I know he is taking the heat because of the penalties but the entire OL is not playing well still. Barkley has been met in the backfield on all of his runs. Hernandez got destroyed too.

then you had better call that on every down...
He threw him to the ground. That usually gets the call.
Ereck's hands were outside the shoulder pads. Normally, not called, but his actions caused Campbell's hips/upper torso to twist (that is the hold). Throwing him to the ground didn't help. Flowers has to accept that he has a target on his back after the roundhouse kick earlier.
I Know most hate the call but imo its good., OBJ can score but more importantly you gaurantee three. rainy day, pts are vital after a takeaway there....

The ONLY good thing is that it gives defenses something else to think about. Still.. I would rather see a pass into the end zone there.
a fan of reverse on third and goal from the eight, especially in this weather. Thought some of Eli's passes were off target. Some good running by Barkley.
Get the ball to a playmaker in OBJ in a creative way. If it doesn't work, they have the FG. It also may set up something later. I also liked the call earlier on the drive where he motioned to the backfield and then received the swing pass.
in the red zone. Last year, we would have had 2-3 guys in the same area short of the sticks. This call had layers. Shepard was in the flat drawinbg attention and Lattimer on the same side running a skinny post (I think) drawing a safety. This left a hole for OBJ to run to from the opposite side of the formation. If they committed to doubling OBJ, either Lattimer is open near the end zone or Shepard is open a little short, but with space to run. We didn't have too many plays like that last year.
They have it all now. I'd say their biggest weakness is Bortles as he can be inconsistent and sometimes make stupid plays. He is the best they have at QB though.

hold by the D, but they are punishing us pretty effectively. We need to get a sustained drive, if only to rest the D. Thought for sure Jenkins would have another INT, and then that Paul would catch if for a TD.
But I really like Bettcher and his philosophy. Good fit. Right guy at the right time.
Why not disrespect to Spags? He was vastly overrated. He only had 3 really good seasons as a DC and it was only when he had absolutely dominating DL play. Te rest of his career, his defenses (as DC and HC) have been mediocre at best to putrid. He has overseen some of the historically worst Ds.
Thats as bad a call as Ive ever seen. The defender wasnt even moved and hardly touched at all. Thats fucking ridiculous. Took a series away from the Giants. Terrible call.
need to do a better job getting yards on first down. Third and long against this defense is an extremely difficult situation. Our D also got no rest, but Fournette is out.
I guess that's how good we are going to have to be
Looks like game 17 of the 2017 season. No run game, short slant routes that are swallowed up. Solder looks good, however, nice to have competent play at LT.

This is like Eli playing himself in 2008 right now
Better playcalling, routes, personnel, and formations. The protection isn't great, but they are moving the pocket enough. But, the run blocking was supposed to be improved and it is possibly worse. Every single run there is a defender in the backfield.
Another good reminder for all those insane projections on numbers for Barkley -- without a competent line he's not going to tear up the league.
Which makes it even more puzzling as to why you waste a seconds overall draft pick on a running back when your oline cant block. Oh well, cant do anything about it now.

It's interesting. Barkley is going to look like a bust if this is how this year goes - and it won't be his fault.
and the Giants decided to make him a starter? lol typical. This team lacks quality players, you can see it clearly. You see on the Oline, DLine, Safety, LB's, etc..
did we all agree to pretend that, when a new offense goes up against the strongest defense in the NFL, we should write off the team after three drives?
Yet reading some of these comments makes it seem we're down 27.
was thinking SAME thing. our biggest concern outside of OL was ELi, he looks VERY good. the OL is bad and the defense is what they thought they were....next year add 2 OL hernandez in second year and it could be an iumproved unit....the giants are playing a top team in football and the best defense in the game. i am not to upset being down 7 at half.
we are fine guys, stop panicking, this team is ALREADY more watchable than last season lol
have best front 7 in the NFL. And its got some depth.
Flowers still stinks but lets not kill the OL for every single play.
I would agree if it was just a fe bonehead plays or missed assignments. But, every single play has been terrible. I agree that Jax has an excellent front 7. But, the OL has not provided any opposition whatsoever.
singlehandedly making things almost impossible for the Giants offense
He got some help from the refs on that OPI call that took away a series from the Giants and flipped field position for the Jags. Flowers is awe full. So are the refs.
The results are still the same.
Cant run
Cant pass protect
Cant make a needed stop.
The offense is being de-flowered
Anyone check with to see if Fox put on a game tape from last year instead of a live game...
That can't block, a defense that can't tackle, and a head coach that can not get 1 play for our new weapon Saquan Barkley, not once did he get him in space, all season and this is what we get, this is our new head coach? Unreal, more of the same old bullshit. They better do something fast or this crowd is going to turn ugly this season. The one player that is playing great is Eli Manning.
This. Campbell is dominating everyone, which is creating openings for their other excellent DL and LB, including Ngakoue. Eli has no time. Barkley has no lanes.
On offense, their OL is controlling our own excellent DL.
I'd use six OL, or at least keep a RB or TE in to block. On defense, use four DL.
should be up by way more. This game is still up for grabs and the Giants are lucky. This is typically a game the Giants would blow, dominating and keeping the score close. We need to help Flowers, and get Barkley involved in the passing game.
If they can scheme to help the OL and get a sustained drive to start the second half they're in great shape. This is a very winnable game against a superior opponent.
A three win team in position for a competitive second half
Against a team one win from the Super bowl last year that has two tremendous lines and guys on this site acting like they are shocked we arent having a better day.
What did you think this game would be? Mayve have some patience rather than mother eff them all day.
his issue was technique and that he cant bend, thats not going to change on the right side other than his defender might not be as good and Eli has probably an ability to see him get beat from the right side. I guess my issue is that I cannot imagine there is not a journeyman who we could have gotten to be a stopgap replacement. One thing to note, is that this is the best pass rush in foobtall so while nothing looks new with Flowers on right side, definitive judgments probably are a few weeks away at the very least

+100000
literally how i feel. im not worried at all. we are down 7, win or lose this team showed more this game than most of last year....eli looks good. obj looks good. defense is what it is, we know it lacks serious talent and the OL with a huge test is failing i agree, but only way to go is up....we are playing a tough team and we are in the game despite the BS call on engram and despite our OL blocking like cheerleaders

There are many Giants having a great game so far, Jenkins, OBJ, Shepherd to name a few.
The Barkley problem is not the coach, it's the oline (yet again for the 7th season in a row)!
At least this GM knows it unlike JR who refused to recognize how bad it was.
this a loss before the week began. Losing is not going to bother me as much as losing ugly like we are today. At least we're finding trouble spots and will have a chance to fix them down the line.
But they made some good upgrades. Hopefully they can find a few more ASAP. Gettleman no doubt is focusing on this.
Time to fix the RIGHT side of the line.
Exactly, my God, we are coming off a 3-13 year, playing one of the best teams in the NFL known for their O & D lines and it's a 7 point game at halftime and you would think we are losing by 40 points.
Eli is looking better, OBJ is back and looking good, this is going to take time but most on here want to throw in the towel
You keep espousing us signing another colossal bust who was found nude and incoherent a year ago. Flowers sucks but he can keep his clothes on.
From Sayre Bedinger: "If a team needs an offensive tackle, Cyrus Kouandjio has put out some good tape. He should get picked up by someone."
CBS Denver: CYRUS KOUANDJIO, LT
But Cyrus Kouandjio had two holding penalties against the Redskins, you might be saying right now. True, but the former Bills second-rounder has been stout as it comes as the second-team left tackle.
Hes helped to blast open running lanes, and has kept Chad Kellys jersey clean. The Broncos need a swing tackle who can step in and be trusted to keep the O-line functioning as a unit.
Kouandjio is that man. The team likely hoped it would be Billy Turner, but Kouandjio has far out-played him."
Jon Heath: "One of the other spots will likely go to Cyrus Kouandjio, who has looked like the teams best backup offensive tackle this preseason."
Chad Jensen: "CYRUS KOUANDJIO, OT
I like Cyrus Kouandjio. He's played well all summer and his hands down the third-best offensive tackle on the roster.
The question with Kouandjio is whether or not he can play right tackle. The Broncos might not have a choice, because he clearly out-played Billy Turner and Elijah Wilkinson. If it's about keeping the best guys, Kouandjio is among them."
Jags winning both lines. Solid playcall. Yeldon comes in they use his strength in the RZ with an easy pitch and catch TD. Game could have been worse with fewer drops and penalties but I'll take it
Playcall early was tough esp in the RZ tho losing every OL battle doesn't help. If Flowers is a liability how is there not more help, tho all are getting beat atm. Also 0 targets to SB? Seems a mistake given the pressure
Eli, OBJ, Shep look pretty good. Seems like EE is close. Hopefully they all settle in - esp the lines & the D. A lot of new faces & moving parts
But they made some good upgrades. Hopefully they can find a few more ASAP. Gettleman no doubt is focusing on this.

agreed. i am feeling fine. do i wanna win ya of course, but 3 wins last year and we are playing a team that lost by 4 in AFC ship...they are a VERY good team especially on defense...we are in it
Anyone feel better, Norwell has been fairly subpar so far. Hes been beaten several times one on one for QB pressures and also committed a costly penalty in the red zone.
OL talent depth is as bad as Ive ever seen in the NFL and OL play is subpar league wide with the exception of maybe a handful of teams.
It is called the fucking screen pass, look what they did with Fournet, not one fucking play like that, not one attempt, just drop backs without giving Flowers any help. Did Shurmer watch any game tape? This is what we get after all season of preparation for this game, this is the plan.
Yet reading some of these comments makes it seem we're down 27.

Well said and I'm right there with you for the most part. I was hoping for more from the D but it's only one half.
Plenty of time for adjustments and improvement. I have confidence in Shurmur to adjust where needed. Never saw much from he who will not be named as far as that goes coming out for the 2nd half.
This team was in the AFC championship game. They are dominant on both lines. Campbell is almost impossible to block and they have 6 pro bowlers on D. We were 3-13. And yet, we are down by a touchdown, their main back has an injury and they can't seem to stop Beckham.
So, while it may look ugly, new game plans on offense and defense always take weeks to settle in. Remember Spags first few defensive games? Doesn't look like we will emerge this week but it isn't hopeless and it is a long season.
Help on Campbell, get Barkley the ball on screens and in space, and find a way to tighten up the D. Our coaches could never adjust the past few years. This where we see whether Shurmer and Co are different.
To a formidable team but were still seeing the same issues
Need a FS desperately ..
Middle of the field still wide open .
Jags have controlled the trenches both sides of the ball.
Collins is overrated at this point he hasn't filled in the run game and exploited in the pass game .
Have to get Barkley involved and also the TE's .
It's not just Flowers everyone is getting beat .

Also agree. We need to do a much better job getting yards on first down, perhaps with some short dump offs and screens. But we are still very much in this game.

Question is, why is OL play bad? Is it the athleticism of the defenders? Spread offenses is college? I just dont know.

Eli would likely get mauled on a screen, and even if he completes it I imagine the gain would be -3 yards.
Jax is a great pass rushing team
Last year though Jacksonville was not really that good versus run. I think looking at last years stats are somewhat dubious for this season, but it wasnt that great and our ground game has been pitiful
Agreed, that was a weak call. Eli need to be better throwing the ball downfield as well, same deep accuracy issues that plagued him last year. Hopefully its just the rain.
Their freaking defense is fast and tackles.....extremely grabby, especially on back end. I think they couldve been called on other plays for PI or holding.
has been excellent. The key play was Eli overthrowing OBJ.
The Jags defense is awesome. Stout and fast at the LOS, and in coverage. They are forcing us into many third and long situations. We needed penalties to even get into FG range on that last drive.
The Giants' line is still a problem. All things considered, things could be a lot worse. If the Giants' defense adjusts in the second half (with Fournette out) this is a winnable game.
the play call. Much too obvious to hand it to Barkley. Should have used him in a play action fake and thrown a short pass. That was a big wasted opportunity given the field position. We at least needed a FG.
Meh it wasnt a bad decision. Kind of in no mans land there. Unless you really trust your punter to trap the ball inside the 10 then you should go for it.
Eli missed again on the quick pass to Barkley. Has now missed on several throws and has throw behind the receiver on many others that did end up as receptions.

Can't tell if serious? He's 15 for 19 against maybe the best D in football with this O line? What the hell?

Numbers are deceiving. Obviously glad he's taking what he gets, but its 15 completions for 129...He's missed Odell for TDs twice and it was certainly a miss on the throw to Barkley.
I also don't think it's wrong to say some of the receptions are on throws behind. I didn't say he's having a horrible game, just that he missed a few throws. Is that wrong?
Eli was not hit on that last missed throw to Beckham. There was pressure but he wasn't actually touched....just crumpled to the ground on he felt pressure.

He got hit on his lower legs as he was throwing the ball
This is after all the first real game they have played together. That said, one thing is certain, over the last 7 years us fans have every right to be tired of having a shitty o-line.
Including me, but here's the thing: there were literally ZERO other options. Not in the Draft. Not in free agency. Solder was the only passable guy at LT.

I have no issue criticizing Flowers because he has a record here of bad play, but Solder deserves a break, its his first game against best pass rushing defense in the NFL. I think saying people warned us is a bit of s reach.
Shannon Sharpe: I see one NFL job NYG RT E. Flowers might be able to accomplish w/o a problem, equipment manager. Flowers is as sorry as an Alaskan summer day is long.
got a feeling this is where our D puts the hammer down
Nedd more vertical plays?! Shurmur's play calling is whack, all short plays looks like Mcadoos??! Man I miss Gilbride!!
How the fuck do you propose to do that when there is zero time to throw? What's the magic way to get a ball downfield when your o-line can't even slow rushers down?

Well you see...that's why they called it the Run and Shoot. You use the run to set up the deep ball. Check it out on wikipedia.
really? i mean....4th quarter a superior team, best defense in the game and we down 4....OBJ doing fine, barkley doing fine when you consider this defense up front.
At this point, how do you really blame Flowers? WE made the decision to keep him as our starter at RT. Our evaluation process. Flowers looks just as bad on the right side as he did on the left. We must have known this before today.
Flowers cannot be a starting offensive lineman anymore
There goes game one ...
Eli hasn't had a chance to do anything ...
Flowers was even worse then I could imagine ....
It was just a matter of time really ...
From that of the prior offensive guru that Mara hired. This is so Manning: if you cant score for your team, help the other team. Why keep Flowers in there? Backup cannot be worse.
Don't panic yet. If the team is still really bad in the second half of the season, then panic. It's very predictable that this team would struggle early.

not so fast! But Flowers does suck more than I thought he did too.
As horrible as Flowers is, the bottom line is the Coaching staff still made the choice to start him. Pretty much telling us, we have shitty Coaching again. Based on the play calls, I am not impressed at all with Shurmur! This is not on Eli at all, he was doing well, you cannot play QB without a good offensive line! plain and simple.

Or, shitty talent -- nobody better than Flowers to put in ahead of him. Either way, that's a problem.
To see the attempts at placing blame with such glee on Eli.
If you blame that on him you're not only an idiot you have no clue about Football.
Take a sack? Why because he knew the ball would get tipped?
It's just mind-boggling to see it from so-called fans of this team. I have said it before and firmly believe that many of you would rather see this team lose to just prove some fucking idiotic hatred you have for a player

Theyve scored 15 points with a qb who fed phantom pressure and struggles to deliver an accurate ball downfield, and an oline that struggles to block. No one said Barkley was the problem. They said it makes little sense to draft a running back when you have such other glaring problems.

D has played extremely well. Jacksonville has punted every time they've had the ball this half. Their only points are off an INT. But we need one more stop. It's getting late.

this is the most important drive. Allowing Yeldon to get 6 yards on 1st down is not good. 3rd down here. Biggest defensive play of the game
All the way to the stupid rotating RBs. I cant believe Barkley wasnt out there for that series. Huge momentum shift and they help them with that nonsense

Doesnt matter if you're not sure. Eli strapped up. Odell strapped up. Saquon strapped up. Shep and Engram looking for redemption and you placate yourself by not giving those guys a chance at scoring a game winnung TD?

Fucking brutal given how they played.
Btw,the "placate yourself" wasnt an attack. Just spoke harshly because I thought they shoulda got the chance.
Was Flowers a top 10 draft pick? Hes been given every opportunity to succeed, switched positions, different coaching staff, was made clear that he is basically playing for his football life this year with 5th year option not being picked up, and invariably he just fucking sucks.
Play. Penalties by Flowers (Solder's he just got beat) and drops absolutely killed us. You can actually make the argument that Flowers single handedly lost us the game with the penalties and getting beat on the deflection> pick> TD. But film might show otherwise.
no doubt it's brutal but they had earlier misssteps that could have given them the lead
100%. But that PR literally has one job. That was actually one of the times Odell shoulda been back there. Maybe not a TD, maybe not 20 yards, but a CATCH would have been nice.
All aside, hes a 100 million dollar player at this point, Antonio does it for Pitt....thats where you stick Odell in there at PR. To CATCH THE BALL ajd then maybe get you 15 on the return. Only glaring mistake Shurmur made for me.
LETS GO GIANTS!!!!

Gotta do better.
Good play!
Block a kick!
I would guess the latter.
Held them to three . Not terrible .
Put in sub now. He blows
Oh wait, there is no viable sub
Flowers on FIRE
Maybe double team campbell?
BENCH this fool
Seriously, cut fucking bait. Anyone is better
NHC??
He is mentally lazy and it makes everything about him sloppy.
That is exactly what a fan would do. If we had someone better, the guy would be starting over Flowers
When will this team learn to just take the ball at the 25?
would have been a safety if he hadn't run it out
that had debacle and defensive points written all over it.
I don't care who the RT back up is, he has to be better than Flowers. I'd rather sign herzlich back and put him at RT than flowers.
Same old shit
It will happen again too.

Had no momentum going forward.
Not how to start it up though. No one near Fournette on the screen.
Hat cam sucks tho.
Good pressure up the gut
He threw him to the ground. That usually gets the call.
Quote:
but I wouldn't call that a clear hold..
Most of the football watching universe would call it exactly that, clear cut.
But then you have to call that every down. No more a hold than any other play.
I would bench him
Please please put a TE next to Flowers...
I would bench him
That's why you are not a coach...
except for when he nearly threw the ball way over odell's head on a five yard pass.
The Betch, multi DL, pressure and INTs.

Ereck's hands were outside the shoulder pads. Normally, not called, but his actions caused Campbell's hips/upper torso to twist (that is the hold). Throwing him to the ground didn't help. Flowers has to accept that he has a target on his back after the roundhouse kick earlier.
we call that the SackRabbit scheme!
OBJ!!!!!
Or was that Wheeler on that first down?
Lets punch it in now
Might not want to really rely on plays that take so long to develop
Some good signs in that series tho!
Yes!
Now give it back Bortles, keep giving us the ball.
Agreed, needs touches in the green zone.
The ONLY good thing is that it gives defenses something else to think about. Still.. I would rather see a pass into the end zone there.
He's just not a very good blocker.
The problem is that Flowers cant either.
The Giants probably need to use 6 OL in that situation.
2 Barkley has that quick ability to hit the line and adapt - that will be huge for us and has been missing for a long time
3 Much better footwork by Flowers

At least he didnt trip anyone. And he had help on some of those plays.
Yep. They're going to keep doing it if they can rip off 4-5 every run.
I thought it set up as an option play
I think Wynn.....
Aside from three plays (the sack, the pick and the Apple PD) this defense looks just awful.

had an option to pass there. Maybe even designed that way but everyone looked covered so OBJ took the safer route and went down.

If the Giants can just stuff that first down run, it'll be huge help.

On the pass that Jenkins dropped, the Giants DE was tackled right in front of Bortles - no call.
And you all want to crucify Flowers when there were two very clear holds not called..holding is too subjective like most NFL calls.

Let's remember that our D will look better when OV is healt...
...oh, shit.
quickly ....
Total domination both sides of the ball
Exactly
This is like Eli playing himself in 2008 right now
Someone has to step up
Campbell is wrecking the offense .

The shit absolutely never works. Never
Its not even half time. Why do you guys even watch?

Oops. We have Solder. Someone to replace Flowers.
Which makes it even more puzzling as to why you waste a seconds overall draft pick on a running back when your oline cant block. Oh well, cant do anything about it now.
It's interesting. Barkley is going to look like a bust if this is how this year goes - and it won't be his fault.
stfu youre obnoxious
worse than i could imagine
I dont care how good the Jags front is. At least compete. Get Wheeler in there if Flowers wont.
Down 7 at half. Get ball to start second half.
The officials are trying to keep it calm between Ramsey and OBJ and they know Ramsey been talking shit!
Overall, Eli looks fantastic -- and really moving smartly in the pocket when he isn't overwhelmed by rushers immediately.
Flowers still stinks but lets not kill the OL for every single play.
Not in Giants eyes as they want to win one more for Eli
or..else would've....
Can't even get a good snap off ...
Miles Jack in the backfield every friggen play ...
It was 39 seconds at end of the play. And they didnt call time out until it was 25 seconds
was thinking SAME thing. our biggest concern outside of OL was ELi, he looks VERY good. the OL is bad and the defense is what they thought they were....next year add 2 OL hernandez in second year and it could be an iumproved unit....the giants are playing a top team in football and the best defense in the game. i am not to upset being down 7 at half.
we are fine guys, stop panicking, this team is ALREADY more watchable than last season lol
The draw to Barkley was an intentional attempt to take time off the clock. They didn't want to leave the Jags with any time if they scored.
Yup. Solder giving up a lot of pressure
Flowers still stinks but lets not kill the OL for every single play.
Quote:
They need to draft at least 2 OL high and get some kind of pass rush.

Agreed, this is not a rebuild, this is a go for it.
Solder is actually doing fine, Omameh looks average, Flowers looks brutal. Remember this is the best front 4 in the league
There wasn't a single we blocked run play that half. The 10 yard run Barkley had was all effort on his part.
Whereas the A List plays may be, or be considered to be, from shotgun and pass block sets, you fail to prepare for playing with whom you have....
Why I wanted on outside zone runs for two years.
He got some help from the refs on that OPI call that took away a series from the Giants and flipped field position for the Jags. Flowers is awe full. So are the refs.
Cant run
Cant pass protect
Cant make a needed stop.
The offense is being de-flowered
Anyone check with to see if Fox put on a game tape from last year instead of a live game...
Very lucky to be down 7
Just total domination by Jax
Will second half be any different?
Defense already worn down
Offense must control the ball or game over
Lace it up for next week
Time to fix the RIGHT side of the line.
Well then you'd be shooting some random poor sap. You need to shoot Ereck Flowers.
Quote:
but so far, the ROI on Solder and Omameh isn't looking very good.

people forget that...this DL is a HUGE test. so far we are failing. good news? we are down 7....
Shockingly close game. If giants can find just one adjustment on offense,, they are a Odell Beckham huge play way from stealing this one.
But that adjustment is a big if.
Running game and blocking looks about on par for McAgoof era...but is is the jags D.
Bring back Pugh!
What did you think this game would be? Mayve have some patience rather than mother eff them all day.
And they can't run block at all - not one little bit.
They're still in this game though, bailout courtesy of Jenkins and OBJ.
Disheartening that after Fournette goes down the Jax O actually improves it's performance.
No.
What did you think this game would be? Mayve have some patience rather than mother eff them all day.
+100000
literally how i feel. im not worried at all. we are down 7, win or lose this team showed more this game than most of last year....eli looks good. obj looks good. defense is what it is, we know it lacks serious talent and the OL with a huge test is failing i agree, but only way to go is up....we are playing a tough team and we are in the game despite the BS call on engram and despite our OL blocking like cheerleaders
There are many Giants having a great game so far, Jenkins, OBJ, Shepherd to name a few.
The Barkley problem is not the coach, it's the oline (yet again for the 7th season in a row)!
At least this GM knows it unlike JR who refused to recognize how bad it was.

Quote:
But they made some good upgrades. Hopefully they can find a few more ASAP. Gettleman no doubt is focusing on this.

agreed. i am feeling fine. do i wanna win ya of course, but 3 wins last year and we are playing a team that lost by 4 in AFC ship...they are a VERY good team especially on defense...we are in it
OL talent depth is as bad as Ive ever seen in the NFL and OL play is subpar league wide with the exception of maybe a handful of teams.

Well said and I'm right there with you for the most part. I was hoping for more from the D but it's only one half.
Plenty of time for adjustments and improvement. I have confidence in Shurmur to adjust where needed. Never saw much from he who will not be named as far as that goes coming out for the 2nd half.

Cyrus Kouandijo has played 2 games since 2016. The point at which you lose reasonable thought is suggesting hes the answer to anything.
What did you think this game would be? Mayve have some patience rather than mother eff them all day.
Also agree. We need to do a much better job getting yards on first down, perhaps with some short dump offs and screens. But we are still very much in this game.
OL talent depth is as bad as Ive ever seen in the NFL and OL play is subpar league wide with the exception of maybe a handful of teams.
Question is, why is OL play bad? Is it the athleticism of the defenders? Spread offenses is college? I just dont know.

Eli would likely get mauled on a screen, and even if he completes it I imagine the gain would be -3 yards.
Last year though Jacksonville was not really that good versus run. I think looking at last years stats are somewhat dubious for this season, but it wasnt that great and our ground game has been pitiful
Happy the penalty was called.
Toss that guy
OBJis open all the time tho. Hopefully a couple connect.

It was big. No doubt.

Agreed, that was a weak call. Eli need to be better throwing the ball downfield as well, same deep accuracy issues that plagued him last year. Hopefully its just the rain.

Clearly was bumped at the end of the play to hold him up. Maybe EricJ didn't see the replay?
Pretty much any other LB in the league and Engram would have made it.
ashame
We need to make a couple of those plays to punch it into the end zone. OBJ was open for two TDs so far this game.
So far, I am happy that we are hanging with this team. Just hate to lose this opportunity we have right now.
Let their D suck wind for a while
Can the defense get a turnover .
can't sustain a drive no how ...
Cant believe Jack came out of no where to keep him from getting that first down
Pederson would have gone for it. Just saying.

Agreed. At worst it was illegal contact
The Jags defense is awesome. Stout and fast at the LOS, and in coverage. They are forcing us into many third and long situations. We needed penalties to even get into FG range on that last drive.
ashame
That throw was right where it should have been-- Beckham got held/illegal contact at the end of his route -- slowed him up and was not called.
Not an overthrow in my book at all.
Great play by Jack, for sure

Just an't do that.
Actually, just take your time to make that call.
What a dick move by 74.
Good field position.
Capitalize!
Ha! That's great.
Carter is not that fast.....he may become a very solid LBer for us, but theres not many LBers that can run like Jack
This Jag suck fest is horrendous
He got picked before our pick in the 2nd round. He fell to the 2nd because of injury. We got Shepard.
Also seems to be holding his own so far as well.
Eli went to the wrong guy
I would have pitched it to Barkley and let him pick his spot.
Engram pauses when he caught it.
I think they were smart to go for it but I didn't like the play they went with.

Yeah when he knocked 55 on his ass he sure looked like a WR... Joke
Tough to choose between punt or 1 yard run.
No first down
As simple as that
Need a better o line
Bad play? What the fuck could he have done? The line completely collapsed on him
He was short regardless. Saquon's elbow was down and the ball did not reach the 36 yard line
13-9 Jags, 6min left in the 3rd.

Extend the ball. He jumped with no awareness of the line to gain.
Our o-line should diminish a lot of the hype over Barkley.
13-9 Jax.
that was a long 1 yard to dive for
13-9 Jags
that said, the real story today is that the OLine still sux balls.

yup
At least it's something the team is used to.
What an idiotic post

That's not hyperbole at all
Indeed. Much better this half.
Sigh.
Can't tell if serious? He's 15 for 19 against maybe the best D in football with this O line? What the hell?
Quote:
Eli missed again on the quick pass to Barkley. Has now missed on several throws and has throw behind the receiver on many others that did end up as receptions.

It has always been strong. Just needed it to be a bit more accurate.
Fumble Tiki!
Agree. Very inconsistent.
You can call any damn play you want, but if you cant block it wont work.
Not really sure how you can come to that conclusion based on today, but okay...
Imagine when we go against an athletic QB...
Horrid
He got hit on his lower legs as he was throwing the ball
There is simply no substitute for an integrated running game.
No one stays fucking home
Captain Obvious with an asshole attitude
JEnkins was held on the outside

Pretty much...I saw him get a nice chip block in earlier
Hopefully they gel and look better against a lesser defense. But, man, no cohesion at all today.
Frustrating
He's been open a lot.
Including me, but here's the thing: there were literally ZERO other options. Not in the Draft. Not in free agency. Solder was the only passable guy at LT.

The punt sucked. Touchback from one 41.
I have no issue criticizing Flowers because he has a record here of bad play, but Solder deserves a break, its his first game against best pass rushing defense in the NFL. I think saying people warned us is a bit of s reach.
Seriously? Have you watched this line? We don't even have time to throw screen passes!

How the fuck do you propose to do that when there is zero time to throw? What's the magic way to get a ball downfield when your o-line can't even slow rushers down?

Well you see...that's why they called it the Run and Shoot. You use the run to set up the deep ball. Check it out on wikipedia.
Schurmer is an offensive genius, even more so than McAdoo. I expect hell at least get 12 points.
That is the best compliment you can give
Apple and Jenkins
Yep. Knock on wood.
really? i mean....4th quarter a superior team, best defense in the game and we down 4....OBJ doing fine, barkley doing fine when you consider this defense up front.
the secondary as a whole hasnt been bad.
He's had 3 pass breakups. He's been good. Constantly on the hip of the receiver.
I mean were only trailing the runner up in the AFC last year by 4 pts. We dont exactly look all around awful.

Agreed, but why does 10 always make a back breaking play? Just eat it or throw it away.
Bullshit, Flowers has fucked Eli and this team all day.
He's playing the role of Job with this OL
At this point, how do you really blame Flowers? WE made the decision to keep him as our starter at RT. Our evaluation process. Flowers looks just as bad on the right side as he did on the left. We must have known this before today.

absolutely. Shepard is having a great game.
Great blocking by Shepard - talk about momentum shifts within 1 minute

Largely because the Giants didn't draft their QB.
That's some "why the hell is Tyree in there" timing right there.
Kinda like the offensive rookie of the year and the rushing title holder in 2017 were exactly that.
Hill got away with a horse collar tackle.
It will be fun every time.
Theyve scored 15 points with a qb who fed phantom pressure and struggles to deliver an accurate ball downfield, and an oline that struggles to block. No one said Barkley was the problem. They said it makes little sense to draft a running back when you have such other glaring problems.

Have to contain Bortles legs and make him throw it downfield.
He's got a leg. Although I'm worried about him outkicking the coverage.
No doubt this team is a lot better....hopefully Flowers continues to get better. And they are playing a great defense.
Likely best D in NFL
Shaky OL
this is the most important drive. Allowing Yeldon to get 6 yards on 1st down is not good. 3rd down here. Biggest defensive play of the game

Let's go, O
I was wondering if that was what I just heard.

Doesnt matter if you're not sure. Eli strapped up. Odell strapped up. Saquon strapped up. Shep and Engram looking for redemption and you placate yourself by not giving those guys a chance at scoring a game winnung TD?

ELI, Saq, ODB looked great. On to Dallas
Only glaring mistake Shurmur made for me.
bc, Im with you. Totally okay with this loss. Was a great game.
Just that PR.....why? Odell is made for that exact kick situation. Even if he is back there explicitly told to fair catch it.
JALEN fucking CLAY???????
This is a fair question.
Quote:
why OBJ was not back there to return that punt?
This is a fair question.
Its my only one. My only answer is that it's game 1, he is coming off injury.
But that is THEE ODB PR scenario.
