Hey,
Anyone have advice for getting a lower contract from Verizon? I'm currently paying $235 and they are offering $183 for a two year contract.
How much of a discount can I get if I tell them I'm cancelling service in order to switch to Optimum?
Any help would be appreciated.
Technically you can still "move" if you have an etf, but you will have to pay it. I did it to get upgraded to there 1gig plan earlier this year.
Now, I'm thinking about whether I really need HBO and Showtime (I don't) and am considering dropping them - I barely ever watch them.
Not ready to totally cut the cord as we do watch a variety of things and (at least as of now) the sports coverage isn't as good, but until then I'm with you and continually looking for ways to shave the bill. If you get a good customer service rep, he or she will help you.
I meant a $15 or $20/month credit.
How much are you guys paying each month?
TIA

I have to look, but around the same as you. It's too much, especially with all the other options out there.
2 years no contract.
This is gonna be tough for Verizon to beat.
That being said I think I prefer Verizon all things being equal.
Went through with the cancelation, one week later they called and offered the intro rate. Now I have triple play for $127. (87+20 for dvr, 10 for extra box, and taxes) Gigabit internet is insane. I may drop TV and land-line and just stream.
If it’s a guy, he appreciates the pain. If it’s a woman, she appreciates your thoughtfulness. Call them by their name “hey X, I need you to help me out. My wife just saw the bill, and went nuts on me. She had no clue how much we pay for everything. Anyway, she called XYZ company and they offered her ABC packs for $x. I’ve been with you for X years and really, really don’t want to switch. What can you do for me, so I can convince her not to make a mistake and switch to XYZ?”
Works like a charm. Every time.
But I'm stuck til April.
Charter removed $15 in promos from my account. I asked for them to be reinstated. Charter refused. So, I left them.
3 weeks later I'm getting flyers in the mail for $60 in promos! If you value your money, just leave. You'll get a much better offer once you do.
$235/ month is highway robbery. It's that sort of apathy that makes these companies richer than they deserve to be.
If you can't part ways with things like HBO or your landline, then nothing to say except that you're stuck paying what you're paying.
Still stuck with Spectrum for internet though.
They are doing this in response to Netflix, Amazon, etc.
I do not plan to threaten them with leaving because I do not want to go back to Comcast which sucked.
Anyone have any experience with Optimum? How's the internet speed etc?

Your best option is to play "The Game" and switch cable providers every two years with FIOS and Optimum. This way, you always get the new customer discounts locked in for 2 years at a time.
Paying $200 for FIOS is ridiculous!
Verizon FIOS new customer deal for Gigabit Internet, TV and Phone is $79.99 locked in for 2 years.
Optimum new customer deal for 200 MB Internet, TV and Phone is $89.99
If you're willing to switch every two years, you would be saving a ton with their new customer packages.

To upgrade the TV package they wpuld force me to upgrade the entire tdiple play at about $40 more per month. To simply add a sports package, it would also run about the same because regional spkrts broadcasting fees (or something to that effect) are tacked on.
I can save money and get more channels plus DVR plus faster advertised speeds, but Spectrum sucks. When I had Time Warner, my cable went out once a month and interned was kut every 2-3 weeks. Granted, it's usually just for a few hours. But, in a few years with FiOS, I've had cable go out once and reboot the modem once (the router a couple of times).
