Im usually not the type to suggest signing big name players but Gordon is a different story. This is an elite talent with substance abuse problems. Going to a stable organization like the Giants could be just what he needs. Dallas will surely go hard for him which is another reason to bring him in. The Giants want to win another championship with Eli so giving him a weapon like Gordon will certainly help.
a straight free agent now? If so, some team is gonna take a chance a give him some money I would think.
I don't know if all his suspensions allowed him to accrue the years of service that allows him to be a free agent instead of passing through waivers. At a minimum to be eligible for free agency a player must accrue 4 years of service.
On Josh Gordon: He was late today to the facility, source said. In addition, he was fine at Fridays practice, then injured his hamstring. The question of how is part of the reason they released him. My understanding is its an overall trust issue for a player on thin ice.

All true. But this type of personality being around the temptations of NYC seems very risky...
Depending on what is up wih him Id at least bring him in and check him out. Keeping him away from Dallas definetly Needs to be considered
I think he has too many years in for waiver wire so he should be a FA
The problem is the time while suspended doesn't count as accruing a year of service towards FA. I don't know how long he has been suspended off/on over the past 6 years.

That's a good point. Will have to see how it plays out.
Report coming out that he didnt seem like himself today
Who is clamoring for bringing him in? I certainly am not. I'm just curious regarding his status as a FA or subject to waivers.
Between the two threads theres more than a couple posts about kicking the tires and taking a shot on him.
My comments are general statements too. Hes a talented player who needs to spend his time getting better off the field. I wish him well but want nothing to do with him on the Giants.
even if he ends up with the Cowboys it won't save their season because I get the feeling they are going to be a bad team. Plus, we get the Cowboys tomorrow so zero effect and then we get them at home later in the year. If Dallas wants him, they could have him
secondly, I think this may open up the door for Dez Bryant to be back in the NFL with the Browns.
Physically, he's as talented as any WR in the league. But the kid can't keep his head straight (never mind the injury stuff). A team will take a chance on him, but I don't think he'll ever keep out of trouble.
Though I admit I thought that the Browns would cut bait with Antonio Callaway before Josh Gordon.

Well if he's an RFA next year, I believe he's just like a guy in his 3rd year and likely will go thru waivers, IMO.
I just looked up his contract on Spotrac out of curiosity. He served 2 full year suspension and an additional 4 game suspension in another season. What a trainwreck. I do believe he doesn't have the full 4 years of accrued service and will be subject to waivers.
Some team will take a shot on him. You can't teach speed. Unfortunately, he will likely relapse with his substance abuse. I trust DG, Mara, and Tisch would not entertain taking such a risk. Gordon's next infraction I believe is a permanent ban.
brought him in, it would be the polar opposite of what DG has done so far.
These are the type of guys you take a chance on IMO. He's young and probably a top 3 talent at WR. Just don't lock him in to a long term deal. Try to win for a year or two with him and then move on. Barkley, Odell, Gordon, Shepard & Engram is ridiculous.
Drafted him in Cleveland. I wonder if he'd go after him in NY. We can hope and pray!!
If we hope and pray for a guy that can't stay on the field the past 3 years, God will probably just tell us 'haven't you had enough of those guys already?'

He will be a free agent. Not subject to waivers per Joel Corry.

Yes Gordon would surely excel in NYC where there are no temptations for regression.
He hasn't failed a test but the absence at the start of TC and the "I pulled a hammy at a promo shoot" add up to something. He's bullshitting. The Browns have resources and they're close to him, they wouldn't be pulling the trigger now unless they knew something. I wouldn't touch him and I'd be legitimately surprised if he ends up anywhere but Dallas.

Hes young ? Hes 28 and he hasnt been able to stay clean since 2014

Exactly. Fer Chrissakes if he's like that in Cleveland what the heck would folks expect to happen in NYC?
The new team will get his existing contract salary and use that as a Try before Buy scenario. Giving up a 7th is better than nothing. And it also lets the Browns off the hook for his salary. Apparently despite the years of suspensions, he has the bare minimum requirement to be a vested veteran. As such a veteran is entitled to collect the year's salary as termination pay (once in their career).
trying to weed players with bad attitudes off the team. Why is it you think they should now add a guy who is essentially being let go because of his attitude and his problems?
Let Dallas or Cincinnatti have him. He has world's of talent, but this is not the kind of guy who turns a team around for the better.

Crazy news
he was late friday and browns are questioning his injury

This isnt madden, dependability and attitude matters.
Disagree, someone will give him a chance

Gordon seems like a prime target for the Bengals.

Not doubting you but that's odd. A player needs a minimum of 6 games to accrue a season credit. Gordon only has 2 of them.

Not if hes traded which it sounds like he will be

But a player signed during the season, their contract isn't guaranteed? Seems like a low risk, high reward if you brought him in for a season. IMO

That's true and a smart move by CLE if they are looking to move on.

Teams already calling the Browns, who league sources believe are far more likely to trade Josh Gordon than release him.
