Looking for opinions. I don't follow the college guys a ton - I ramp up my info intake weeks (OK, months) prior to the drat, and 90% of the info is from BBI conversations.
While I'm one of the biggest Eli fans on this site, the Giants' QB situation certainly intrigues me. I'm very happy to see #10 back with a chance to succeed and to cap his career in a positive way, and extremely thrilled to have drafted #26.
Will Grier (West Virginia QB) was on the Dan Patrick Show this morning. Impressive kid. But I don't know a lot about him ... what his potential upside might be ... all those things.
Some questions:
Is he a legit Heisman candidate? He's listed at 6-2 ... is 6-2 in a conversation about "lack of size?" Or is 6-2 the threshold where it's not a concern for the position? Also, what's the possible draft position for him?
There's the age question, as well. Grier will be 24 years old on draft day (and actually graduated last year, he said - definitely not a traditional college star). He's a married guy, with a young daughter. Might be concerns by some there, but he seems to be a responsible guy without some of the other possible distractions of a college guy. I've heard a few interviews and he seems mature and professional in his approach.
The hypothetical - It's too early to write off Davis Webb, and we know next to zero about Kyle Lauletta. But if the Giants were in the right spot, whatever that might be, and if their confidence was not high with Webb/Lauletta, can you see them pulling the trigger on a quarterback for the third straight season?
Interested in others' thoughts on this guy.

Size is fine height wise, he is a little on the lean side. Would like to see him add some bulk.
Grier gives a good blend of everything. Reminds me a bit of Derek Carr when he came out. Good mobility, real nice downfield accuracy, and a tough competitor. Really interested to see how these QBs establish themselves next CFB season. This is one of those years where no one has really established themselves as a clear cut above the rest. It could be anyone of Grier, Herbert, Patterson, Jackson, Stidham, or Lock. It could even be a guy starting his first year that no one would have thought.
They've combined for one half of football.
I think this comes from the Holmgren coaching tree where they believe it is beneficial to pick a QB every draft. You only have to hit on one so they believe in the numbers game. It doesn't have to be a high pick but they love their QBs. The Eagles love bringing in QBs ever since Reid was there. When Reid went to KC he'd always be looking to upgrade that position whether it was the starter or backup. I have no problem with that.
In a perfect world you want to hit on every draft pick so most people would say it is a waste of resources to continually draft at one position all the time and that may be accurate but QB is the most important position in all of sports. Philly has mastered this with trading off guys because they've had a plethora of QBs over the years and got great value back in return. NE did this but their QBs are more a product of the system and most haven't done anything outside of NE. Jimmy G has broken that trend though.
So, give me more QBs. Philly is in a great spot right now. If Wentz takes time and isn't ready week 1 then they have Foles who just won a SB. If Wentz is fully healthy then Foles is insurance. They can keep him this year, ride out the season just in case Wentz misses time, and still get a compensatory pick in 2020 that will probably be a third rounder. Or they could trade Foles when Wentz is healthy for something better than a third. The fact they got a first for Bradford tells me that they would probably get the same for Foles if a team is desperate. But that is only possible because they are extremely high on Sudfeld.
My point ... ALWAYS look to improve the QB position.
So, nevermind.

If I was Andy Reid and failed to find a replacement for Donovan McNabb, I would have given up on that drafting philosophy.
