Jenkins back, no Vernon

BigBlue4You09 : 9/14/2018 11:14 am
Janoris Jenkins is back at practice with #Giants today after leaving yesterday’s due to a “family situation.” Don’t see Olivier Vernon (ankle). Would expect him to miss a second straight game. LB Tae Davis (hammy) and RB Wayne Gallman (knee) are out here so we’ll see on them.
Too bad about OV.....

Thought he was going to have a monster year.....but another injury seals it for me....this will be his last season as a Giant...
Vernon

Has a high ankle sprain, there is no way he is playing, it is a great opportunity for Carter, for a first game he held up just fine, I like Vernon, but we should win without him.

The guy got rolled up on. How the hell is that his fault? It's not like he wanted to get injured.

I'm not sure why this matters. He came into the season a bit injury prone(as a NYG) and he got hurt again. Some guys are just more injury prone than others. HIs contract was designed to give us an out after this season and if he once again battles injuries this season, it won't be a hard decision. He's very talented, but we are paying him huge money and need him 100% and on the field.

That being said, if he comes back by week 4 and dominates the rest of the season and doesn't get hurt again, we may not let him go.
Shurmur indicated Vernon was having great progress on his

recovery a week ago so probably a bit too optimistic as not an easy injury to overcome.

Nevertheless, next man up again as Dak has some decent wheels and someone has to keep his scrambling in check...

I never expected Vernon this week. Next week is probably more of a possibility but I'd say Week 4 would be a safer guess.

Glad Jenkins is back. We need him.

but he's proven to be injury prone. Grant it, he plays through it alot. Was last year he had the ankle also?
And the year before he played with a broken hand?

OV needs to be at or close to 100% before coming back
gmen9892 : 9/14/2018 12:20 pm : link
The absolute worst thing he can do is come back early and reinjure that ankle and cost himself half or most of the season. The Giants will need him more against the Texans and Saints than they do against the Cowboys.
Just for hahas

How many think OV will be on the roster next season?
.
arcarsenal : 9/14/2018 12:37 pm : link
Cutting him after this year saves like 11.5 M, but it also creates 8M+ in dead money.

I would bet that barring a big time year, he will not be back next year. But I don't know that it's a foregone conclusion. It'll depend on when he comes back and how many games he plays in (and how he performs in those games)
Jenkins has character and grit...
Dry Lightning : 9/14/2018 12:44 pm : link
Vernon is the lowest character Giant ever.
Arc,
Doomster : 9/14/2018 12:45 pm : link
that's why I think he will be cut, if he has another year hampered by injuries....

We can save 11.5M over the next two years, or if you want him off the books(like JPP), you take the 8M hit and save only 3.5M next year......

I actually like the guy, but another injury riddled year would be too much to take a chance on him next year....

Guarantee that post saying Vernon is low character has to do with the anthem.

especially since he had never missed a game in his 5 year Dolphins career, but man. Seems like he always has an issue/injury/banged up to deal with since signing here.

is talking about OV's injury, and I'm over here thinking "Jenkins was taking care of "family issues"?"

When it comes to Jenkins' family this year, that could mean anything.

Super hard worker but another Reese reaction to try and make up for his shitty drafts.

Maybe he stays but over paid since he’s hurt and banged up even when he plays most of the time.

Most likely. And even though I don’t agree w his stance it doesn’t mean he has anything wrong w his character. Never mind saying that w guys like Ingram Megett and that DL(Parker) who was complicit in a child abuse death if I recall it’s just beyond silly to even post.

We've been bad for almost 7 years in a row, we have no idea if the organization just made one of its biggest blunders ever by not taking a quarterback, we don't know for certain if our own quarterback can still lead us to a championship and oh yeah...our offensive line still looks pretty mediocre. Pessimism or viewing our situation for what it is? I think fans have every right to have lost some confidence in the organization.

Ding, ding, ding....we have a winner. High ankle sprain, 4-6 weeks.
Bortles is not known for carrying the team as a passer....
Doomster : 9/15/2018 8:12 am : link
He is a game manager.....OV will be needed to create pressure against passing qb's, starting week 3.....

If he is out for 4 weeks the season is over, as far as making the playoffs....

He should not come back until he is ready to contribute.....he did not miss any games in 2016, but you could see he was hampered with a bad hand.....his game is speed, and playing on a bad ankle is not an option...
Dont worry
XBRONX : 9/15/2018 10:17 am : link

4-6 weeks from the injury which was August 26.
