Lets talk Dallas

bLiTz 2k : 9/11/2018 12:50 pm
Huge divisional game against two 0-1 teams. We know the stage is set.

I was able to watch some of the DAL vs CAR game, but not all of it or in any detail, so I'm curious to hear what everyone thinks about how the Giants matchup with them early this season.

The forumla is pretty much set on defense - Stop the run, and Elliot and the defense has a chance to get to Prescott with some consistency.

Prescott's mobility worries me, especially after the loss in contain on Bortles last week..hopefully not a trend forming.

The other is who covers Beasley in the slot? I like Apple and Jenkins' matchups on the outside, but if its Webb vs Beasley, advantange Cowboys.

-

On offense, all eyes once again are on Flowers and how he bounces back. The Cowboy's best unit as of now is probably their front 7, and Lawrence has shown to be in the conversation of elite... Aside from that, I like our skill players vs their secondary, and the Cowboys are not the Jaguars in that regard.

Thoughts?

I feel if the Giants don't

give up 6 on Off or ST...we win...
Team is Not good enough to give up points...
Another very emotional game on Sunday Night Football.....

Division games are always tough and this will be no different. Neither team wants to lose a 2nd game. If our Oline can give Eli some time and the RBs some room to work, then I think we'll be in good shape. This could be another low scoring game, coming down to the final drive and a game winning FG?!
Hopefully
lecky : 9/11/2018 1:03 pm : link
Vernon will be back. Giants just need to take some of the attention away from Beckham. Someone else over the top for once. Have to feel the O-Line will improve from last game. Engram absolutely has to get involved.
I don't see this game
NDMedics : 9/11/2018 1:04 pm : link
as a low scoring affair,(at least not from the Giants) I watched the entire Dallas game and they were terrible on both sides of the ball. I think we can score 30 on them.

30? Whats that?
Not really worried about Dak"s passing
gmenatlarge : 9/11/2018 1:06 pm : link
running out of the pocket is a different scenario, after the Bortles scramble (which was a big play despite not leading to points). It just seems that running QB's always give the Giants trouble.
itd be a great game for
bLiTz 2k : 9/11/2018 1:06 pm : link
an offensive coming out party, thats for sure.
Dallas front seven is tough
Kevin(formerly Tiki4Six) : 9/11/2018 1:08 pm : link
And Lawrence is going to be tough to stop.

But I like our skill players vs their Secondary.

Just have to stop beating themselves.
If the OL
Danny L : 9/11/2018 1:18 pm : link
and especially the right side has issues again, it does not matter how many toys on offense you have if you cant get the ball to them

Flowers vs. Lawrence...

Good God.
The Giants have to give Flowers help.
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 9/11/2018 1:26 pm : link
It's not an option otherwise at this point. He will singlehandedly sink this offense. I'm not saying everyone else on the OL look hot on Sunday, but Flowers stood out like a sore thumb.
Please don't leave

Flowers on an island. That has strip sack all over it

True but they wont face a DL or another front 7 like that anytime soon.
Sure Houston and Bears will challenge them but nothing like Jags.
Giants D should be licking it's chops
Coach Red Beaulieu : 9/11/2018 1:40 pm : link
To roll over that O. It's very 1 dimensional, bordering on 0 dimensional.

Lots of 3 and outs and tire out the D.
Dallas' O Line looked almost as bad as ours vs. Carolina
johnnyb : 9/11/2018 1:54 pm : link
And Prescott showed his true colors as a passer. If we can force third and longs, we will be in good shape.

I am not sure Gregory will play against us- concussion and possible disciplinary action. We should be able to make some big plays against their secondary. we were very close vs. Jags.

I hope we score more than the three points we scored against Dallas last year (in Dallas).
Carolina has a terrific front 7,
Section331 : 9/11/2018 1:54 pm : link
but Dallas did have trouble moving the ball with any consistency. I thought they looked very good defensively, that unit has improved markedly since last year. They look much more athletic, and generate much better pressure.

With that said, I don't think Dallas is as good as Jax defensively. Their WR's aren't very good, so 8 in the box and dare Dak to beat us.
Dallas' OL is really compromised
BillT : 9/11/2018 2:03 pm : link
If the Panthers can hold them to 8 points that's a pretty sure sign things aren't well on Cowboyland. We did better than that against a far better D.

Their D is ok with some talent in the front 7 but they're not the Jags or even the Giants for that matter. The match ups look like they favor us most everywhere. All we have to do is win.
Dallas All-Pro Center Travis Frederick is out
Youtoo : 9/11/2018 2:18 pm : link
He has an auto immune disease. This kind of thing is really serious. Dallas still has 2 all pros on the line.

Dallas only ran the ball 15 times against Carolina. I expect to see a lot more Ezekiel Elliot behind their all pro linemen.

Dallas on paper has good pass rushers. It could be another long day for the Giants O-line.

Bottle up Elliot
PEEJ : 9/11/2018 2:21 pm : link
Cover Beasley on 3rd down.

Play clean game on O and ST
Front 7 strong but weaker than Jax, O is weak but stronger than Jax
Eric on Li : 9/11/2018 2:26 pm : link
the position that seems to be the biggest drop off from Jax is their secondary, which could spell big trouble for them with Beckham who was able to have his way against 1 of the best CB's in the league. If they put a lot of attention on Beckham then Shepard Barkley and Engram need to be able to win the 1 on 1's.

Being on the road makes it a little tougher, but Dallas generally seems a little more unsettled than us right now even though we have a new coach. Fredrick is a big loss. Their K is new and he missed a kick week 1. No more Witten and Dez so Cole Beasley led them in passing last week.

I think Shurmur and this offense will put up more points than last week. If the defense shows up I think it's a win.
3-14 since Sept 2017
Boy Cord : 9/11/2018 2:38 pm : link
Time to start winning and make it a habit.
A few thoughts
Sy'56 : 9/11/2018 2:58 pm : link
While I did predict DAL to go 6-10 this year, by no means is this a layup game.

While their offense did look atrocious on Sunday , by no means do I expect to see the same level on Sunday. They will be better, and they will be at home.

I think this is going to be a dogfight, old school type matchup. Really close game, a lot of running the ball, a lot of field position battle. This comes down to the turnover battle and avoiding the major penalties. NYG has the advantage because their passing game is loaded with weapons, but it won't matter if the NYG OL stands at their current level of play.

DAL will come out hungry in their home opener and their pass rush-DB duo is very solid. If NYG can avoid the turnover loss, I think they win a 19-17 type game.
By all rights..
FatMan in Charlotte : 9/11/2018 3:01 pm : link
it should be a low-scoring game, but there are times I've thought these games would be and then it becomes a shootout.

I won't be surprised to see several big plays and some sloppy D on both sides of the ball.
Pick 6s from both teams

He might be good against Beasley. Slippery waterbug of a receiver. I think DD could keep up with him in the slot.
I feel like a broken record after each week, but if the offensive line
barens : 9/11/2018 3:26 pm : link
can just play a little bit better, we'll be ok. The problem is, it hasn't been happening recently, and Dallas' defense has somehow become very good.

It's a major disadvantage, because their D-line will be able to get pressure on Eli and the run game, but will the Giants D be able to pressure Prescott?
Dallas has only one receiver, a TE and a RB

if we can't cover them we may as well toss the towel in
a couple of things about dallas defense
nygiants16 : 9/11/2018 3:38 pm : link
first off panthers were missing 2 or 3 starters on the offensive line...

second they qere missing thwir best receiver in olsen..

entire second half panthers basically jist dumped off to mccaffrey and just sat on the ball

They also held our offense to a grand total of 13 points in 2 games last year, and they made our offensive line look silly.
In Dallas on Sunday night? No chance the Giants win this one.

why does last year mean anything?

the giants 2 best offensive players they have this year theh did not have last year...
No reason why we shouldn't beat this team.

yup i was ok with loss sunday because i expexted it but this game should be a win..

prescott can not throw anything more than 20 yards, thwir center is hurt and starting a rookie at left guard...
If you want a season, this is a must win
The_Boss : 9/11/2018 4:16 pm : link
A loss and it's probably over. They're likely not beating Houston and New Orleans in either the 2 following weeks.

If this team is 0-4, yikes this will be ugly.
New Orleans..

just lost at home to TB and allowed 500 yards passing to Fitz.

If we beat Dallas, I'd be supremely disappointed if we aren't at least 2-2.

I disagree. Deayon is more of an instinctive player....its not like he is super quick twitch because hes small. He has instincts, a knack gor routes and good ball skills. None of those are what you need for Beasley.

Beasley should be covered by Apple honestly. You need an athlete who can press him and cover lots of ground quickly. Beasley runs what amount to optiin routes where his movements are unpredictable. Id put our best athlete on him and let Deayon cover a receiver who runs more traditional routes.

Expect the Cowboys to look way better at home
Dak has lost confidence and swagger he had in 2016
joe48 : 9/11/2018 7:56 pm : link
Dak is not a pocket passer. I expect him to roll out and run more. Beasley is his safety valve. I just don’t think Dak is an NFL starter. Stack the box and make Dak beat us. He does not throw deep. I think this a game we should win if we do not turn the ball over. We are no longer a one dimensional team.I expect Barkley and Beckham to have big games.
I think were the better team...
Bluesbreaker : 9/11/2018 8:36 pm : link
Expect a dogfight there home opener .
Turnovers must be avoid Lawrence worries me the most
He could force a strip sack or fumble gonna have to help
out whomever keeping him at bay .
Have to win in the redzone the FG game won't get it done
also special teams not giving up big returns .
