NFT: Knicks prefer Kyrie to Durant?

DanMetroMan : 9/13/2018 1:31 pm

Boston reporter A. Sherrod Blakey of NBC Sports,

If true I guess it's time to give on the Knicks
Sounds like a statement
UConn4523 : 9/13/2018 1:36 pm : link
you make when you know you aren’t getting the better player.
Cool
Jim in Fairfax : 9/13/2018 1:36 pm : link
So, starting lineup of:

C: KP
PF: Kyrie
SF: Kyrie
SG: Kyrie
PG: Kyrie
Why would Kyrie leave Boston
BillT : 9/13/2018 1:37 pm : link
That’s the team he wanted to go to and they’re poised to be championship contenders for years to come. Am I missing something?
Uconn is 100% right, IMO.
Keith : 9/13/2018 1:38 pm : link
Kyrie is coming to the Knicks, I'm convinced of it. Knicks are playing the game.

I’ll blame Clyde when Durant doesn’t come here

That's not the team he wanted to go to.

Ok. So he’s going to leave a championship contender for the Knicks. Is that realistic. Honest question. Really don’t know.

He never wanted to go to Boston. He gave the Cavs a list of preferred trade destinations which listed 4 teams: Knicks, Spurs, Wolves and Heat
Celts
ryanmkeane : 9/13/2018 1:57 pm : link
were wise to re-sign Smart and perhaps they will re-sign Rozier after this season. Hell they nearly got to the Finals without Kyrie. Now adding Hayward...they could easily be a Finals contender in the next 3-4 years without Irving.

My read on Irving is that he wants $$$ and to be the guy. It's probably more important than contender. Kind of like a point guard version of Melo in that way.

Is it realistic? Yes. Does it make sense? I can't understand why. He's from the area though, so he obviously wants to play close to home.
Adding Kyrie without
Metnut : 9/13/2018 2:03 pm : link
giving up assets other than a max slot would be a coup for the Knicks. If Knox pans out and you add another lottery pick after you this year, that's a large part of a real contending corps.

An FA like Durant would seriously consider joining such a squad if he wanted to leave GS.
kyrie has always been rumored to want to play for the knicks
nygiants16 : 9/13/2018 2:08 pm : link
fizdale is very popular amongst players ariund the league...

kp if he comes back and shows hebbn is healthy is a player a lot of point guards would want to play with...

Knicks really are not far off, are they where the celtics are? not even close yet but the celtics might rather keep rozier cheaper than 32 million to irving
I agree with Uconn and Keith
adamg : 9/13/2018 2:13 pm : link
This sounds like they expect Kyrie to be the best player they have a shot at and they're letting him know they're willing to spend the money on him.
Idiotic, if true.
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 9/13/2018 2:15 pm : link
KD is a much superior player. Also, last time I looked, Kyrie's had a lot of lower body injuries. That scares the hell out of me.

Perhaps, as has been mentioned, the Knicks know KD isn't coming here & are trying to save face/lower expectations, but if they truly believe this, they're idiots.
Hopefully
Br00klyn : 9/13/2018 2:21 pm : link
this would be a game changer for the organization. Unless he takes a huge leap in year 2, Ntilikina is not a starting PG and it would be nice to get a good one to play next to KP and Knox

Don't see Kyrie leaving the Celtics
Deejboy : 9/13/2018 2:49 pm : link
They should make the finals this year and have a solid 3-4 year window for a title with Hayward and Kyrie. Never mind Tatum is a beast and Brown is at least an allstar level player. They will also probably get a #2-#4 lottery pick next year.
for a normal player/person,
Enzo : 9/13/2018 3:02 pm : link
it wouldn't make any sense to leave Boston. They have the winning tradition and a great owner/GM/coach combo. But Kryie is a bit of an odd duck. And, given Kyrie's injuries, do we know for sure Ainge is going to give him the full 5/190 or whatever it is? If not, that opens the door to other teams who are willing to max him - and there's sure to be plenty.
Kyrie

fractured is patella in the 2015 finals. He was basically fully recovered from that until recently when some of the screws in his knee from that surgery became infected. He needed surgery to remove the screws but the knee was found to be fine. So, I guess the larger concern is that he has already fractured his knee..I don't think the recent surgery is anything to be concerned about.

report, back in July Zach Lowe mentioned that Durant was their #1 target next summer. In other words, this is all a bunch of useless noise at this point.
I hope the patience continues
GMEN46 : 9/13/2018 4:09 pm : link
The old organization would have had Noah stretched on sept 1. The delay makes me think they are either trying to get Noah to eat more of contract in the buyout, still trying to trade him or plan on holding him through season and try to use him in a sign and trade next year. I know I sound crazy, but given that Knicks are in east, Young athletic and hungry, I can see them playing better than most are projecting. I would love the top 2 pick, but I don’t think it’s happening. I think they will have a strong second half and be picking 9-13 range.
Please no more guys with knee issues
xman : 9/13/2018 4:52 pm : link
Remember Amare Stoudemire. Or bad backs like Larry Johnson.
LOL
Keith : 9/13/2018 4:54 pm : link
so Kyries knee injury is the same as Amare who had microfracture. They are nothing alike.

This is funny. All of a sudden, the NY Knicks are a desirable FA destination? Hey, I’d love it if it were true, but I just don’t buy it. They’ve been a colossal dumpster fire for like 15 years. What makes it attractive? KP? Mills, Perry, Fisdale? JD and the Straight Shot?

The biggest things are
twostepgiants : 9/13/2018 6:20 pm : link
#1- Can Porzingas return and look his former self? (The better later in the season but not too early to give the Knicks too many wins)

#2- Can Knox display the kind of talent that he showed in the Summer League?

#3- Can Frank progress to being able to be a starter and show anything more than just a defensive talent?

#4- Does Fizdale seem like a competent NBA coach?

#5 - Can the Knicks land another top 10 pick if the answers to the above are positive?

If the Knicks can positively answer the above 5 questions then they will be able to attract a player like Kyrie or Durant.
I'll feel better
bceagle05 : 9/13/2018 6:30 pm : link
if Kyrie gets through a regular season and postseason unscathed. We need a sharpshooting two guard to kick Timmy to the sixth man role, and a guy who can get in the paint at will. Kyrie is obviously the latter.

Former self? You mean a player who can't stay on the floor? Porzingas needs to prove he can play a full season. He played 72 games his rookie season (only bc the Knicks babied him) and averaged 57 games the last two years.

he played 66 games in his secondnyear he they sat him for games at the end because the season was over...

last year was well on his way to 75 games before the freak injury..

he has had no injury to his feet and the acl injry by all accounts was just acl
Porzingas playing a full season is for another year
twostepgiants : 9/13/2018 7:03 pm : link
1- that cant be answered this year. He wont be ready to start the year and pushing him to increases the chances of injury and it makes zero sense

2- the Knicks need more talent. They need another lottery pick. Porzingas playing too many games hurts those chances. And for what? To have a chance to get swept as an 8 seed?

Let Porzingas return when he is fully 100%. Work him in slow build up. IMO about 20 games this year. Allow him to show the talent that had the whole NBA drooling. Dont pressure this guy to play to meaningless games. Get the lottery pick

If that happens, then in 2019/20 you can pressure him to play a full 82 games

Thats not the question for this year

Ha! I was taking it one step at a time.
bceagle05 : 9/13/2018 7:36 pm : link
I have this vision of Timmy surrounded by four All-Stars and still jacking up more shots than any of them.
I get that Durant and Porzingis together is somewhat redundant.
81_Great_Dane : 9/13/2018 7:40 pm : link
And I get that Kyrie Irving solves some problems for the Knicks that Durant doesn't, since they don't have an elite backcourt player, but seem to have some elite frontcourt talent.

Kyrie Irving makes me nervous, though. I think he wants to be THE GUY on a team, which is why he chafed in Cleveland. If Porzingis and/or Knox really turn out to be what we hope, Irving may still be the second guy. I'm not convinced he'll be good with that.
...
Keith : 9/14/2018 1:49 pm : link

The Knicks and Joakim Noah are expected to part ways before training camp, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Per Shams, New York has "continued to work trade calls, although waiving and stretching Noah's contract looms as a route." It is doubtful that the Knicks find a team willing to absorb the $37.8 million left on Noah's contract. Thus, New York will probably be forced to waive and stretch him. It will be interesting to see if Noah is willing to give any money back via a buyout. Earlier this week, Marc Stein of the New York Times reported the Wolves would not pursue Noah if he becomes available.

15 years ago means nothing. Golden state was a joke forever. Now they are the cat’s pajamas.

KP and Fizdale render 2003-2017 completely irrelevant.
What makes it attractive?

How about the fact that they play in NY? First off, the energy in MSG is legit. Not a lot of places like it. It's gotta be a lot of fun to play in MSG and in NY. You do realize that players don't just look at wins and losses when wanting to play somewhere, right?
