But I'm not going to let that cloud my judgment of what is actually happening.
Your sentiment captures perfectly what I think happens here, particularly this offseason. Reality is bent to fit a more pleasant narrative.
I think it's fair to be optimistic in the preseason because you really never know what is coming your way. Did anyone see either the 07 or 11 runs coming? When Strahan was holding out in 07, there was every logical reason in the world to believe the team was going to flame out and TC would be fired.
Of course, when the bullets start flying reality sets in. Too soon really, because we played one really good opponent and save for a few mistakes we could easily have won, but in a few weeks we'll have a pretty good idea what this team is capable of, and I'm afraid it's going to be more in line with Terps' vision than Britt's (and I hope I'm wrong).
RE: I want it to be fun as much as the next person Â

Exactly this. When there's a reason for optimism, I'll be optimistic. I haven't seen any yet.
And, since I know someone will mention Barkley's TD run - no, that's not enough. Aside from that run, he was 17-38. That's not an indictment of him, it's an indictment of the putrid OL.
Eli hasn’t lost us games, but it’s been a damn long time since he’s won us a game too.
I just had this conversation with a buddy yesterday. When was the last time Eli willed us to victory? Praying for 300 yards and 3 touchdowns this week.
I hope that Elliott desn't get to slurp his soup at all this week. Â
They need Dallas not to show up and I'm not speaking figuratively. I mean that Dallas would literally not have to show up and even if that happened I still think the game might be close.
When was the last time the Giants scored 30?
RE: In order for the Giants to win by a big number... Â
Was almost a decade ago, and I think this game is a must win, but I have no confidence in this team until proven otherwise. Giants are currently a team of losers who have built a culture of losing. They have to show otherwise until I have confidence going into any game.
This is especially true if it is jailbreak city again with the o line and they are teeing off on Eli and holding this team to one yard a carry. If that same song plays, prepare for O and two and another long losing season.
Cheers!
I think this is going to be an offensive coming out party for us.
This game is winnable, but I am not counting my chickens until the Giants start to play better consistently.
I think it's coming again.
I did, and that was a winnable game, just didn't happen.
But I fear the OP catches perfectly where this franchise is - stuck in the past.
If you feel like they're going to suck and lose every week, it's not fun. Why bother?
We've always played it conservatively, even when winning. I hope one day we'll have a team that steps on the throat of a team over and over again.

9-41? Not ideal, but I don't think that merits a "look what he did to the defense!!" The most damaging run by far was Bortles.

We looked like a functional team. We just couldn't get that big play when we needed it.
The Giants looked PUTRID Week 1 last year. It was very different.
I think we can and will beat Dallas Sunday.
We have to. It's our season. I really believe that - if we lose, this is just going to turn into another lost season. We have to win.
Why would you listen to those idiots?
When was the last time the Giants scored 30?
January 3, 2016, 35-30 loss to the Eagles.

and guess who the Eagles interim Head Coach was?!
