How much better do we feel if this time next week ...

Beezer : 9/12/2018 8:22 am
... we are celebrating any type of win against Dallas + a Jaguars victory over the Patriots (especially by 5 or more)?

The world looks a little different under those circumstances. And I have a pretty good feeling about it.

Just Week 2, but we get those two results and the sun will come out.

Of course, get smacked by the Cowboys and Brady and Gronk tag Jacksonville and ... when do the Knicks report for camp?

Must win!!! LET’S GO!!!

(Ramsey ramping things up to face Gronk. Getcher popcorn. Do you ever bet against Gronk in a matchup? Advantage: Sixty pounds, five inches and great hands.)
RE: Ramsey/Gronk matchup
Diver_Down : 9/12/2018 8:25 am : link
Go look at the stats. Ramsey owns Gronk. Gronk is a mismatch for anyone including Ramsey, but whether it is the trash talk or the technique, Ramsey has always negated Gronk's impact.
I'm not going to get caught up in the Ws and Ls week to week this year
UberAlias : 9/12/2018 8:28 am : link
If they make the playoffs, great. If they don't but show that we hired the right coach and have the key pieces in place towards building something special, especially with the young guys who should form that core, that's what's important to me.
What is really needed is a SOLID win...
x meadowlander : 9/12/2018 8:30 am : link
...not a nail biter that we were lucky to come out with the W.

Giant fans miss CONFIDENCE. Been a long time.

Huge game this week
ZogZerg : 9/12/2018 8:45 am : link
Eli needs to come though big time.

Even if Giants win, people on this board will still be complaining. That's what they like to do.

If the Giants lose, this board will be in melt down mode.
i think the giants matchup well vs dallas
BlackburnBalledOut : 9/12/2018 8:53 am : link
they should be able to put up points and contain Dallas' offense. If they contain the run Dallas doesnt have a chance.

as for NE vs jax i could care less who wins, should be a great game to watch but the winner is a moot point, personally.
For a "win now" team this is a must win situation
micky : 9/12/2018 9:01 am : link
considering how things taken place recently, esp last season

And cite the “teams that start off 0-2” stat that is meaningless, given it’s a new year, new staff and revamped squad. But it will be the prevalent feeling, yet it is one game at a time, the difficulty of schedule ONLY matters at the time you play them and though I would be upset with a loss to Dallas, my mindset is always the Parcells’ mindset of a marathon not a sprint

why would I care about who wins the Jax-NE game?

You can never say dallas doesn't have a chance when the giants routinely struggle to pass the 20 point barrier.
If we win that means we would have played toe-to-toe with
PatersonPlank : 9/12/2018 9:23 am : link
a team that was 1/2 a quarter away from the Super Bowl, and beaten a big division rival on the road. I'd say that is a good was\y to start the season, and shows that we are much improved.
That's the thing that gets me about all of this doom and gloom
gmen9892 : 9/12/2018 9:25 am : link
If the Jags go out and beat up on the Pats and make Brady look average or worse, does it change people's thoughts on how Eli and the offensive line performed last week? Do you THEN chalk it up to just facing one of the best fronts in football in a grind it out game that we lost on a tipped ball?
Dallas will commit to the run
mako J : 9/12/2018 9:27 am : link
Utilize Beasely(sp) in the slot and rely on Dak to extend possessions with his legs. At home, they'll perform better than they did in Carolina.

As always, specials and turnovers will determine the outcome.

If the Giants stay out of 1st or 2nd and 20's every damn possession, they should be able to move the ball. They must start scoring touchdowns when inside the 10.
Must win..

It will get late

Early ifGiants lose.

That Jacksonville game is a bad home loss there is no other way to spin it, IMO.

Down 5, ball onn Jags 40, 2+ min to go, Giants and Eli use to win those games, not so much anymore

I m not optimistic. The O line gets beat 1on1,Is that going to change?

Eli needs a clean pocket. We ve seen this regularly the past few years. Sunday was no different.

Beckham was open twice once he missed him and once he was unable to buy a split second against pressure and make the play.

Even the last play to Shepherd. Put the ball on his hands, I bet they get the PI

I m sure this will be categorized as Eli bashing, instead of what it is, an inconvenient truth. Eli needs a lot of help to win these days.

Where on this O line is that help coming from

They really need to give Flowers help against Lawrence, that matchup could be the difference in the game if Flowers' performance is what it was Sunday. Dallas has no chance of matching up with our receivers, and Barkley will likely go over 100 again. It's a matter of keeping Dak in the pocket, where we know he can't make all the throws, and even if he does, Cole Beasley is the biggest threat on the other end of those throws. I think the Giants win this one 21-13. I just can't see the Cowboys moving the ball consistently enough, and we have enough playmakers to take advantage of some of their deficiencies on defense.

I know it's tough to do, across the board, because every match-up is the same ... but I think it's somewhat natural to do the "they beat us by this much, and they beat the Patriots by THAT much" side-by-side to try to gauge what we are.

I'm not saying it's accurate, or right. Too many factors involved to really know. "Any given Sunday." But ... it's what we do sometimes.

I know this won't go over well with most, but the 2018 season is about progress and demonstrating the decisions were solid, and that the arrow is pointing up for 2019. It's a big picture season to launch the Shurmur/DG leadership plan.

and play as a team for these NY Football Giants during this game. I can't and hope they won't listen to any of the prognostications. Just give it your all and hope the coaches are prepared and call a good game as well.

Its Sunday night on national TV at Dallas. Not historically the Giants best stage/atmosphere....

I don't know that it's whining, though. It's pointing out that the approach you described (perfectly reasonable) is incongruous with the decision making.

These next few years are going to be defined by two decisions (both of which I think were mistaken cases of kicking the can down the road): not just drafting Barkley, but hiring Gettleman.

Who’s whining? It’s a dumb plan. Always was once it was evident. Go young most everywhere and have a QB on his last legs in free fall. Ok so this year is a wash. The whole plan comes down to one fucking year: 2019.

Theyll be a louder whine when eli leaves in not too distant future and are playing carousel journeymen qbs for awhile, that holds them back, ala dave brown era etc..and dont say theyll just move up to get their qb when it comes time..imo they missed their boat last draft and will be regretting it for sone time..

Not for some time. The draft class at QB is bad in 2019, but it gets better in 20 and 21. What bothers me more is as the roster gets better so will the record. Our draft slots get further away from those guys. So unless we want to be mired in mediocrity or a team with a solid roster who is perpetually “a QB away”, the FO is going to have to pay through the ass to move heaven and earth to go get the next guy.
We should feel better !
Bluesbreaker : 9/12/2018 5:20 pm : link
I think we bounce back with a win .
I think the offense gets on tract and the defense will limit
the Cowboys offense to throwing more than they want to.
I think we will force a turnover or two .
Cowboys O-line isn't the same with Frederick Out ...
Snacks is gonna create problems in the middle . Limit the run
and make Zak beat us ...
If the O line is like last year
joe48 : 9/12/2018 5:59 pm : link
Do not expect a 3-13 team to make it to the NFC championship game this year. If that is your expectation you will be disappointed. We are not an elite team and Eli’s best days are behind him. Hopefully, Barclay runs all over the Cowboys.
I am not going to fuck around
chopperhatch : 9/12/2018 6:17 pm : link
Arguing with the same crew...anybody who thinks that if JAX beats NE that it makes no difference is lying yo themselves.

When a previously bad team plays great against a very good opponent, there is absolutely positive messages to be taken from that. Practically everybody on this board viewed the final reg season game against the Pats and the way we played as a positive....a momentum builder for the playoffs. So did Coughlin, so did Strahan. People who say it makes no difference are defeatists just looking for a reason to stay miserable for longer because of our recent history.

But the fact is our O line, while definitely far from perfect, was light years better than last year against a better D than any we playerld last week. Not saying it is going to come together like the O line from '02 or '07, but it will almost certainly get more consistent. I thought Eli looked very good moving around the pocket. Barkley looks like a game breaker on any play. Beckham and Shep looked good. Engram did not show up.

If we beat the Cowboys at all, but especially if we go in and kick them right in the fucking teeth, it will be a very new narrative for this season. Itwill absolutely be moreso if Jax beats NE. You are totally full of shit if you are denying that.

I agree with both of you guys. I am expecting 8-8ish with some clear movement in the right direction. I never expected this to be a playoff team, so if they do make the playoffs, that will be a bonus.

I've seen this a number of times. Who the fuck is Barclay? Why is it so hard to spell such a simple name of a high profile Giant? It's Barkley.
