A breakdown here of some of Pat Shurmur's play calls from Week 1. I really like how he mixes personnel and formations and is not afraid to take deep shots at any time regardless of down and distance.
All-22 breakdown of Pat Shurmur's offensive scheme and play calls in Week 1 - (

Shurmur is going to get these guys in positions to make a lot of plays. It's on the players to not leave them on the field. Unfortunately, that's what happened against JAX. The plays we missed could have been the difference.
I am very, very confident in this coach and what he brings to the table offensively. We are not going to see the same hapless offense we saw last year (and at points in 2016). Once this train gets rolling, I think we'll have a pretty good O.
It has to start Sunday, though. We can't afford to start 0-2 if we want this season to mean anything.
Barkley was hit on something like 50% of his carries at or behind the LOS (according to one article).
Honestly our whole season depends on our OL starting to gel and play competently.

Not saying these 2 are equal in any way but David Wilson was almost always hit in the backfield. Thought I saw Barkley dance around to find a hole about 3 times. He was tackled for a loss. He could have just plowed through the mess straight ahead and had 2-3 yards. Barkley will learn. I think Barkley is used to having a week Oline.
Yes, because Shurmur adapts to who his players are, instead of trying to shoehorn them into the same system and then trying to throw them out when they don't fit the system like certain coaches....

Our OL sucked from the first play of the game. With that craziness Eli was still something like 10/10 to start the game.

I always wonder where the line is between praising a back for his patience like Bell and criticising Barkley for dancing around trying to find a hole. Is it success? Or am I missing something?
