I believe under TC he either played the first few series or first quarter of Game 1, into the 3rd for game 2, most if not all of game 3 and rested for game 4.
QB guru Shurmur knows what he’s doing and unlike with TC, he’s got some viable longer term options at QB he needs to assess in action. Of course, Eli is older now so there’s that.
No real point here other than as an observational one
Totally agree and to me, unimportant, especially with Shurmur at the helm. It’s just that I can’t ever recall Eli being so game limited through all the years, nothing more than that. Perhaps my memory is faulty

And that is fine but why did the fans revolt then....Only a stupid fan would have thought that Geno was going to start all games for the rest of the season. Webb confirmed that the plan was for him to get the final 3 starts. Why did the fans revolt that led to where we are today

Terrible. Once again, terrible.
totally agree...
Many starters sat out.
Brees
Ben
Carr
Goff
I think there were a few more as well.
Minimal practice, missed time for a few of the big guns, and coming off a terrible season, I could see the argument to play the starters a little more.
Agreed, but note Belichick hasn't implemented a brand new system or come off a double-digit loss season in more than 15 years.

The fans revolted because Webb was not activated and was getting no extra work or any significant work at all in practice. It was obvious to anyone except you that this was not McAdoo's plan at all. McAdoo's plan was to try to win with Geno Smith. If he planned to use Davis Webb this way, he would have said so at the outset. He also would have benched Eli UNTIL Webb was ready to be activated.
Fans would understand benching Eli for Webb. They revolted at the idea of benching Eli for Geno Smith, which is exactly what McAdoo was doing.
Quote:
When BM told Eli he can start all games but second half he was going to give Webb the ball to get a look? Geno only got 4 qts because Eli refuse to accept this. If he had then Webb would have seen last 3 games second half action as Geno was only going to get that second half of Raider game because Webb needed a week worth of snaps with first team.

That should say " ... would NOT have benched Eli UNTIL Webb was ready ..."
Shurmur said in a recent press conference that is the exact reason Eli didn't get snaps in the preseason game, he saw enough during the practices.

- Week 1 - 1 or 2 series
- Week 2 - anywhere from 2 series to a quarter
- Week 3 - a half
- Week 4 - No play or a series
I think that the way Webb played week 1 probably made Shurmur want him to either start the game or to see him in extended action.
Eli had a great week in the scrimmages so he really did not need the game time reps and it was safer.
Keep Eli upright and OBJ off the field.

Which McAdoo and even TC were wont to do. imo

That’s how I would do it

He knows what’s up. He knows the offense, let him coach up the younger guys and keep himself ready for week 1
Last year, he didn't even play 3 quarters total in preseason.....
This year, we have different players at each OL position, a new RB, a new WR, and new offensive system, and Eli doesn't need the work?
We need to be ready for that Jaguar Defense.....

wrong or even particularly note-worthy about the QB snaps through two. A heck of a lot more important to see the other guys get time, as opposed to Eli.

“Whatever coach thinks we need. [But] I think you want to be out there and playing just to get a feel for him calling the plays and the game plan,” said Manning, who said his arm and body both feel great.
