Thought I would do something different since the Yanks are in a funk and there is some petty bickering among the faithful (faithless?).

Captain Jim Furyk and his co-captains need to make 4 picks to compete against the Europeans.

The link below has both US and European standings.

Top eight US are:
Koepka, DJ, Justin Thomas, Patrick Reed, Bubba Watson, Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler and Webb Simpson.
Pretty strong group, although Reed and Bubba have been cold recently. Good news is that a lot of the young guys are close friends so pairings should go well.

Captain's Picks - which four?
Jim Furyk needs to pick 4 players to fill out the field. Who do you think are the best of the rest?

I go with:
#9 Woods - pretty hot right now. Game seems to improve every time he enters a tournament.

#10) DeChambeau - Weird dude but good golfer - problem is he could rub people the wrong way although Woods apparently likes him.

#11) Kisner - has been in the heat the last few tournaments. Another of the young guys that seems to be there every week

12th man is a chore. I'd normally say Phil without batting an eye. But he has played like crap since the Masters, IMV. KUCHAR, while unspectacular is a steady pro. Tony FINAU has been looking better and better; big hitter and seems to have a great attitude and appears calm. Zach JOHNSON - a solid pro but short hitter; great short game and has played decently the last couple weeks; he's not likely to make a stupid mistake. Xander Schauffele - having a decent year and seems to lurk on the leader board, but.....

My mind says Finau or Kuchar.

I'll take Tony Finau. I think Furyk takes Mickelson.

Kirsner Johnson kuchar and woods
My 4...
GiantGolfer : 8/17/2018 9:24 am : link
Woods - obvious
Kisner - Has been playing well this year, and contending in majors.
DeChambeau - He's had a solid year, and his attitude is perfect for the Ryder Cup.
Xander - Young but has the mental toughness and about to breakout as a force on Tour.
Based on my recent viewing I'd say your top bets are

Koepka
Woods
Thomas
Fowler

Those guys are already on the team. This thread is speculation as to who the final 4 captains picks will be.
Sorry I thought it was

who is the playing the best right now.. I better read next time :)
I throw Tony and Phil in there
bhill410 : 8/17/2018 9:40 am : link
Tiger at this point is a lock IMO even with the fact he has never been excellent at match play. Tony since he is IMO the best of the rest and Phil because they will probably trot him out once in the first two days and they will want some type of Vet who relates to the younger guys (i.e. not Tiger). The 4th spot can go any which way to Sunday but I would guess Kisner or Kutch.

Schauffele - yeah he is in the mix. I'm all for new blood, even if they don't play all that much. So Xander or Tony would be good choices. Not sure if he is part of that Thomas, Fowler, Spieth, Simpson group but if he is it might work in his favor.
As an FYI these are the guaranteed European players
bhill410 : 8/17/2018 9:45 am : link
Francesco Molinari
Justin Rose
Tyrrell Hatton
Tommy Fleetwood
Jon Rahm
Rory McIlroy
Alex Noren
Ian Poulter

Pretty solid group as well although if it were a neutral group I would give the nod to the US. In Paris though, wonky things happen. Molinari and Fleetwood have obviously had excellent years and Rose/Mcllroy are Rose/Mcllroy but pure talent wise I just dont think they are as good as Dustin/Spieth/koepka/fowler/tiger right now. Ian Poulter may be the most annoying Ryder cup player in history. Just a mediocre golfer that thrives in the Ryder cup.

I would love to see Rahm and Dustin paired together and just watch them drop 400 yard drives on each other.

Weird to not see Garcia on that list.

Got married, pussy is more important!
I'd definitely bring Kisner
rsjem1979 : 8/17/2018 9:56 am : link
Guy is a bulldog, and was already part of the insanely good chemistry of last year's Presidents Cup team.

(Fun fact, during the Saturday afternoon session Kisner sat out, and spent an hour on the 4th tee box drinking a vodka cranberry, followed by two cans of Bud he had in his pockets.)

DeChambeau is really weird, and I don't know if anyone besides Tiger actually likes the guy. And on that subject, I wouldn't make any picks with Tiger in mind - with his back he's going to play once per day anyway (probably fourball so his driver doesn't kill us in alternate shot) so there's no need to let him choose his teammate. For the record, it would have been fine if DeChambeau made it ahead of Webb Simpson, who's had a nice year but I don't trust at all.

Phil is almost guaranteed to be there. I'd take Finau over Kuchar.
I'd go with
tangled up in blue : 8/17/2018 10:20 am : link
Woods

Kisner-----playing well and no quit in him

Finau------will be very good in 4 ball

and Snedeker, Phil, Bryson, Kuchar, Zack or
xander----whomever plays best during the playoff series

w
my 4 picks
Jeever : 8/17/2018 10:45 am : link
1. Woods (Tiger is Tiger)

2. Kisner (great putter)

3. Schauffle (Gotta get the next gen started early)

4. Zack Johnson (Another good putter)
I’d go
WillVAB : 8/17/2018 11:06 am : link
Woods
Rahm
Finau
Reed
I feel like the US should be
pjcas18 : 8/17/2018 11:07 am : link
favored looking at those lineups, is that true?

I'm far from a golf expert like some of you.

Scratch Reed (already included)
WillVAB : 8/17/2018 11:10 am : link
The last spot would be between Leishman and Dechambeau imv.

Marc Leishman is an Aussie.

Jon Rahm is Spanish.
Somebody please explain why
Marty in Albany : 8/17/2018 11:34 am : link
Tiger Woods' Ryder Cup record is:
Career Wins, Losses, Halves): 13-17-3

While Colin Montgomerie's record is: 20-9-7
(Is it because Colin is always matched up against Tiger? That's a joke, but so is Tiger's record at the Ryder Cup)

Well shit back to the drawing board.
Here you go
WillVAB : 8/17/2018 11:52 am : link
Woods
Dechambeau
Finau
Cantlay — very solid form over the last few months
I think Phil will be on the team
arniefez : 8/17/2018 1:35 pm : link
and Kisner will partner with him like they did at the Presidents Cup. I think Woods and Dechambeau will partner too. But Dechambeau's putting is a question mark.
I think you’d have to pick Finau
McNally's_Nuts : 8/17/2018 1:38 pm : link
the guy is a birdie machine and he bombs the ball.

He’d be an awesome alternate shot guy
What you all are missing
Stan in LA : 8/17/2018 2:01 pm : link
Is that the course for this event favors accuracy rather than bombing. So people like Kisner or Kuchar are more suitable than Finau or Woods(although Woods will be picked for ratings).
Yes, he will only be picked for ratings
UConn4523 : 8/17/2018 2:04 pm : link
not for being one of the top golfers the last couple of months.

And if bombing isn’t required isn’t that a plus for tiger who’s been fantastic without his driver?

You are all over the place.
Tiger has a sub .500 Record in Ryder Cup matches, but...
Crispino : 8/17/2018 2:28 pm : link
a winning record in singles matches. Should definitely be on the team given the fire and competitiveness he’d bring to the team, and given he’s been hot lately.
Marty, Tiger’s Record in singles is good, but bad when...
Crispino : 8/17/2018 2:32 pm : link
he has to team with someone else. Not surprising given his personality.
My Picks
pa_giant_fan : 8/17/2018 3:17 pm : link
Woods
Finau
DeChambeau
Kisner

Stan zeroes in on it again. Brilliant golf mind. Forget the sixth at the Open and the second at the PGA. Furyk (not at all part of the video broadcast or production) will pick Woods for ratings.
Phil and Furyk go way back
figgy2989 : 8/17/2018 8:17 pm : link
They played against each other college. He is definitely getting picked.
