Incorrect. They optioned Cessa up ahead of German
Enough with this guy
Not sure why Cessa was given the start over Sheffield, either.

Well, he was a Met originally.

Luis Cessa is truly awful.

Don't I know it! :)
Just checked back in on that game and it's still 3-3 bottom 6, Phils threatening.
Yeah. Stupid on top of being a headcase of a pitcher.

They never freaking lose.

Weird. I flipped for a second and it showed 4-3 Boston. My guess is a run scored and Philly challenged and won?

Now it’s 4-3 Phils.

I don't know but figured it must've been something like that.
Phils up 4-3 now after six.

Yep - that right there is the reason we won't win the ALE which is a fucking bummer.
The Judge updates aren't sounding promising either. He might not even be 100% when he does return? Ugh...

Yup. Just started a rehab assignment, so let's hope late August/early Sept. he's ready to roll.
