Rookie Head Coaches 0-7

Dnew15 : 9/11/2018 9:37 am
Goes to show how hard it is to install a new program with such limited off-season time.
After watching a lot of these games - some of these new coaches are in serious trouble - Patricia in Detroit was a disaster yesterday and Gruden in Oakland.
Some have some serious work to do like Wilks in AZ, Reich in Indy and Vrable in Tenn (losing your starting QB week one hurts a lot).
I think Nagy in Chicago and Shurmur in NY have a lot of good things going for them, but need to fine tune moving forward.
Chicago screwed the pooch.

Dropped INT, bad play selection et. Could of should of been a win.
So your saying we're not alone? ;)

I like Shurmurs demeanor so far but its early in his tenure. Have to see how his game calling goes, crisis management, and full season results turn out. I have not had a "why the hell is he wearing a huge suit" moment with Shurmur yet. That and a buck fifty will get you a cup of coffee.
Gruden and Shurmur

are not rookie head coaches.
I'm saying we're in better shape than most..

being a rookie head coach and losing to a top 5 team by 5 and being competitive with a shot to win is a game to build on.
Losing to the freakin Jets at home by what seems like a 100...that makes a rookie head coach's job even harder...
Fine..

Head coaches coaching new teams...my bad...
Good

All different things

You have a rookie HC that may not be good at all. You have a HC that's been on the shelf for ages. You have a team with new-to-them HC that have new schemes. But overall, the 0-7 is pretty glaring.

New head coaches.
It shows you
Mike from Ohio : 9/11/2018 10:13 am : link
that generally only bad teams have new head coaches, so most new head coaches probably lose more than they win.
For the most part...I agree
Dnew15 : 9/11/2018 10:22 am : link
but the Lions were 9-7 last year, the Cardinals were 8-8 and the Titans were a 9-7 playoff team... so just under half the new coaches were inheriting teams that had a record below .500 last year...just saying...
Rookie Starting QBs 1-0

.
I'm curious if a correlation
Diver_Down : 9/11/2018 11:22 am : link
can be drawn to the percent of roster turnover and the new schemes be installed. Obviously, we churned our roster, but I curious about the other teams as to what percent are new players to the respective team.
Teams have new HC because the team sucks!!!!

And a rebuilding process is underway.

0-7 means nothing.
BTW, coaches going to last year the Super Bowl last year were 2-0
JohnB : 9/11/2018 11:50 am : link
So if we want a fast start to the year, make sure we go to the Super Bowl the year before!

I wonder how they were

against the spread.

I will say that I am so glad the Giants didn't hire

Matt Patricia. It is only one game, but he is the one guy I wanted NYG to steer clear of. Was DC for one of the greatest defensive coaches in NFL history, and his defenses weren't very good. Even Pats fans I know were happy to see him go. The Lions looked completely overmatched. The Jets looked good, and I am certain they are better than last year, but they aren't THAT good.

Last season the new head coaches were 4-2.
Chicago

going shotgun/4 wide on 3rd and 1 in their 2nd last drive was such a McAdoovian call. Howard was running downhill all game.

The reality -- coaches in first game with new team went 0-7 -- is probably more telling. Installing a new system, turning over the roster, getting the players to buy in... all that stuff is tough to do in a single offseason.
