but it was a bad throw by Eli. Watch it again...it was way out in front of him and he extended but it was off his fingertips. Catchable but a tough catch...but the throw was off the mark to be sure.

I think Eli was expecting him to accelerate forward. I would very much like to see it again as I think it’s a play that kinda got lost in all the analysis of yesterday.
HAHA! I thought the same thing but figured why even post it here? I'll get lambasted (even more - go read the Eli excuses thread).
The throw was a little low and a little too far out front. Should Shepard have caught it? Absolutely. Does a more efficient QB make that easy throw and hit Shepard in stride? Absolutely. Routinely.
It is yet another example of the small things a winning quarterback does that Eli hasn't done in five years.

Looked the like the ball was right in his lap.
I'd suggest you watch it again (if possible) and see if you still believe that.
Score there and we take the lead with 2 minutes to go. Could have been a much better Monday.
also that 2 ppint conversion was even bigger, could of kicked a field goal there and would of been tied..
I know he almost scored. But everyone and their mother knows we run the halfback out of the shotgun on those tries. Would like to see something a bit different there.

Again, I was at the game and only saw it live and a replay - so if you have a video of it- Ill love to see it.

It definitely wasn’t low. He may have had to reach for it. I’m willing to look at a replay but I haven’t seen it anywhere.

I was sitting endzone where they were driving...ball was out in front A BIT.......not in the numbers but SS needs to catch that ball, every time.
put Eli in a no-win situation constantly. If he hits Shep in the hip, you'd bitch that he wasn't hit in stride. When he hits him in stride, the pass is too far out in front.
We have a thread titles "Eli excuses", but the opposite happens here a lot more than the other way around.

I watched it a couple of times and while it was out in front of him I'd say it was a catch he has to make and was a catchable ball. By far not Eli's worst pass of the day and I think Sheppard was hearing footsteps.
both Shepard and Engram where they don’t appear to have soft hands. Sometimes the ball just bounces right off their hands, like this one with Shepard. Whereas Barkley and Beckham seem to absorb the ball with their hands when they make the catch (even when Beckham drops passes its more due to taking his eye off the ball and not necessarily his hands).
Either way, Shepard needs to catch that.
You can get in to troubled debating how far his arms Â
were extended, but the ball was basically where they teach a QB to throw to a receiver from day 1. He was leading him, he was in stride, and both hands touched the ball. That was on Sheppard. Its tough to get on him though because he makes a lot of difficult plays and he has laid his body out there and taken the tough shots. With that one being pretty damn important and arguably extending that drive we need someone to blame.....

This. Shep needs to catch that ball, even if he falls to the ground. The ball hit both hands.
I wasn’t even thinking it was going to be debated that it was anything less than a drop. I know he should have caught it. But my question was more would he have made the first or scored?
That looks like a good pass to me as Shep is moving left to right in the pic. Looks to me that it will hit him square in the hands a millisecond later.
he dropped it. Attempts to make everything Eli's fault is maddening. It was a drop. Was it a "perfect" throw? Who cares? It was a good throw. The ball hit Shepard in stride, he reached it, it hit his hands, he dropped it.
in the league make bad throws every game. Brees, Brady, Rodgers etc at times does not throw the perfect pass. Watch all the games yesterday where you will see WRs make great catches and help their QB. Our TE had three drops on his own. Please stop this bashing of our QB.
Yes, as I said above it's a catch he should make....but it was also an errant throw...both things can be true.
If you define an "errant throw" as any throw that is not perfectly placed, then yes it was an errant throw. If you define an errant throw as a ball that is very difficult if not impossible to catch, then no it wasn't. An NFL receiver should not need the ball placed perfectly in order to catch it.
That is a fairly routine catch for most NFL receivers. Shepard should have caught it.
Also, the pass was bit out in front, but those are the catches he's paid to make...........
also that 2 ppint conversion was even bigger, could of kicked a field goal there and would of been tied..

Every throw isn't perfect.
It's easy for a professional who knows he'll have open space in front of him.
Did you see OBJ catch a ball behind him on a rollout by Eli........
Again, every pass isn't perfect. Receivers need to make plays.
The ball actually hit both of his palms with his hands not even extended out that far!!
Objectivity would be welcome here...

You think that image shows it's Eli's fault? His arms are extended, but that's a catch a starting WR needs to make 99 out of 100 times.
Top receivers need to catch those critical passes.
2. It is a little in front of him, which I agree.
But come on now, that is an easy catch.
Is the ball hitting his palm?? Yep...
LOL...it's not. But can you at least admit you were full of shit when you said his arms weren't even extended?
He actually has pretty good form for reaching for the pass.
Make the catch and get YAC.....................

Kinda speaks to the standards some hold Eli to.

That pass looks good to me. Looks about one millisecond away from hitting Shep in the hands.
