This is from one of the articles Defenderdawg posted. I was blown away by this quote:
"Obviously, you see it on tape," Campbell said. "But we didn't get to watch a lot of tape on him. It's his college tape. Coming into the NFL against a team like ours, and making some of the plays he made, that kid's going to be special.
"I traded jerseys with him after the game because I was like; 'Okay, if he can stay healthy, he might one day be a Hall of Famer. So now, I'll get his jersey when he's young." |
Not every day you hear an opposing player say a player playing his first game against his team might be a HOFer. I don't know enough about Campbell maybe he always makes these proclamations but on the surface, this is pretty impressive.

Once he gets a better feel for the speed of the NFL game watch out.
I was thinking the same thing.
Barkley's Neck Getting Twisted. - ( New Window )
"“That guy is a lot faster than I thought he was,” Jaguars safety Barry Church said."

If he lives up to the hype, Campbell just scored a valuable piece of memorabilia. Savvy veteran.

Unless he changed jerseys at halftime
As for Agent Barkley, it really jumps out at you the way Barkley supernaturally jukes and cuts in the Madden behind the back camera angles. That's what Jax players experience first hand.
Why can't you just stick to the topic instead of going off topic with negativity?
So this sort of rebuffs the 68 yards run was an outlier.
Again, really good debut.

I haven't seen a team be this good at mitigating big plays by taking penalties. I'm sure they're coached into this, happened at least 3 times. It's smart although frustrating as hell and kind of dirty.
We've been sorely missing a player like this in the backfield. It has been over 10 years since Barber was here and he was the last RB on this team that was even remotely comparable.

Very good point. Like an NBA team - well, when they really played basketball in the NBA - not allowing layups and making you get your point from the free throw line...

Some people on another board said that he didn't follow blockers and hesitated too much and that's why he didn't get the yards. I thought it was because he had no room. What did you think?
If we can sort out some measure of blocking, it is going to be fun watching him play.

He's really good. He's not just a hype guy. This dude is going to make big plays like we saw Sunday most weeks. It'll only be a matter of time before he breaks loose and does something like that in a lot of games.

Several carries he really had no shot - they were blown up right after he had the ball in his hands.
He doesn't have the same patience/vision that Lev Bell has quite yet, but I thought most of his carries that got stopped short were poor blocking more than him not following the blocks or him hesitating.
Barkley will have tons of "off script" runs just because of the skillset he has. There will be times where he bounces out of his running lane to find room outside or even reverses field altogether.
I thought it was a promising debut, though. The offense just feels so much different when there's actually a guy in the backfield for defense to legitimately worry about.
When was the last time we had anything close to this?

It likely happened on his hurdle play. As he was going to the ground the defender hits the back of Barkley's helmet with their helmet (not sure how that isn't a candidate for the new helmet rule).

chipped off? Reminded me of Bradshaw.

I thought so too, but rewound the clip further and saw that it happened somewhere before that.
