Postgame at Jets
Q: What did you think of the defense tonight?
A: I think the first, probably like third down, we started a tad bit slow. As the game started progressing, I felt like we started to pick it up a little bit later. We just got to start fast.
Q: What happened on the play where you pushed (Jets QB) Sam Darnold? Was that a result of the helmet rule change?
A: Yeah, I wasn’t trying to get no fine. He had great balance on that one. I literally thought he was going to throw it away after getting close to him. But yeah, it’s preseason.
Q: Regular season, you would’ve approached that differently?
A: Yeah, probably.
Q: What did you think about the performance of rookie QB Sam Darnold?
A: I think he did pretty good. He was connecting on some throws. He’s pretty impressive – taking off running when he felt that pressure in the pocket. His pocket awareness is pretty good.
Q: Do you think he’s further along than most rookie quarterbacks?
A: I think he did a great job. We just got to see how he does throughout the season. But, I think he has a bright future.
Q: Do you feel like this defense is ready to head into the regular season?
A: We’re going to find out game one.
Q: How do you feel about your guys’ run defense?
A: I feel there’s certain things we still have to fix. But for the most part, as long as we start fast, I feel like we’ll be alright.
Q: It seems like you’re in the backfield every play. Do you feel as if you’re getting more pressure than you usually get in the preseason?
A: I’m just trying to make something happen. (Defensive Coordinator James) Bettcher wants us to be aggressive. So, I’m just playing my part.
