B.J Hill the most valuable pick this draft

NYSports1 : 8/17/2018 9:38 am
This kid is going to be great for the Giants. The guy is already a starter and makes the Giants front line on defense impossible to run against. Great pick by DG
It's weird that the Giants might have hit on a 3rd round pick!

Not once but twice in Gettleman's first draft.
There's a reason
mittenedman : 8/17/2018 9:41 am : link
Chubb was able to be so disruptive off the edge.

Not to change subject but I was also very pleased with Dalvin Tomlinson. He looked great - built like a true 5T - and showed a nice blend of size, strength, speed and smarts. He's a handful and to my eye looks to have taken the jump you want from year 1 to year 2. Impact player alert.

He is not the best player we drafted as that is SB but the most valuable is Hill. Dude is not a pass rusher so the GIants need to find ways to generate a rush but he is stout and along with Snacks and Tomlinson the Giants are strong and stout up front.

Let's hope Beale is the third.

about a guy's potential too quickly. I'm glad to see this guy got a full preseason game under his belt before being declared a star.

Who said anything about a star?
Most valuable?
Doomster : 8/17/2018 10:42 am : link
Are you serious? After one preseason game?

More valuable the SB or Hernandez if he plays as hoped? I don't think so....
Most valuable
BillyM : 8/17/2018 10:46 am : link
I get your point about Hernandez and Saquon, but value also needs to take into account the round the player was picked in.

If you end up with a true starter, a potential stud in the third, the value is very high. I like all three guys, but the further down you get, the more the score matters.

To be fair, that's only because Josh Mauro is suspended for the first four games

Looks like another backhanded way of expressing your displeasure with the Barkley pick for the 800th time to me...
At least he's not the steal of the
pjcas18 : 8/17/2018 10:54 am : link
draft, that's the kiss of death.

I also agree with not letting these things play out before rolling out the superlatives, first impressions of rookie draft picks who play 1/4 of one pre-season game are often accurate.

That turned out to be a blessing. Either way, Mauro is on a one year deal. Hill is long term (presumably).

How is that a blessing? How do we know Hill will play better than Mauro?

Come on Mike. Let us feel good about a third round pick for a change. Snacks who I tend to believe, has been touting him constantly and he plays next to him.

"Most valuable" is not the same as "best value".

It's *impossible* to make any kind of meaningful value assessment of rookies after exactly one preseason game and barely two dozen practices...

We don't. But Mauro isn't Calias Campbell here. Get the young rook in and give him a shot. That's what they've done and guys ike Snacks have been impressed. What's not to like?

Mauro is pretty damn stout. Like you said, Hill is presumably the future, but this is also a win-now team and the veteran Mauro may be able to contribute more now than the rookie Hill. We'll see how Hill does in the first four games and then take it from there.
Wait what?
JerseyCityJoe : 8/17/2018 11:59 am : link
The kid has not played one meaningful snap. How about waiting until the bullets are flying before we decide who is valuable or not. Yikes

To be fair, there's a difference between being positive and... this.

How can anyone know that BJ Hill was the most valuable pick we made in this draft on August 17th? It's an insane proclamation to make at this stage and isn't based on anything.

I’m not sure about that. I think the staff is very surprised by how advanced Jill is at this point. Good chance he would have beaten out josh

I'd like for Hill to be

highly valuable. Let's reevaluate in 3 years.
Hill
TommyWiseau : 8/17/2018 5:59 pm : link
needs and should be getting the reps anyway with Mauro out. When Mauro comes back we get another body for the rotation to keep these guys fresh. He knows the defensive scheme already so it should be a easy transition for Mauro

I totally understand what you are saying here. I think Mauro will add a lot to the rotation when he returns: leader, fresh, etc.

But I think he'll be a back-up to the rookie Hill and that means Hill is outSTANding!
most valuable... hmm...
.McL. : 8/17/2018 7:08 pm : link
He may wind up having the best return on investment. But most valuable... Lets let these guys play a few games before we start determining value.

obviously, the way he played made him the most valuable player in the draft.....you can watch him again on NFL Network at 9AM....

Looks like a solid player. Showed good push last night. Deserves to start.

Like Carter (#59) too. He has some game too.
