Since Hurricane Sandy...

Mr. Bungle : 9/17/2018 12:03 am
For whatever reason(s), it seemed like Hurricane Sandy in 2012 marked the beginning of the end of the Coughlin Era, in terms of the Giants being a contending franchise under his watch. They were defending champs, off to a 6-2 start and looking good...then the hurricane hit the NY/NJ area, and the Giants' season afterward spiraled out of control, whether it had anything to do with Sandy or not.

There have been 90 regular season games now since Sandy (and, sadly, just one playoff game). These numbers are really alarming:

* 36-54 regular season record
* 0-1 postseason record (as a wildcard)
* 2 head coaches fired

This franchise appears lost. The Giants get a lot of pub as a great, stable, "gold standard" NFL organization. I know that part of that is due to how they take care of their players and employees and what-not, and another part is its long, storied history.

But regarding them as a competitive, fan-facing product, outside of that 9-2 finish in 2016, we've been watching losing football for nearly 6 years.

That's a bad place to be in today's NFL, with parity and all the "worst-to-first"-type turnaround. And it's even worse to still look lost with a new GM and new head coach.

36-54. Sheesh.
Eli is closing in (fast) on a career winning % of .500

He might go sub .500 I think if this thing totally crashes and burns. I’ll go back and check the numbers.
Paralyzed by the past..

the Giants need to hire a GM with no prior ties to the franchise and have a fresh set of eyes remake this roster.

Something Gettleman said repeatedly which is very alarming, “I have 2 rings on my finger because of Eli.” Not exactly objective.
Frightening

that the Giants front office, ownership, and coaching staff were all in win now mode in the off-season.

Anyone who legitimately thought this team was ready to win this season has no idea what the hell they are watching.

It's a bad football team in a lot of ways. They have a very good RB, a great WR, and a talented TE.

Besides that, it's a complete dumpster fire. It's not Eli's fault, but he also quite simply looks finished. Anything physically he has left int he tank is negated by the fact that he is clearly scared and gunshy playing behind this offensive line. Hard to blame him there.

How quickly the Giants can find a franchise QB will determine how long they suck for. It doesn't appear that their is any real plan in place for the future either.

I fear a decade of the Kent Graham's, Dave Browns, and Danny Kannels coming

In regular season he’s 111-105. If we go 3-11 (or worse) the remaining 14 games his career regular season winning % is sub .500. 4-10 is .500 exactly. Wow.

Also more damning is Eli is below .500 vs our 2 closest rivals: Dallas and Philadelphia.
What else has changed since Hurricane Sandy?

Here's a hint - 2011 was when the new CBA went into effect. The new CBA seriously limited practice time and contact from prior years.

Since then, the advent of spread offenses at the CFB level has yielded fewer premium OL. Combine that with less practice time, and OL play around the league has gone on the decline, not just on the Giants.
Say what you want about this organization

but they've averaged a Super Bowl appearance every 6 1/2 years since 1986. That's a total of 5 in which they've won four. How many other organizations can make this claim? I trust ownership and this new staff. It may be rough for a while but things will get better. I did not feel this way with MAC!!

Interesting. Never knew that. Damn shame the ol he’s had since 2011...

Yes. Thank you. Not just the Giants but OL play across the league is terrible. Our QB just cant handle it
