Things that stood out the most about #Giants vs. #Lions:
1. This is a great scheme for Webb to learn in. PA heavy offense is good for him. Underrated mobility helps too on bootleg PA.
2. The #run defense is BACK. Might be better than 2016 version.
3. The defense is going to get pressure. Scheme is set up that way and Vernon is now fully healthy and seeing the most 1-on-1 matchups of his career.
4. The defense will also give up big plays. Bad matchups all year with Ogletree in coverage vs. RBs and whoever in the slot vs. top slot WR.

5. The O-line is definitely improved in the run game. Hard to watch these first two weeks and not say that. Pass pro is still up in the air. Haven't been tested enough.
6. Ereck Flowers is improving, but there's a limited ceiling to expect from him in pass protection

7. Wayne Gallman is looking more and more like a rare late-round find for Jerry Reese. Yards after contact via the interior, ability to force missed tackles, route running, sure hands. He has those tools. Just missing the 40-yard time. The least important trait for a RB

8. Robert Martin and Jalen Simmons have got juice. Good finds by the #Giants here at RB. Both players still battling for that No. 4 job. Will come down to special teams.
9. Cody Latimer has the upside to help this offense. Watch his 15-yard catch tonight + strong training camp

10. For those who worried about WR depth this offsesaon, I mentioned Shurmur's scheme will use more 12, 21, and 13 personnel. That plays a role, but they're fine depth-wise. Latimer and Russell Shepard could play quality snaps in a pinch. They've got four they can trust for sure.

11. I can't wait to watch the game pass and focus on the first-team O-line. Also, want to see Greco on the 2nd-team. He's a sleeper to make an impact in 2018 at some point.

13. It wasn't the Kyle Lauletta show tonight, and he missed some throws he should have hit, but I liked what I saw overall. Moves the pocket well, moves in the pocket well calm with "quiet feet", keeps his eyes downfield. Seen enough to know I like the gamble of using a Rd 4 pick

14. Olivier Vernon is going to be REALLY good in this scheme and the Giants need him to be. He's finally healthy again and the hope is he won't have to gruel through another 95% of the snaps type deal.

16. Ray Ray Armstrong is a LB & #8294;& #8234;@Tmanic21& #8236;& #8297; and I talked about on the latest Big Blue Banter pod about getting more PT. He makes plays and he's in that moneybacker mold for DC James Bettcher. Could be interesting to see if he plays more if Ogletree continues to struggle vs. RBs/TEs.

17. Kerry Wynn is maybe the greatest Giants preseason player of the modern era. But what if he's found a defensive scheme that best fits his skill set and he can also be a part of the D-line rotation?

19. Curtis Riley got the start at FS and we didn't hear much from him aside from a blitz he got picked up on. That's not a bad thing. The Giants safeties did a much better job taking angles to the ball than vs. the Browns
20. QBs don't like to throw in Janoris Jenkins' direction

21. Romeo Okwara should not be ruled out as part of the roster and rotation. After being moved to outside linebacker, we knew it could be a transition. His sack vs. the Lions was a big play that will help him. But it's very crowded on the Giants depth chart at OLB, DE, DT.

22. Lorenzo Carter needs to learn a few more pass rush moves, but you can't teach his burst around the edge. The sack (that somehow got called back due to the NFL's awful new rule) was an incredible display of that burst. He also made an excllent stop in coverage. Keeper

The Lions may have lost LB and special teamer Steve Longa for the season. The fear is Longa, spotted by reporters wearing a bulky brace, tore his ACL last night vs Giants, source said. He’s getting an MRI to determine the final result.

Keim ESPN Washington: Free agent running back Orleans Darkwa will be among those participating in a tryout at Redskins Park Sunday, a source said. The Redskins need to add another back thanks to several injuries. Both Samaje Perine (ankle) and Byron Marshall (ankle) both will miss time with injuries and Derrius Guice already is out for the season with a torn ACL. They also waived/injured running back Martez Carter, leaving them with three healthy bodies in practice Saturday.
