Assuming no injuries, who will be the RT by midseason?

AcidTest : 8/18/2018 12:54 pm
Your choices:

A. Flowers.
B. Wheeler.
C. FA pickup after final cuts.

My vote: C.
Probably C

But regardless, Ellison is going to have live next to whoever plays there
I think if Flowers

Shows any development he'll get the nod.
I'd be surprised if it wasn't Flowers.

Gettleman and Shurmur inhereted a shitty situation. He was overdrafted and will probably never be a "plus" player. Problem is there were a dozen or more other issues to fix in the roster, and they're not all going to get addressed in one season. I find it very unlikely that a better option will shake free in cut downs. We're stuck for another year.
On the bright side

After his initial issues with Solder being brought in, it seems like Flowers has grown a bit and is working hard. There have been pieces about him working wth Solder after practice, etc. And although it's a very small sample size there actually has been some improvement. It feels impossible after watching the struggles but who knows, maybe by mid season he's a serviceable OT. I don't know about anyone else but I'd take "average" and run with it, considering what we've seen, by and large, since 2011 with the OL.

I think we would all be thrilled with average play from Flowers.

they put a cowboy collar on him and attach straps to the back of his helmet and the back of this collar so he can't put his head down.
Flowers

He is the best RT on the roster. And it is really not even close.

See. Flowers has a tough test early on against Dallas and Jacksonville's d-lines.
they will be looking for a veteran
Paulie Walnuts : 8/18/2018 2:28 pm : link
back up and drafting a OT in rd 1-2 in 2019 depending on Webb or Lauletta progress

Most likely Flowers
robbieballs2003 : 8/18/2018 2:30 pm : link
Wheeler looks awful on the right side. I think he looks better on the left.

We definitely need OT help but it may be tough to get even though we sit at number two on the waiver order. Cleveland is ahead of us and has questions at OT as well.
Right now (things change drastically over the year)
robbieballs2003 : 8/18/2018 2:32 pm : link
Next year we have to really look for OL (OT in particular), ILB, corners, and safeties. Hopefully the draft is rich in talent at those positions.
I don't have an answer. Ol talent is very thin league wide.

I don't like Flowers, but I don't see that there will be better options available.
Flowers was going to be a huge question mark....
Doomster : 8/18/2018 2:48 pm : link
So far, the same mistakes are prevalent....

Couple nights ago, I saw the Patriots put a TE next to their rookie RT(who later injured his achilles)......the TE engaged the DE and then went out for a pass, making it easier for the rookie RT....something Mcadon't never thought of....
Flowers. He gave up a sack, but otherwise looked competent

The entire right side. They all need to play better.

if we're lucky. The Giants really need to be aggressive with the waiver wire in two weeks. Any competent ILBs DBs and OTs need to be claimed.

Does the claiming order stay the same no matter how many claims the Giants make? If they claim 5 players at the same time are they #2 for all 5 players?
Flowers has improved but
TMS : 8/18/2018 4:30 pm : link
will be a problem all year at that position. We are in a bind, because he will be targeted because the rest of our offense looks very sound. The weak link is him, and he will be facing teams best pass rushers all year. Not good news for us or him.
Flowers. He is doing a great job and will get better.

No one on this roster is any better, our depth is attrocious. I do believe we’ll add a tackle after cuts, but I think that person replaces Wheeler, Becton and Gates.

With that being said, Bunche looks like he has a chance to step up, but he won’t crack the starting line up.

If flowers is the best the nyg can come up with: awful technique, at his postition has dire ramifications for a 37 year old qb.....flowers is, on many plays, head down, feet planted, arms flailing....no more imposing than a nyc subway turnstyle.

Q: Did Ereck Flowers have a problem with Lions LB Devin Kennard?

A: No, I don’t think so. I thought Ereck did a good job last night.
More important question who will be the strating C week ! vs Jax.....
Torrag : 8/19/2018 10:25 am : link
...because Halapio has been dreadful so far. In a handful of series my group of Ginats friends that watch the games have plotted at least six blown plays. A combination of misreads on who he should be blocking or flat out getting beat one on one. It's time for Jones to run with the 1's. The Halapio experiment is a failure.

I just posted this in another thread. He's the best RT on the team, unfortunately.

We have no cap space to go out and get a guy to replace him.

Hopefully he will play well and go on to continue his career on another team next year.
Flowers blew the block on the Webb fumble that was ruled
GeofromNJ : 8/19/2018 1:32 pm : link
an interception, but from thereafter, he did okay. He's a better run blocker than a pass blocker, but I think he'll get better at both as the season moves along. Barring injury, he's our guy at RT.
Flowers
MotownGIANTS : 8/20/2018 9:17 am : link
is better ... the issue is not talent but consistency ... but by moving to the right he is now facing an less athletic opponent on avg so that helps but only a small bit (its the NFL) ... but the more he gets used to the flip he'll make less mistakes ... he will always make mistakes he just is not "OCD" enough about his technique ...
Jerry was taking some snaps at RT

in preactice. I wonder what happened with that experiment
