Hankins got 10 million. Reese was smart to let him go. Giants could have had him back this year at 2 million--if they had the cap space. So, really, if anyone messed up, it's DG by signing guys like Stew and not leaving himself adequate cap space to pick up vets who fill holes.

Letting him walk for the money the Colts signed him for was a good decision. Letting Linval Joseph walk for his contract was a huge mistake especially since Reese used the cap room to sign aging vets Beason and Cullen Jenkins for nearly the same amount that Joseph got.
I would have canned my agent. He didn't do him any favors. He could have signed a little bit more reasonable contract last year, instead of holding out for a kings ransom.
He effectively oversold and under delivered. If he signed at a lower number he would probably be making more this year, and maybe wouldn't have been cut.

The Raiders gave DTs Jonathan Hankins $370K to sign a 1-year, $2M deal (max $3M with incentives) and Clifton McDonald $120K on a 1-year, $1.75M deal (max $2M). Besides Martavis Bryant, almost every other veteran deal signed the past week across NFL was for the minimum.
That except for the signing bonus, Hankins is on a per game salary. I thought after the first week no salaries are guaranteed. Therefore he could be cut during season and the Raiders only pay him on a prorated basis for the games he is on the roster.

Not quite. Jenkins signed for 3 years at 9 million in 2013 and then Reese gave Beason a 3 year deal worth 20 million after he played well for us in 2013. He then got hurt and had to retire.
Plus, Joseph wasn’t the player he was with the Vikings when he was with the Giants.

Beason's contract was frontloaded and IIRC his cap hit was over 5 million that season. Joseph wasn't as good then but he was a young talented player entering his prime.

Hankins’ play was never an issue.

Never stepped up after the 2014 season.

He wanted a lot of money and he wasn't a top tier DT. He was average player at best outside 2014.
