102 Pro Football HOF Nominees Announced

Rong5611 : 9/13/2018 2:43 pm
They need to pick a max of 5 of them for the hall, plus 3 senior nominees.

Giants on the list -

RB - Tiki Barber
TE - Mark Bavaro
LB - Carl Banks
P - Sean Landeta
HC - Dan Reeves

All 4 were great players. Reeves was a good coach (and a decent player). Do any make it on the Top 5 of this list? Probably not, IMO. Tough competition. Bavaro, if he stayed healthy, may have made it.

A few jump out as probable to me.

Tony Gonzalez
Darren Woodson
Ed Reed

HOF Nominees - ( New Window )
In my opinion

If you don't make the HOF in your first couple of looks then you are not a HOF player and should fall off the list.
6 Giants
EddieNYG : 9/13/2018 3:00 pm : link
P Jeff Feagles also on the list

Champ Bailey

Definately
Gonzalez/Reed should be locks
giants#1 : 9/13/2018 3:09 pm : link
I'd add Bailey as probably too.

Does anyone have a list showing how many years each player has been eligible? The OL has a bunch of candidates that I thought would've made it relatively early in their retirements: Boselli, Faneca, Hutchinson, Mawae.
Dan Reeves
Gman11 : 9/13/2018 3:12 pm : link
wasn't that great of a player. He was mostly a reserve. His playing career shouldn't enter into the decision. His coaching career should and I would not vote for him. He was a decent coach, but not HOF material.
Bavaro and Banks,
Big Blue '56 : 9/13/2018 3:17 pm : link
but Bavaro for sure, imo
My criteria for voting
Gman11 : 9/13/2018 3:18 pm : link
would be that a guy had to be dominant at his position and had to be considered one of the best at his position when he played. With that criteria I would vote Tiki Barber in. He ran back punts. He had 2000 total yard seasons. Yeah, he was one of the best in the early/mid 2000s.
Lots of interesting names...
bw in dc : 9/13/2018 3:28 pm : link
Out of the RBs, I'd say Barber, Watters (what a great player he was for about 6 years), and Edge. I know that all three would never get in simultaneously, but they are all HoF worthy.

There are some studs on those oline and DB lists. You can make a worthwhile case for almost all of them.

QB list is underwhelming.

Jimmy Johnson needs to be in. If the hugely overrated Tony Dungy is in then JJ should have his rightful place...

Gonzalez, Woodson, and Reed are locks.

Reeves should get in. A lifetime in football and lots of success at very high levels.

Barber should get in. From 2000 to 2006 he was an elite all purpose workhorse.

Dungy is laughable. Winning only 1 SB with that Colts team against Rex Grossman is underachieving. All he did was stand there while Manning, Tom Moore, and Bill Polian ran the franchise and made the real contributions to success. I've never seen a more passenger coach than Dungy
What’s the deal with George Young

ever getting in? That’s a travesty

guys like Bettis & TD get in, Tiki deserves serious consideration.

I agree. Everyone talks about how Tiki cut his career short and therefore probably won't get in. He played 10 years, how is that a "shortened" career for a RB? He averaged about 2000 yds from scrimmage per year over his last 8 seasons. Pretty impressive production IMO.
Tiki
PaulN : 9/13/2018 5:04 pm : link
Should be a lock, he was a great player.
I doubt
mattyblue : 9/13/2018 5:27 pm : link
Tiki will get in. He probably should be but I don’t see how he’ll make it
ottis anderson
Banks : 9/13/2018 5:48 pm : link
over any listed. When he retired he was top 10 in rush yards, yards from scrimmage, and rush tds
George Young ????
jjgmrg901 : 9/13/2018 5:52 pm : link
Until he gets in the HOF is not complete. He won two Super Bowls. He was the force that brought the Giants out from the garbage.
Wonder why the Mara's dont use their position and push for him

At this point, I'd settle for "serious consideration". He barely gets mentioned.
Champ Bailey over Darren Woodson
twostepgiants : 9/13/2018 6:28 pm : link
The Champ
12× Pro Bowl (2000–2007, 2009–2012)
3× First-team All-Pro (2004–2006)
2× Second-team All-Pro (2000, 2012)
NFL interceptions leader (2006)
NFL 2000s All-Decade Team

That’s the most ever pro bowls for a CB

He also had that amazing 100 yd INT on Brady in the playoffs that gave Brady his first ever playoff INT and first ever playoff loss.

Darren Woodson

3× Super Bowl champion
5× Pro Bowl (1994–1998)
4× First-team All-Pro (1994–1996, 1998)

Woodson was clearly great. But the Champ was better.
Another on the list who played for the Giants in Lomas Brown

Agreed
I think there are 4 guys that definitely
allstarjim : 9/14/2018 1:56 am : link
should be in from that list:

Ed Reed, Alan Faneca, Steve Hutchinson, and Tony Gonzalez. If I were to pick a 5th guy it's probably Steve Atwater...very deserving, a great career.

Darren Woodson falls a little short, IMO. I think Tiki also falls a little short. In fact, I think Ronde is at least as deserving as Tiki and maybe moreso. I would not argue the point if the voters inducted John Lynch, even though he's also a little borderline. Out of the RBs, Edgerrin James is far and away more deserving than the other candidates, IMO.
Only 3 players have accumulated 10,000 yards rushing/5,000 recieiving

Marcus Allen - HOF
Marshall Faulk - HOF
Tiki Barber - ???
If marv levy can mkae the HOF you should make room for Dan Reeves
weeg in the bronx : 9/14/2018 12:46 pm : link
Very comparable coaching careers. I'd give Reeves the advantage given the turnarounds he orchestrated with the Giants and Falcons.
192 Pro FB HOF
jmdvm : 9/15/2018 2:06 am : link
Odds are stacked against pure special teamers---Stenerud,,Andersen ,Guy are only 3 in. Nobis,Howley,Jordan are 3 LBs not in---how does Carl Banks stack up against them? Tom Flores won 2 SB as Raiders coach and gets no mention---how can one justify Dan Reeves? Bobby Beathard but no George Young? Floyd Little but no OJ Anderson? How about Phil Simms? Ken Anderson? Is Dave Duerson comparable to Darren Woodson. Bailey,Reed, Gonzales should be 1st year locks, but you never can tell. Faneca, Jacoby, Hutchinson---where's the love?
