My major positive from Sunday

twostepgiants : 9/11/2018 7:27 pm
Odell Beckham was a monster. He is 100% back. He did it all. Possession receiver and home run threat. He had 11 catches for over 100 yds plus he drew 2 long pass interferences that he roasted his coverage and Eli missed him on 2 long tD passes that he torched his defenders.

He easily could have had a 13-15 catch day for over 200+ yards and 2-3 TDs with throws on the money and the Defenders not interfering.
On the Jags.

On Jalen Ramsey.

He was spectacular.

twostepgiants : 9/11/2018 7:31 pm : link
He drew 2 pass int for 45 yds which would have resulted in a TD

Eli missed a 33 yard TD

He had 11 for 111

That really should have been 14 rec for 189 yds and 2 TD

Thats the kind of day he really had
Gotta connect on the throws..

to really take advantage of his impact.

Yet we scored just 15 points and lost the game. Which is actually a major problem.
They were smart to foul him
mattlawson : 9/11/2018 7:37 pm : link
Their defense was good enough to not give away anything and make a settle for field-goal’s
The TD pass
gmenatlarge : 9/11/2018 7:38 pm : link
that everyone said Eli missed would have been a TD except for an IC from Church at the 10 yd line!
I'm tired of taking positives from losses

Eli played little in the PS and Odell didn't play at all.

That’s a novel idea. Send this to Eli and Shurmur

Yeah there was at least a minor bump there which caused the incompletion more than the throw.
For the people who are tired of taking positives from losses...
jamison884 : 9/11/2018 7:59 pm : link
Then take the positives about the first week in general.

The Redskins won, but they're perennially terrible, so prove over the full season and until then they're a non-factor.

The Cowboys sucked.

The Eagles didn't play well and barely came away with a win.

We need a few more weeks to see what this 2018 team really is, but if a few things go our way, we can be competitive this year.
I really really thought
cjac : 9/11/2018 8:00 pm : link
We were put 24 on them. And shut everyone up

I got arrogant eagle fans telling me we won’t win more than 6 because of our offensive line.

And they think our D sucks.

I have Jet fans telling me we should have taken Darnold

I just want the Giants to be good again. I’m fucking sick of this
My big positive was Saquon Barkley
JohnB : 9/11/2018 8:02 pm : link
after watching players like ki-jana carter, todd marinovich, blair thomas, tony mandarich, ryan leaf and a host of others highly touted players getting drafted high and being complete busts, we know Saquon Barkley is NOT a bust. He is the real deal. And that is great.

You don't know that after 1 game. The positive to take away was that he showed his potential, but the runs before that certainly didn't do him any favors.
Not to make up excuses for Eli ...
Bluesbreaker : 9/11/2018 8:18 pm : link
But we have had little real time football to not only
get this offense down but to also get there timing back .
The Biggest concern is still the O-line .
Somehow they have to get Flower's some help or find a replacement . I know next too impossible but They may have no choice but to make a move .Even if it takes giving up a pick.
Flowers is either going to play better or it's gonna be along season .

If you watch that play again, you’ll see the Eli didn’t miss Odell....Odell was bumped by the safety. It should have been a PI call

There were lots of positives.

Eli Apple looked really sharp, which was a pleasant surprise. BJ Hill looked strong.

Barkley had defenders in his face the moment he got the handoff on almost every single one of his runs. He scratched out over 100 yards anyway.

People won't listen to that, or watch it.
My major positive,
Big Blue '56 : 9/12/2018 7:12 am : link
no injuries. The rest will develop as previously opined
They couldn't run consistently
joeinpa : 9/12/2018 7:15 am : link
They couldn't pass block consistently, they had a pick 6 and they had the ball on the 40 yard line , 2 min left in game, a chance to win, and once again failed to deliver, a reoccurring theme for the past several years.

This was a home loss, setting up an 0-1 start with games at Dallas and Houston. It could get late early here.

With Terps, it s the friggen NFL, tired of looking for positives in losses.
There are no...

That said, JAX is probably perfectly happy with the results. As we've seen the past 2 years, teams can play us to let Odell get his yardage production but he's not game changing killing them like he did his first two seasons. That's not likely to happen until the running game or underneath stuff to Barkley forces their safeties up. That's not Barkley's fault, the Oline here remains the root of the problem.
Yep Uber. Exactly.
Jimmy Googs : 9/12/2018 8:28 am : link
And Jag players did the right thing and grab him when their secondary broke down to prevent any long scores.

Made Giants have to line up head-to-head in red zone, and sure enough with our shitty Oline it worked fine as we kicked FGs.

Victory Jacksonville...

The guy had 128 yards on 20 touches in his FIRST NFL game... all while nursing a hamstring. I will take that every week.

While missing all of preseason and going against a l33t D with numerous all pros and absolutely no weaknesses.

And Flowers.
Lots of positives
idiotsavant : 9/12/2018 1:16 pm : link
When the D and O -did- flash, made big plays, they were legitimate A list plays, not just desperation seat of your pants stuff.

The timely and quality pressure / pick int on D, some of the barkely, Beck's stuff...
Jesus you'd think we were 0-5 and just lost 48-17 to the Jets
BestFeature : 9/12/2018 1:41 pm : link
If you guys want to be miserable about a close game against a team that was an inch away from the SB last year I guess that's your prerogative. Saying there are no positives to take from a game like this is the definition of negativity.
OBJ is clearly the answer to this...
bw in dc : 9/12/2018 2:21 pm : link
as the major positive.

Off the major injury, playing against live fire for the first time in almost a year, and playing against a supposed reincarnation of Deion Sanders, OBJ was brilliant.

And it would have been better if Eli was more up to the task...

Yep, and until the OL gets it going so a consistent run game is established, the offense will still be stopped by basic zone looks.
