Digging RB Robert Martin. 4.57 40 time. He shows some shiftiness. Some jacked out cuts in training camp... That bounce outside in the Lions game... Tore his ACL back in high school and has come all the way and then some.
Of a younger, less powerful Alfred Morris. Not great timed speed, but makes sharp cuts without any hesitation and is always pushing forward, no wasted motion. I hope they dont try to sneak him onto practoce squad, i dont think he makes it there.
He showed NFL protenial early. Injuries and a two really bad hires at OC and runningbacka coach by new HC Ash a few years ago hurt Martin.
He and Josh Hicks looked like both would be NFL bound. He’s got great feet. Not a huge kid but will run inside and outside w good wiggle and a good burst. IMO he’s a kid you want on the roster as I can see a team thin at RB grabbng him I’d he winds up on the PS. He can also return kicks.
SO far in the 2 preseason games. Should get even more PT this week with Simmons in concussion protocol, as Martin was behind Simmons in terms of game time the past 2 games.
Really reminds me of a Bradshaw-type of player. Apparently he's done well in the limited pass blocking scenarios, but need to see more as well as his pass catching abilities. Shurmur wont play RBs that cant catch.
if you can only keep 3 RBs on the roster, it should be Barkley, Gallman & Martin. I wouldn't press to keep Stewart here with the young talent.
You can NOT cut Stewart, a 10-year vet, based on two preseason games. For starters, that move would be a three million dollar cap hit. Second, Stewart has value in the RB room. He has seen almost everything the NFL can throw at you, on and off the field. With Barkley (rookie) and Gallman (2nd year), you need a veteran voice and mentor. Stewart knows how to take care of himself. He has experience playing in this system. He is also the best candidate for short yardage back. If you want to keep Martin it means four RBs or the practice squad, cutting Stewart should not be an option.
Think we wait till see more before we pull that trigger. Young promising RB versus proven solid veteran who will bring loads to the locker room. Tough call now. We will see how it plays out. Thinking Barkley changes everything when he starts to roll. But now Martin looks a very valuable commodity.

Maybe the Giants can red shirt/IR either Martin or Simmons if need be.

Also Rutgers alum. Keep the Rutgers kid. Good PR
Statistically it is highly unlikely he would be picked up Â

I agree with your points except the cap hit one.
They take the hit regardless of if he's on the team or not. ( In fact I think they might save a few hundred grand if he is cut) It's sunk money at this point and if he gets beat out by a better player, he gets beat out. The cap hit really shouldn't have anything to do with it because they get it either way.

Not a chance. Have you seen the Pats RB roster?

The outlier exception might be a team that had been hot to sign him but were beaten to it by us.
Not the end all and be all, but the 40 time is rather pedestrian by today's standard.

Financially, we are committed to him. We would look stupid if we cut him. Oh well....
I'm actually more worried that he would make it to the PS, some team has 2 RBs go down with injuries by Week 4 and THEN they sign him.
