When is somebody going to ask

About Wheelers innings?? The guy missed 2.5 years and only threw 86 innings last year. He’s already at 140. We can’t possibly keep pitching him all year can we?

Good point. Gotta cut him off around 170-180 right?

He is 2 years removed from surgery, I can't see why you would limit his innings?
He only seems to be getting stronger and obviously showing no signs of a dead arm or laboring.

Good question, If they do keep pitching him all year I think that proves that they don't plan on extending him past next season otherwise why push your SP in a lost season?

Being 2 years removed from surgery has very little to do with increasing a pitchers workload slowly.

Who knows. We don’t even know who our future GM is or what his direction will be. The whole thing gives me agita. I’d be more than fine capping him at 160-170. That’s pushing it as it is IMO.
Sadly
DanMetroMan : 8/15/2018 5:21 pm : link
with Flexen done for the year the next guys up will be guys like Conlon or Gagnon/Copeland but I'd love to see Jannis given a start, Plawecki probably wouldn't lol
I would stop at 150- 160 for the year
Jay on the Island : 8/15/2018 5:22 pm : link
I don't see the need to go much farther than that.

+1. I was being generous.
Wheeler
DanMetroMan : 8/15/2018 5:25 pm : link
is a stubborn SOB, wouldn't shock me if he pushed for more innings knowing #1 arbitration #2 proving to teams he can throw innings when he hits FA
Sounds like they may go to a 6 man rotation
ZGiants98 : 8/15/2018 5:26 pm : link
For a little bit with Matz returning this week. Matz is one guy I do want to get some innings as he heads into next year.
Frazier with an 8 game hitting streak
ZGiants98 : 8/15/2018 7:18 pm : link
Would love for Frazier, Bruce, and Vargas to reclaim some value heading into the offseason...
Wheeler looks gassed tonight...
ZGiants98 : 8/15/2018 7:55 pm : link
A ton of pitches over two innings...

Value to the Mets or other teams? No chance anybody has interest in
Bruce or Vargas. Too limited in talent and performance and too much money left.

Frazier probably is here next year unless a new GM really wants to shake things up.

If any of them bounce back they all likely regain at least some value. Frazier on a one year deal is likely attractive for a team... I definitely could see Bruce having value if he finished strong with only 2 years left...He's at least a DH for many teams in the AL. Not saying we get huge return or anything... and we may even have to eat some salary.. but I dont think it's impossible these guys could be unloaded if we find upgrades elsewhere.
only chance Bruce gets traded in a non salary dump is if you get hired
Eric on Li : 8/15/2018 8:21 pm : link
as GM of the team trading for him. Or maybe Sandy. Otherwise it's bad contract for bad contract, regardless of what he does rest of season.
Nimmo is officially back on fire..

If Bruce proves he is healthy and is the same hitter he was in 2017, his contract isnt expensive at all. Premium hitters get 30 million a year in 2019. Some team is going to scoff at 12 million AAV for 2 years for a 30-35 HR bat in their DH spot?? I seriously doubt it.. Obviously its a huge if that he can not only come back healthy and catch fire... and I also mentioned kicking in some money also if we had to.. but you knew that.
Wheeler has matured
Vanzetti : 8/15/2018 8:38 pm : link
Does not his best stuff tonight but still fighting and keeping the opponent off the scoreboard.

Well.. Wheeler is battling tonight at least...
ZGiants98 : 8/15/2018 8:41 pm : link
Something deGrom always gets praised for when he doesnt have his best stuff...
Gimenez
pjcas18 : 8/15/2018 8:55 pm : link
2 for 2 with a BB and an SB in 1st game tonight He's up to .329 in BING.

Small sample, but still better than I expected.
Nimmo
pjcas18 : 8/15/2018 9:05 pm : link
a HR shy of a cycle in the 6th.
Frazier
pjcas18 : 8/15/2018 9:20 pm : link
a 3B shy of the cycle in the 6th.
Hopefully

Yea I figured he'd have some adjustment period and hopefully flash enough to get a head start on a big year next year. Improving on his A+ numbers is impressive however you slice it. I wonder if maybe his A+ numbers were hurt by being on a crappy team. He led them in every offensive category. Bing isn't a murderers row but Toffey has been good, Nido, a few others. I can't believe Gimenez isn't a universal top 50 prospect right now.
Nimmo singles
pjcas18 : 8/15/2018 10:21 pm : link
in the 9th, 5 for 5 with a HBP so on base 6 times, but no cycle.
Flo gets in on the act

once a top 5 prospect in baseball. Top 2 by many publications.

TJS sucks.
Fun game to be at.

We were sitting in the LF bleachers very close to Nimmo. A bunch of knuckleheads started messing with him bc he was within earshot. He responded by having a great game at the plate. The dude behind me who was pretty vocal at first left pretty early and said, “I’m more of a football fan anyway.”
As long as Wheeler gets the required rest,
Beezer : 8/16/2018 3:39 pm : link
I don’t see the point in shutting him down. He’s a young guy, and outside of too-high pitch counts in single outings, I fail to see the logic in stopping him from simply going through a regular season and potentially strengthening, AND building confidence.
