looking for some game night options with the wife and/or friends. There’s a ton out there, it seems like they are making quite the comeback, so I don’t know where to start. Reading reviews online and found a few that are intriguing. I think my main criteria is something that can be finished in 1-2 hours tops and makes you think but isn’t extremely strategic or confusing.
Ticket to Ride
The first can be a bit complicated the first time you play. The second is easy for anybody to pick up. Both are fun
Countless others are out there, but they often have genres like fantasy, "Lovecraftian", etc.
How about card games? My wife found a couple that I thought were fun, and with a group, could be a really good time. The first is called Exploding Kitties and the second is Sushi Go. She found them both on Amazon, and they are both easy to learn, fast paced and with just enough strategy to be challenging. Also, won't interfere with table conversations.
My personal favorite is Splendor. It's really easy to pick up, after one game everyone will totally get the hang of it, and it's really fun. Ticket to Ride is another favorite. We played Codenames the other night. it's fun, but it depends a lot of knowing the other person and being really creative with wordplay.
For a coop games, I'd recommend Pandemic. It's a little bit more involved though, and if someone doesn't grasp it, the whole group suffers.
I think you mean Apples ro Apples.
Which is a great game.
Love connect four for some quick games.
There is a game called Dirty Minds that is pretty funny. There is a word and it is described using dirty phrases and the other person has to guess what it is. For example:
I love to move in and out and in and out.
I make you foam at the mouth.
What am I?
The answer is a toothbrush.
"It's just skin, Steven!"
Correction: "Qwirkle"
Settlers of Catan is another. Non-violent, must make trades with other players. Social game.
Let me add an oldy but goody: Acquire. Easy to learn, can play with a lot of people and cheap. I think you can pick up a copy for $15.
Well, it's more like 75 drinking, 20 Candy Land, and by the way the floor is molten lava. -Schmidt
It's actually 90% drinking and then it's got a loose Candy Land-like structure to it. -Winston
Also I am big fan of "What Did you Meme?"

Center. Center.
"It's just skin, Steven!"
I was wondering if anybody would remember that.

I’ve been looking that up and found the duets version as well. It would most likely be just the 2 of us so I’m leaning towards giving it a shot. The full game is really meant for teams, right?

Codenames is great, everything you want in a game.

Yea, it's meant for teams of two, but they have directions in the game for modifying it if you just want to play with 2 people. I'd say it's probably less fun, but it's still a fun game.
I would say it's probably not a good game for 2 players. But the fewest I've played with is 3. It's ideal for 4-5, IMO
