All the qbs played well, actually. And that 17 play TD drive...not a thing of beauty at times, but several huge 3rd down conversions.
Outside of that long pass play to the rb, first defense played very well. A lot of pressure on the qb and they shut down the run.
I am outside of the NY area and was in the car for part of the game, and could only get the Lions radio call on SiriusXM. The Lions announcers commented on how the Giants were more physical in the trenches on both sides of the ball. When was the last time anyone said that about the Giants??
but wont get to watch until tomorrow am...how did Webb play live? Stat line looks solid
Led a solid 18 play drive that ended with a TD. Moved well to avoid the rush. Some on-point throws including a beauty to Shepard on 3rd and 17 to convert. Very solid night, a complete 180 from last week.

Great to hear thanks. Worth noting, second straight week with no turnovers right?
RE: RE: Yeah, I would say there were three players who didn't play well as a
of backup QB threads and telling Webb he should look into coaching.
To me, it wasn't about the stats he put up. It shows a lot that he was able to bounce back the way he did. He didn't look perfect out there. There are still areas where he needs to improve but that comes with experience and he is getting that. He had some beautiful passes and some off-target passes but almost all were catchable balls.
That is what I was saying last week. Last week was brutal. There is no denying that but there was really only one bad decision that he made last week and without seeing all the receivers it may not have been a bad decision but rather a late read. Now that his throws were on target you can see the growth.
My biggest compliment I can say about Webb tonight was just perseverance. I liked how he bounced back from that last game. I like how he bounced back from what was originally called a fumble.
On the flip side, Lauletta took a step back today. His throws were off where he missed two open receivers downfield. Again, it'll be a learning experience for him.
I have actually been surprised with Tanney. He throws a nice ball and does some nice things. If he is PS eligible then he can stay there if we need another QB. If not, I don't see anybody picking him up so he could be a guy that will always be available if we ever need him.
When I say one bad decision with Webb I mean with his reads.
I thought Hernandez did fine tonight. Not sure if Sy will agree.
And even though it may seem meaningless I liked seeing OBJ and SB sitting next to each other. If the O line is adequate and those two are on the field together, wow.
Yeah, Barkley, Gallman, and Martin seem like keepers. Stewart just doesn't seem like he adds much to this team. I get why he was brought in. But at the time a lot of fans didn't agree with the money he was getting. With that said, Gettleman's number one job this offseason other than getting a HC was changing the culture of this team. He did that in spades so far.

I didn't watch him but the one play where our running back got blown up in the backfield which I think was 4th and 1 it seemed like Hernandez was at fault. Banks called out the TEs but Hernandes doubled the nose with our center but never saw the LB. IMO, Hernandez should have picked up that LB up the middle. The double on the nose was pointless if a LB has a free run straight at the RB up the gut.
these week-long practices with another team, I think bring out the best in players. They won't again this pre-season, but I'd like to see it next year.
The right side of the Oline is very troublesome.....
Both Omameh and Flowers blew blocks. I really think well have to help more on the right side with TEs and RB chips. There doesnt appear to be competition there right now. I suppose that will be addressed next off-season. LBer coverage is also lacking, but to be fair, theres not many LBers that are covering Theo Riddick well. Other teams will definitely be attacking the middle of the field unless we can somehow get that fixed. Other then that, I thought it was a very competitive effort by the Giants. A good game, even for pre-season.

The line held up well on those third down and long plays, including the right side. Im not sure they were as bad as their worst play.
So it's hard to evaluate talent. However, I felt Gus Edwards (currently UDFA with Ravens) was a noticeably better player in the backfield last year. That said, I can see Martin carving a niche for himself in the NFL over the next 5 years as a backup complimentary back. He has some skills which look like they translate to that role in the NFL.
I don't even watch Guard play, but I did notice that Omameh whiffed
A week makes. Tonights game put a smile on my face. We still had some issues with the line, but on defense I was very impressed. I also believed that our wide receivers had a very very good game.
Didn't cost 13m/yr for a reason, we didn't sign a clean lineman on a Walmart contract. He's part bandaid, part spec. He can run block but has some issues pass blocking, maybe with some untapped potential. We can't ignore that we may need to replace him in the near future if he doesn't progress. That's fine though, our line was such a mess that it required a 2 year rebuild.
the right side of the line and olegtree are the biggest cause of concern. The right side of this line could keep us from being a top offense. Also not impressed at all with Halapio would like Jones to get in there.

The right side of the OL will have TE Ellison assigned to help on most snaps.
As for OC Hilapio, well, he better workout or at least show enough to be a top backup off the bench. B. Jones is no STAR but may be more effective with his technique.
God forbid the starters on the OL get hurt else Eli will be running for his life or just chucking the ball again in 2.7 seconds like last year, league's fastest.
(...with an assist from Patrick Omameh), but he got his shit together and looked better after that. At times, he had help from the TE or RB, but he managed to stay on his man for the most part.
I guess that's progress.
ps once again, the Giants ran well and stoned the run.
I actually think he's more like a young Eli. From far away they kind of look similar. Both are reportedly very smart and hard working. Both have all of the physical tools. Both are inconsistent with their accuracy and can have Jekyll and Hyde type performances.
Eli learned to cope and was very successful on some of the better Giants teams. Hopefully, if Webb can continue to progress, he will be capable of having similar success.

Flowers is a waste product, complete garbage. Watching him, one would think hes never stepped on a practice field. He refuses to learn the correct way to play the position.

ogletree will be fine, you are concerned over 1 play where maybe 1 or 2 linebackers in the entire league would be able to make?
He played tonight with easily his 2 best weapons on the sideline. He showed poise in the pocket. He took hits, he scrambled nicely and he showed very nice arm strength. A few balls came out a little wobbly which he needs to improve on but, this version is a very good start as your backup QB. He was by far from perfect but he was confident, efficient and he was a leader last night.
The OL made a few mistakes it almost caused a turnover they need to get it corrected but overall I thought the OL did their job 1st and 2nd teams. They have our R s holes and have the QBs time to make plays. It was so satisfying watching this team finally play a complete game. Offense, Defense, Special Teams. Really was not much to bitch about last night. Go Blue!

Agreed, if the D calls for Ogletree to be covering Theo Riddick in the slot I put that more on Bettcher.

you double the nose a lot when you bring in multiple TE's and have a short yardage situation. He was most likely following his assignment.
we also called timeout becuase we couldnt get the set right then came back out showing the same look giving the defense a chance to jump the play
This was the best top to bottom Giants performance in a long time
Watching Lions Giants and I am confident it does not matter what side tackle Erik Flowers lines up on--the defense will put their best rusher over him. Not good

I agree with that but if he's at RT at least Eli will be able to see that rusher coming.
I think he gets held more since any player since Strahan without getting calls...
Ereck Flowers
Mike Jones
Grant Haley
The rest of the team played overall very well. Some better than others, of course, but I was very pleased with tonight's performance.
Most of the last group of DBs really sucked. Couldn't tackle even when they had decent coverage.

Agreed. Leonard Johnson made a few nice plays, but Haley, Jones, Lewis-Harris and Chandler didn't really play well.

So we shouldn't contact the E! Network about a Cutler trade?
Good to see Webb bounce back, and cheers to the offense for finally putting a 30 spot on the board :)
Its the same position. In the game now RT and LT are basically the same position. You face elite pass rushers on both sides
Other than that
Flowers
Jones
Haley
Raymond
Had bad games.
The only real worry is Flowers. It looked like Scott, Greco, and Wheeler played well against Lion reserves.
That was the center. He was calling for the ball about 5 secs before the clock ran out....

The time management at the end of the half was an issue as well.

He had a great add Year at Rutgers. He had some injuries and their wee major coaching issues under Flood. Hes got NFL level talent
But Flowers...man, Ellison is going to have live next to him this season
Wynn
DL overall
QBs overall
Showed good stuff
JStew
Sharp
LBs
backup DBs
Leave a bit to be desired

...Webb and Lauletta. That's refreshing!
Also, Lauletta in particular looks very smooth stepping around the pocket and finding soft spots!
And give it up to Webb in particular for some beautiful throws dropped right into the bucket!
Tanney looked good as well! Heck, all three back-ups looked pretty good!
Eli learned to cope and was very successful on some of the better Giants teams. Hopefully, if Webb can continue to progress, he will be capable of having similar success.

This team looked well coached and its along time since Ive been able to say that.
This is the beginning of the effects of the new staff and administration.
