One win since November 19, 2017 and this is starting to feel like ground hog day!! Yesterday's game in my opinion was Super Important, if only to get this new staff going on the right track and rid themselves of last year's stench.
Unfortunately that opening day loss did not do much to make us forget of how crappy things have been in Giants land for these last 10 months.
Now comes that annual showdown on Sunday night in Dallas and as much as one does not want to put so much emphasis on such an early season match up, I think this game is HUGE, for this young team, HUGE for the coaching staff and HUGE for it's fan base. An 0-2 start would only extend the horrors of what this team has been through the past year. This is a MUST win; No moral victory here, just win and let the season begin!!
Dallas' offense is putrid. Put 9 in the box to deal with the overrated Elliott, single both WRs, and no need to cover the TE.
Giants big - 10-0.

Now as bad as the oline looked, and Eli missing two TD passes, they had a chance to win against a legitimate playoff contender.
I think people had good reason to freak out after week 1 last year. We lost 19-3 and didn't even look competitive against the Cowboys. It was even scarier because that was not even the first game of a new regime like yesterday was. Our offensive line looked like a college team compared to the Dallas defenders.
While they were outmatched yesterday, I did not get the same panicky feeling from that game that I had a year ago.
Next week will be a good test, because it is playing the Cowboys in Dallas on SNF, pretty much exactly one year later. Let's see how we look in comparison to last year. If we lose, I'm still not going to freak out, I would just like to see marked improvement and competitiveness compared to the trash we saw under McAdoo.
Well next thing you know (ala last season and several before) you as re looking up at record in october and that ok few losses turn into 0-4 0-5 et cetera et cetera et cetera
Cant happen to a "win now" team

In the parity age, there is no real rebuild. Evidence after evidence each year points to 180 degree turnarounds. The only exception was Cleveland as they’ve been in rebuild since 1999..
You could make the argument that "how they lose" is more important. For instance, last year against Detroit, the offensive line was so bad as they fell to 0-2 that the feeling(at least to me) the season was dead.
If after Sunday we are still talking about how poor the o-line is with guys getting blown up again, it's over. Guys are either going to be able to block their man straight up or they are not. No "coaching" is going to solve this.
Just like last year, the o-line is threatening to blow up this season before October.
Wasted timeouts
Holding calls
Missed blocks resulting in pressure on Eli
Questionable play calling....
Dropped balls
interceptions
Missed passing opportunities
This team just continues to shoot itself in the foot week after week, no matter who is the coach....
It's one thing, when the opposition beats you, it's another when you beat yourself.....something all too familiar, when talking about the NY Football Giants.

I'm not trying to be argumentative here and while I agree with some of your points, what were the bad plays they called? Are you referring to the 2 pt conversion and the reverse? I can let those skate, but did you see others? I thought the play calling wasn't too bad for a first game. Not too agressive and not to mundane, but if you can point to specific plays, I would like to know. And I know its a hot topic around here but the one interception was a tough one and I think flukey. But going along with your line yes a lot of similarities to past seasons....

project. Despite what you may think, they are in a rebuild.

Well, take rebuild in perspective. It is not a baseball, sell off your assets, load the minors, wait a few seasons then be good for 5 years, rebuild.
This is an NFL rebuild, over 50% of the roster changed, I believe the usual is about 35%. I think if they had more time and money, that number would be closer to 60%. The head office changed, finally...
'56 you may prefer not to call it a rebuild, but it is. By next season, the oline will change; I'd bet the DBs change, if Engram keeps dropping passes, TE will change and half the WRs will change.
Oh, and the Browns are in a league of their own.
But they can't win with him anymore. The game has changed. A QB needs to make plays with his legs and Eli never really had that but he really doesn't have that now. It's too easy to defend the against the Giants. Believe me I know Eli has been stuck behind an awful OL for 5 years and had lousy coaching but at some point you are what your record says you are.
The Giants had a really rare opportunity to go from one franchise QB to another Montana to Young Favre to Rogers and drafted a RB. They will pay for that stupidity for a long time.
Someone explain to me what the Giants didn't "love" about Sam Darnold? He has all the combine measures and the perfect demeanor for NY. How could they pass on him? If it was really Gettleman's call he'll be to Jet fans what Bum Phillips was to Giant fans.

It’s not a rebuild. I agree. What it is though is a bad plan. Going all in on a declining Eli at 37 with holes all over the roster, and an OL so bad it wouldn’t be fixed in one offseason, is lunacy. Factoring in the schedule, this team has 5-6 wins written all over it in the first year of “going for it”. What do they do next? Cross their fingers Eli’s decline this year isn’t too bad that they can hang their hat on him at 38 in 2019?

You're absolutely right. This 2018 draft class was the last class that will ever feature a franchise-type QB. There will never be franchise QB's coming out of college ever again. The Giants have missed their shot. Its over.
For Gods sake...some of you people are so ridiculous... If the Giants like a QB next year or any year after that, they will do what they have to to get him. Stop with all the all or nothing, over-exaggerations.

I hear you, but you need more of a sample size to really claim this is a trend, rather than simply a first game with everyone playing together for pretty much the first time.
Remember that time the giants lost week 1 to good bills team in the jersey swamps? 1996. Week 1. We lost a close game. 6-10.
Time to start winning games!
possibly have . New Offensive system
New Defensive system like 26 or so new players on the roster
Complete management and coaching overhaul .
We went toe to toe with a Superbowl type team .
Take a chill pill panic mode after one game ??
