Another day of crossing our fingers that Sevy can figure it out. If he struggles again today they 1000% have to give him a couple weeks off to get a little rest and get right.

The short game last night helped save some of the pen, so that was good. Another pitcher we have no excuse not to put runs up on.

Let's get another W here.

first.
Probably the best lineup we can field right now.
Eman11 : 8/18/2018 12:49 pm : link
Here's hoping Gleber starts driving it the other way and not try to pull everything, and that gets him back to being the hitter we know he is.

That and hoping Sevy gets his groove back.

If those happen or at least show signs in that direction, I think we might all breathe a little easier.

That slider back, Sevvy!
How can they rest Severino while CC is out?
Greg from LI : 8/18/2018 1:14 pm : link
They're already scraping the bottom of the barrel for starts.
Since they are in a delay
superspynyg : 8/18/2018 1:31 pm : link
debate time...

So from what you have seen since he has been back and with his injury history IYO is Greg Bird still the answer at 1b or do the Yanks need to find a replacement next year?

Adams?

Hopefully it's a moot point. I just don't see how they can keep sending him out there if he keeps getting belted.

He looks okay ~10 pitches in - so, let's hope this is the one where he gets back on track.
Huzzah! A scoreless first inning!
Greg from LI : 8/18/2018 1:39 pm : link
Re: Bird....I don't know if he is or isnt the answer but they can't simply pencil him in as the starter next season. There has to be legitimate competition for the job, and not Luke Voit or some other Quad A player.

Severino with 100 pitches

in the 6th? While he started with a SO in the 6th, that is a lot of pitches to start the 6th against a shitty team. Better than the last 6 games, but still not good.

just nothing out of Kahnle this season

jeez.
Any questions why Kahnle was in
section125 : 8/18/2018 3:45 pm : link
the minors so long? Fucker cannot throw a strike.... 1 year he put it together and then reverted to why the Yanks dumped him to begin with....
Walker
RasputinPrime : 8/18/2018 3:48 pm : link
basically gives up three runs by completely mis-playing a ball he either should have caught or should have held to a single.

8-5
Walker completely crapped the bed in RF there...
shockeyisthebest8056 : 8/18/2018 3:48 pm : link
from a laugher to having to use Betances and Chappy probably.

Yeah, Walker absolutely blew that.
Hopefully Romine is't hurt bad

an extended stretch og Higgy is not apealing. If so Cash needs to get a major league C here by Tuesday
love Bird
RasputinPrime : 8/18/2018 4:02 pm : link
but hate watching him this season. Bad approach at the plate too often and bad defense. He catches that, as most decent 1B would, and Smoak is out on a great play by Didi.
Kahnle looks toasty this season.
Dave in Hoboken : 8/18/2018 4:02 pm : link
Hope Romine isn't out long. Or, hopefully Sanchez could come back sometime this century.
Bird
MookGiants : 8/18/2018 4:03 pm : link
isn't nearly good enough at the plate to also suck in the field
Brutal season for Bird thus far.

Agreed but he has the rest of the year to turn it around. All will be forgiven if he does.

These next several weeks should tell us what he's made of. Either he works to get better or hangs his head. Hopefully that nice swing and HR is the start of turning it around.
Itd be nice if Higgy
chopperhatch : 8/18/2018 4:39 pm : link
Could lock down the back up spot by keeping up the bat. If I recall he is a far better defensive catcher. His only issue was woefully bad offensive production.

He's shown flashes before. He has to keep it going, which is something he hasn't been able to do thus far.

Yeah I agree with you there as well.

It's too late to make up the whole season numbers we were hoping for from him but I'm just hoping he gives us some consistency the rest of the way. Be the player we were hoping for from here til the season ends.

As good as the A's have been over the past couple months, I just don't think the A's can keep up with the Astros once Altuve and Springer come back. I think it will be like when the Yanks get Judge and Sanchez- big boost to the team.

A's probably win the second wild card spot, but I think the Astros pull away in September.

Springer is already back. I know he played last night but not sure if that was his first game back or if he was back the game before.

I don't know when they expect Altuve back though.
