Sorry but did not know who to ask so I thought I would ask your guys/girls. I am From NYC, Sunnyside Queens. Very high Irish population. Taking a trip to England, Scotland and Ireland nd wanted to know if anyone had any recommendations on places to see. We can’t see everything but am looking for “must see” places. thanks in advance.
The Highlands were my favorite thing in Scotland. I liked Edinborough too. Cool city.
After that we stayed in Kinsale, just outside of Cork. It’s a port town so really good seafood there. We also went to Blarney Castle from Kinsale.
We finished up in Dublin for 4 nights, which I thought was two nights too many. Dublin’s cool but ultimately it’s another European city. Temple Bar is a really fun area though.
Also been to London but to me that’s another European city. Good time but I wish we were able to explore outside the city. Haven’t been to Scotland yet but it’s on the list.
Also, tour St. Paul's Cathedral, and the Tower of London.
Outside the city, Take the short trip out to Widsor Castle and do the tour out there. The Abbey there is beautiful. See if you can find out in advance if there is a changing of the guard that day at the castle. It is much better than at Buckingham Palace.
I don't strongly recommend Stonehenge. I went, but it honestly wasn't that interesting.
I loved the city of Bath . Beautiful ancient Roman city. Very cool. Have a good trip.
Auto correct!😡
I went to Glaslow when in college, but I was so drunk that trip I don't really recall much. :)
I would suggest that a nice walk is starting for Oxford Circus, a major shopping area, go down Regents Street (the high end shopping district) to Picadily Circus (another famous square). Then keep going down Regents and it eventually hits the road that Buckingham Palace is on. Go see the Palace, then follow the roads around to your left and you'll come up on Westminster Abbey and Big Ben.
Finally see a play in the West End (think off Broadway). There are something like 200 playhouses, with famous plays and actors.
My 5 favorite things to do that I have done - I have so much still to see in London/UK:
1. Tower of London (white tower my favorite)
2. Museum of London (some medieval displays that are very cool)
3. Buckingham Palace (thought it would be boring, it wasn't)
4. The eye, yeah so what a Ferris Wheel, it has an unbelievable view (Big Ben, Parliament), they serve booze, and I like ferris wheels
5. Churchill War Rooms (I practically had to get dragged here and didn't want to leave, fascinating - just a couple hours, but I will never forget them)
Plus the food is great, I thought it was all rancid beef and fish 'n chips, but the food in London is great - expensive - the whole city is expensive - but I was impressed with the steak, the Italian food, the Indian food, etc. and the fish n' chips were of course great.
Never been to Ireland other than our Cork work facility and did zero site seeing or Scotland, but both are places I'd like to go.
