NFT: Cord Cutting Question: Any online option with all the MSGs?

Mike in Long Beach : 9/12/2018 5:05 pm
I'm trying to find a bare bones cable subscription--preferably a streaming service--that provides all of the MSG sports channels. This includes MSG, MSG+, and yes, MSG+2. 'Tis life being a fan of an unpopular team.

The closest I've seen is DirecTV Now. It has MSG and MSG+, but no MSG+2. Is there any provider that has all of them without making you buy an additional 280 channels you don't want? Lastly, if not, what alternatives would you recommend (besides not being an Islanders fan)?

Thanks!
I am trying to do the same thing

My plan is to get DirecTV Now, which has MSG. You can then access DirecTV Now through Apple TV, Amazon Fire stick, Roku, etc. However, I am curious to see if there are others that have other options they use.

Im thinking about Youtube TV or something like it. Anyone habe these?

and its....ok. We have the elite package and thats like 55/mo. With introductory rate internet, its like another 65 per. So I am saving roughly 50% from the top notch cable I had before.

All things equal, I wwould probably shave down my premium service and keep the cable with dvr. The whole streaming thing can be aggravating.
Does the MSG Go app work with DirecTV Now and, if so
baadbill : 9/12/2018 6:31 pm : link
does the app get the game regardless of what MSG feed is being used? Just a thought...
I use Directv Now

Pay $27 a month after my AT&T phone plan discount. I get MSG, YES Network, NFL Network, HBO, ESPN, and like 60 more channels. So far so good. Don’t really miss cable.
DirecTV Now or Fubo Are The Only Options
gntman : 9/12/2018 6:42 pm : link
For now, DirecTV now and Fubo are the only OTT (for Cord Cutter) options that carry MSG. DTVN carries MSG and MSG+ while Fubo adds MSG2 and MSG2+. It appears that DirecTV now does allow login to MSG Go. Please note that the major issue with Fubo for Sports Fans is the lack of any ABC or ESPN networks.

Our house burned down a couple weeks ago. The rental home the insurance company put us up in doesnt have cable running to it and its going to take some finagling to get directv hooked up. Being completely without live tv since aug 25 has confirmed what i suspected about just never feeling right without fool proof access to live tv.
My biggest issue with cable (Comcast) is that my bill just keeps
baadbill : 9/12/2018 8:40 pm : link
going up. I’ve cancelled and switched to DirecTV and two years later back to Comcast. I was at $104... then $124... and now I’m back to $160 a month for internet service plus 1 TV with zero HD and zero premium channels.

The monopoly bullshit is the cause. Open up the cable (like the government did with phone landlines) and we’ll see prices drop and service go way up. But we’re fucking stuck trying to cut the cord ... which is why Comcast wanted to kill net neutrality so they can throttle streaming to make it unacceptable. The Fortune 500 is run by 500 billionaire CEOs that are fucking Americans in the ass.
I have DTN
Knineteen : 9/12/2018 8:54 pm : link
and get MSG, MSG+ and YES even though I don't pay for any of them. Their apps are so piss-poor when it comes to triangulating location.

You'll be VERY hard pressed to find all the MSG channels outside of Optimum.
Even with Charter, MSG2 was only shown on an overflow sports channel and I was at the mercy of Charter as to what sporting event was shown on that overflow channel. And it was always in SD.

You can always stream the game via a desktop computer or the MSG app.

Nothing prevents competitors from entering the market. Verizon did in many markets with FIOS. But building out the cable infrastructure for entire towns/cities/counties is prohibitively expensive. It’s a huge investment for only a piece if the pie.

Now that the wireless companies are starting to roll out 5G, it will compete with cable.

Wow.. Fubo might be exactly what I'm looking for, thank you.

All you need for fox, NBC and CBS is a HD antenna. You can get one online for under $20.

Playstation Vue, YouTube TV, sling tv etc. all have free trials available. See which one you like best and go from there.
I had fubo and it was great great great for sports
Heisenberg : 9/13/2018 8:35 am : link
It's not as great for non sports. Ended up switching to DTVNow because of some of the channels it didn't have. And the FUBO app was really glitchy on the firetv. It may be much better now, however.

One additional benefit for me was that I was doing a standalone HBO sub and you can get that for cheaper by adding it to a DTV package.

DTVNow is pretty great, IMO. They also had a promotion where if you commit for a few months they send you a free 4k apple tv. That was pretty nice too.

With Amazon becoming a Trillion Dollar company just recently, I can see them trying to improve network infrastructure, to get away from being reliant on infrastructures provided by Comcast/Verizon etc.

I just switched to DTVNow. It is pretty good. They also have 3 of the 4 local stations in my area, so not too shabby either. The only one they don't have is Fox and the only time I watch that is for football, which I can watch using my DTVNow login on Fox Sports Go.
They keep adding stations.
Heisenberg : 9/13/2018 8:56 am : link
When I signed up, they had only NBC and Fox. Have since added local ABC and CBS.

I have YouTube TV, it's pretty good, but doesn't carry NFL Net, nor, oddly, NY channel 11 or PBS. I don't care about PBS (the wife does), but an occasional Met game is on 11, and I do miss NFL Net.

We dropped Optimum last month, and got a mailer from them offering 200 mbps broadband with full cable for $100/mo - less than half what we had been paying (with slower broadband). I am considering switching back.

Fubo is very solid. And they have a 7 day free trial. I use it and have never had an issue with performance. If your primary watch is sports, it's particularly great. The only flaw is that it doesn't currently carry ESPN, so you'd need to find another way to catch a Giants MNF game.

That's the game, unfortunately. Shop for bundle packages, and when the promotions expire, be willing to switch to a competitor. You may actually have to switch, then come back under a new promotion.

Thanks for the info on their steaming quality. Our internet is pretty solid so hopefully we’ll be good there. And I can either use the Reddit streams or go to a bar for those two Giants games as they’ll be the only times I’d even watch ESPN.

Quick question using the Jets game as an example... they play next Thursday on NFL Network. Would that network be available in the New York are or would it be subject to a blackout restriction on Fubo. And if it is subject to a blackout, what channel typically gets the local broadcast and does Fubo carry it.

Thanks again.

Yeah, it definitely is. That pricing, however, is valid for 2 years. The problem is that my development is not wired for Fios, so it's either Optimum or OTT services like YouTube TV.

Never negotiate with cable

Just drop them. You'll get a much better offer from them within the month. Charter took only 3 weeks to ask me back.

Thank you again for your recommendation. I'm still in shock there's a service other than traditional cable that offers MSG, MSG2, MSG+, and MSG+2. I started the 7-day trial today and so far the service is fabulous.

I've always said if a reliable sports streaming service ever emerged I'd be done with cable. This is going to save me over $750 bucks for the year if it continues to work as well as it has today.

Appreciate you helping out.
