Kershaw, Machado and Harper next year, something we wouldn't otherwise do.
A 50% tax on any revenue over the limit is a huge issue...the Yanks have paid about $320M in fines for being over the threshold over the years.
This team is just not good enough to survive in the playoffs as currently constituted; we need another ace (OR TWO if Sevy doesn't get his shit together) and power bats, whether in the form of Judge, Sanchez or someone else. And I haven't heard of any of those players being on the market at present. Free agency has the chance to take this team from really good to special. I hope we wait for that rather than bring someone in now who takes us over the cap.
They're getting under the threshold because they plan to have the flexibility to make some major signings in the future without going over Hal's budget.
I think The Yankees are far enough under the tax Â
to add a bat for 6 weeks. The whole salary isn't charged against them just the prorated portion of the season that's left. But maybe Happ, Lynn & Britton got them too close to be comfortable doing anything else. All of them are 13/12 million dollar players.
Right now next year they have 4 contracts that equal 88 million. Stanton, Ellsbury, Tanaka & Chapman.
Didi, Gray, Betances, Hicks, Kahnle, Torreyes, Severino, Romine & Bird are ARB eligible. This year combined they make about 25 million. Next year that number might be at least in the 40's.
Judge, Frazier, Greene, Holder and Sanchez make nothing. Add Wade and Montgomery if they're on the team and it's about 4 million for all of them.
I think that's 20 players that have a chance to be on 2019 Yankees before free agents. Some of course could be traded. I doubt any of those 20 will be released.
So let's say that's about 135 million in salary. Benefits count against the tax and I think they're about 12 million. So maybe 150 with Gardner's option? The tax next year is going up to 209 from 197.
Robertson, Britton, Happ, Lynn, Walker, Gardner (if they decline his option for 2M) are free agents once the season ends. They paid 6M for McCann and Headley to play elsewhere this year that's done in 2019.
So if Boston wins out and the Yankees crap out I'd be very worried about more dumb contracts coming our way. But I'd be happy to see a lot of Yankee money go into Manny's bank account to play 3B.
Tampa Bay received Shane Baz as the player to be named later in the Archer deal? That's a huge get for them. He is raw but he has a huge upside. Tampa has quite an impressive group of young pitching prospects.
stanton being on second is a fucking crime.....he was on second and the ball was just rolling in the outfield. easily should be on third, if not scoring if the ump doesnt make a shit call
if they actually build that new stadium and are even a medium revenue team they'll contend. They are run very smartly on the baseball side.
They are very good at scouting and developing their players. If they just had some money to spend they could be a very good team. It sucks for their fan base that nearly every good young player won't see a second contract.
Still can't believe the absolute heist they pulled on the Pirates Â
Kevin Cash does a bad job considering what he is given to work with. Every time he gets a player trending up and needing to get paid, he's traded. Cash may be ok with a well run organization although he grew up in Tampa so he may be happy.

This site should give you a fairly good idea of where they are. The number are probably not perfect, but definitely close.
Remember NOT to use the first tab, which is only the actual salaries, but the SECOND tab (Yankee Tax Tracker), which uses the AAV, which is used to compute luxury tax.
I would use a rounding error of $2M to be safe. So, the Yanks are probably between $5M- $9M under the luxury tax line- with the real number probably closer to $5M. Yankee payroll 2018 - ( New Window )

Bullshit.

Ump wants to call it a day, I see
Really no excuse not to. And Romo was really letting the ump have it on that 3 ball when it really wasnt even that close. Hes got some balls.
