NFT: Francesa’s yankee rant

Everything he said yesterday was spot on but not for nothing he defended the amount of wins they had when callers expressed the same problems he did in his rant lol. Classic Francesa

Its amazing how people just forget about Aaron Judge. People weren't saying this crap when he was playing. Take an MVP caliber player out of the lineup for 2 months and this is what happens. Look at the Astros when Alltuve was out. They were close to being out of the playoff picture.

Francessa mentions Judge, but only to point out his K's. If Judge didn't get hurt, he'd have 200 K's! That's ridiculous. You have a .280 hitter that hits 50 HR's a year and gets on base 40% of the time. You think the team would have been a little better off with Judge? Not to mention, the guy sees more pitches than anyone else which only tires out the pitcher for everyone else.

Aaron Judge is a perennial MVP candidate. That's why this team sucks right now. Nobody hated this team when we were winning 65% of our games so Francessa can STFU.
With and without Judge since fracturing his wrist:
Keith : 9/14/2018 9:41 am : link
With Judge
65-36 .643 winning %

Without Judge
25-20 .555 winning %

Judge is a big loss
BIG FRED 1973 : 9/14/2018 9:57 am : link
no doubt but there is still is enough guys on this team that should carry us till he comes back especially against alot of the bad teams we have played.Very frustrating
Fred, no doubt.
Keith : 9/14/2018 10:01 am : link
We still have a good enough team, however, it just shows how important Judge is to this team. He gets on base a ton, he sees a ton of pitches, he makes the whole offense go. He's also a really, really good RF which we have missed. I understand that we are underperfoming since he got hurt, but this rant is ridiculous. Was Francessa talking about how much he hates this team when Judge was playing and they were competing for the best record in baseball?

THis is what happens when you take an MVP off of a team. They putter.

and big lead in the wild card = not a helluva lot to play for. Home field in the play-in game doesn't get guys jacked. Add in the Judge injury and it seems like there's way too much hand-wringing over a team that's going to end up with 95-96 wins.

They have 90 wins and the 3rd best record in baseball.
Yup. Not a good team.
The real reason
PaulN : 9/14/2018 11:30 am : link
This team stinks is simple.

1- Gary Sanchez
2- Greg Bird
3- Sonny Boy Gray
4- Giancarlo Stanton
5- Brett Gardner

Now when you add into this equation the Aaron Judge injury and the Aroldis Chapman injury and the second half disappearance of Luis Severino. Then you start to come up with conclusions.

Not for nothing, but the sabrematricians maintain that a .280 average and a .377 babip for a guy who strikes out 31% of the time is not sustainable so Francesa's rant is not totally out of line. Not saying he's right because Judge did it last season, but Francesa is not exactly out on a limb in what he said.

So Judge sustained it last year and was on pace in the first half of this year and yet it's probably not sustainable? That's who he is as a hitter.

Some of these warning signs were popping up before Judge got hurt - so I'm not convinced getting him back is going to revert this team to what it was when they were on a tear.

That said, I do believe 99 is the heart of this lineup and that he's the guy who leaves the biggest void when he's out.

We need him back.
I understand that there were signs,
Keith : 9/14/2018 1:25 pm : link
but my overall point was more about Francessas rant. About how this team is so unenjoyable to watch and how we are the worst 90 win team ever and Judge strikes out so much. Nobody hated watching this team when Judge was playing and we were winning games. Judge is vital to everything this team does both offensively and defensively. He makes guys around him better and lifts the whole team up. We are unenjoyable to watch because Judge isn't in the lineup.
It's also a rant
Keith : 9/14/2018 1:26 pm : link
about how the game is changing and how the Yankees have chosen to build the team(high strikeout, high power guys).

I didn't hear the rant, so I don't really know what he was saying - I'm sure most of it was typical Francesa. He's probably just mad because he doesn't like what he's been seeing.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't getting pretty concerned with how lifeless this team has been looking - but I'm 100% going to wait and see how things play out when we get Judge (and Chappy) back because I think Judge especially will change a lot about the overall feel of the team when he's back in the lineup.

Playing a play-in in Oakland right now doesn't have me feeling confident, though. We need to get back on track.

The reality is that the Yankees
Keith : 9/14/2018 2:25 pm : link
are still a really young team. It isn't and shouldn't be about 2018. Judge, Torres, Andujar, Severino, Hicks(maybe), Didi(maybe), Sanchez......The Yankees are building towards something and these young players will learn a lot through the adversity. It's ok if they don't win this year. I don't think they are on the same level as Boston and Houston this year. Doesn't mean they can't get hot at the right time, but it's ok. We still have Sheffield, Frazier, Florial, etc...waiting in the wings. The Yankees are gonna be fine.

The way the team played for a while after getting out of the gates a bit slow probably created unrealistic expectations - I also don't think the Yanks are quite on the same level as BOS/HOU - and it's fine if they don't win the WS this year.

It just seems like they're playing at a level now that is below where they should be. Even if all of the above is true.

Getting beat by too many bad teams and crappy pitchers. Too many nights where the lineup can't do anything.

We'll need to get the rotation some help whether it's from within or not this winter - I do think we're probably a year away still. But the Yanks should be better than the A's right now - as currently constructed. They're just not playing that way and have looked asleep for the better part of the last couple months.

That said - the Yanks still trail only Boston in runs scored in the majors as of right now. I think sometimes the struggles get really, really exaggerated.

We still have a top 5 MLB offense right now. Even with all of the struggles and injuries. And up until recently, we had a good chance of breaking the MLB record for HR's in a single season by a team. The pace is probably below the record now, but it's not like the offense has been non-existent all year.

It's just tough when Stanton is ice cold, Judge is out of the lineup, and Sanchez is having the type of issues he's been having on top of being in and out of the lineup.

Can't expect the 2 rooks to carry the team although they are certainly doing their best.

Future is bright. Really not that worried - just wish we'd show some signs of life down the stretch here. No WS isn't the end of the world, but I want a shot at the Red Sox in a DS. If we lose, so be it.
they haven't fielded their regular lineup since, what, June?
Greg from LI : 9/14/2018 2:44 pm : link
Judge, Sanchez, Torres, Gregorious have all missed significant time in the second half. Hard to excel under those circumstances. Some people just live to cry and whine.

Exactly. Tons of injuries in the 2nd half which is why they've faultered a bit. Fans need to have a long term vision with this team, there is a lot of young talent on this team.

Lay off the meds and save f word for your mother. Don't tell someone to f off like a wanabee tough guy when you are just a keyboard warrior. I AM a Yankees fan which shows you how clueless and dumb you are. If you haven't been paying attention a lot of Yankee fans have been acting like wackos the past few couple months and have lost their minds over the team. It's not just a few and idiots like Francesa whining about a 90 win team on September 14th only adds to that.
if you accept that
Bill2 : 9/15/2018 11:00 am : link
Judge has even 5% of his strikeouts on bad calls ( and data does support that) then the apparent data inconsistency goes completely away.

Then a 280 average and a 377babib and a 26% strikeout rate all fits in sabermatrician heaven.
